[0002] In a wireless communication system or network, for example in a 3GPP network, one or more terminal devices, like a user device or a user equipment, UE, are operated. A terminal device is connected via a radio or wireless connection with a radio access network, RAN, for example with a base station. The RAN, in turn, is connected to the core network, CN, implementing in one or more network entities respective core network functions for controlling the operation of the overall network, like the protocols, network interfaces and services.

[0003] The different 3GPP versions define different frameworks for the communication networks. For example, in 6G, different PUSCH / PDSCH transmissions and / or different BWPs may be using different numerologies. This might have an impact on spectral efficiency.

[0004] It is the need to provide a concept to enhance spectral efficiency for different situations.Summary

[0005] The present disclosure provides embodiments described in the following.

[0006] According to embodiments, a method for configuring bandwidth parts, BWPs, being defined by a BWP configuration, may have: operating with a bandwidth part, BWP, in accordance with the frequency grid and the BWP configuration and a shift parameter.

[0007] According to an embodiment, in the method, the shift parameter adapts one of the BWPs so as to obtain a frequency domain allocation BWP.

[0008] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter represents an offset; and / or the shift parameter represents an offset for offsetting at least one of the BWPs so as to obtain a BWP frequency domain location of the BWP.

[0009] According to an embodiment, in accordance with the shift parameter or offset defined by the shift parameter, a starting frequency of the BWP is set.

[0010] According to an embodiment, the BWP is allocated with its PRBs not being aligned with the common reference point A or common starting frequency.

[0011] According to an embodiment, the starting frequency is determined based on the following formula: f_BWP_start = f_point A + (2^μ) * ( (N+k) *SCS) kHz*n, wherein μ, e.g., 0, 1, 2, 3, is depending on a used specific carrier, SCS, e.g., 15 kHz, 30  kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, where N is the number of subcarriers per PRB, e.g. N = 12, and SCS describing the subcarrier spacing, e.g. SCS = 15, 30, 60, etc., and where k indicates a finer offset when compared to a predefined guard band.

[0012] According to an embodiment, the method comprises receiving the shift parameter or an information element, like a BWP information element, comprising shift parameter, e.g. at a user equipment, UE.

[0013] According to an embodiment, the method comprises transmitting the shift parameteror an information element, like a BWP information element, comprising shift parameter, e.g. from a network entity.

[0014] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as entry of a BWP configuration; or the shift parameter is defined as a BWP information element.

[0015] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as an integer, e.g., between 0 to 11.

[0016] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as a bitstring.

[0017] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter defines a modification of the location and bandwidth of the BWP; and / or wherein the shift parameter defines a modification of location and bandwidth of the BWP; wherein a starting frequency is determined based on said modification.

[0018] According to an embodiment, the shift parameter defines a offset modifying location and bandwidth of the BWP; wherein the offset enables to capture a range so as to include BWP offsets deviating from the frequency grid; and / or wherein the shift parameter facilitates to place the BWP on a frequency grid with an granularity smaller than the bandwidth of the PRBs associated with the BWPs.

[0019] According to another embodiment, the shift parameter adapts the frequency grid to be used for the BWP.

[0020] According to another embodiment, an offset to a carrier is different for different BWPs or different for different specific carriers, SCSs.

[0021] According to another embodiment, the shift parameter provides an offset, e.g., an offset to a carrier, to be used to shift the frequency grid for the BWP or to be used for the BWP.

[0022] According to another embodiment, the offset shifts the frequency grid for the BWP.

[0023] According to another embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as an entry of the BWP configuration; or wherein the shift parameter is defined as an information element.

[0024] According to another embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as an integer, e.g., in a range between 0 to 11.

[0025] According to another embodiment, the shift parameter is defined as a bitstring.

[0026] According to another embodiment, the method further comprises signaling the shift parameter, e.g. within an information element to be transmitted.

[0027] Still another embodiment may have a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause any of the above methods to be performed by a user equipment of the wireless communication network or by a network entity of the wireless communication network.

[0028] A further embodiment may have a user equipment, UE, of the wireless communication network, wherein the UE is configured to implement the method of any one of the methods mentioned above.

[0029] A further embodiment may have a user equipment, UE, of a wireless communication network, wherein the UE is configured to operate with a bandwidth part, BWP, in accordance to a frequency grid, especially a physical resource block grid, PRB grid, and a BWP configuration and a shift parameter so as to configure bandwidth parts, BWPs, of the frequency grid, in a wireless communication network, the BWPs being defined by the BWP configuration.

[0030] According to another embodiment, the UE is configured for receiving the shift parameter or an information element, like a BWP information element, comprising shift parameter.

[0031] Another embodiment may have a network entity of the wireless communication network, wherein the network entity is configured to implement any one of the above methods.

[0045] It is noted that the communication system described with reference to Fig. 1 is one example for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. However, the present disclosure is not limited to the communication system described with reference to Fig. 1. As is known by those skilled in the art, with the evolution of system architecture and with emerging new business scenarios, the technical solutions provided in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure are also applicable for such new system architecture and new business scenarios.

[0046] In 6G, different PUSCH / PDSCH transmission and / or different BWPs may use different numerologies. This disclosure aims to enhance the spectral efficiency for this situation. As disclosed by Fig. 2, there is lots of spectral efficiency due to guard bands. It was brought up to the guard bands should be reduced, e.g., in 6G. Background thereof is that too much guard band is used before DL-BWPs and UL-BWPs.

[0047] In 5G, different bandwidth parts can be configured with different sub-carrier spacing and / or with different cyclic prefixes (CP) , which both introduce inter carrier interference (ICI) . The size of the guard band depends on the required SINR in the victim BWP, which also is influenced by the power levels of both the aggressor and victim BWP. This is illustrated by Fig. 3. Figure 3 applies for the example that different SCS is used in different BWPs, but is equally applicable when other parts of the numerology (e.g. cyclic prefic) are different in adjacent BWPs.

[0048] Fig. 3 shows the aggressive BWP marked by the reference numeral 310 adjacent to the victim BWT marked by the reference numeral 320. The guard band is marked by the reference numeral 330.

[0049] From the example above it can be concluded that the size of the guard band GB 330 is variable and depends on the specific characteristics of the two BWPs 310 and 320.

[0050] In NR, all BWPs regardless their SCS are aligned with point A. The reason was that frequency alignment with the 15 kHz raster from LTE was desired to facilitate dynamic spectrum sharing with 4G, in particular with the always-on CRS transmitted by LTE. This is illustrated for the example of one BWP with 30 kHz SCS and another BWP with 60 kHz by Fig. 4. Since the two BWPs utilize different SCS, they cannot be put directly adjacent to each other.

[0051] Fig. 4 shows two examples in a frequency diagram. In example 1, two BWP portions marked with the reference numerals 410 and 420 are arranged. Example 2 comprises the two BWP portions 411 and 421. The BWP portions 410 and 411 are arranged in a PRBs grid 30 kHz, wherein 420 and 421 are arranged in a PRBs grid at 60 kHz. Both frequency rasters for PRBs at 60 kHz and PRBs at 30 kHz are illustrated to be aligned with Point a. Optionally, there might be an offset to carrier as illustrated by the arrow 425. Starting from this offset the start positions for BWP 410 and 420 as well as 411 and 421 is set. Note the BWP (to be determined) may be determined using RBstart describing an offset to the start of the cell specific bandwidth (which may have an offset to carrier, i.e. to Pont A) .

[0052] As it can be seen in Fig. 4 , example 1, a minimum of 1 PRB with SCS 30 kHz is needed to separate the two BWPs 410 and 420. And if the ending of BWP1 411 at 30 kHz would coincide with the start of BWP2 421 with 60 kHz, then, even 2 PRBs would be needed as the minimum guard band (see example 2) . The reason is that the current NR framework does not allow the configure BWPs with a finer granularity than the size of their PRBs, their PRBs shall be aligned with Point A and then also aligned with the above introduced “offset to carrier” . The underlying reason is that all BWPs need to be aligned with Point A and with each other.

[0053] In the specification 38.331 the following RRC parameters are defined to configure the offset from point A and the start of the BWP.

[0054] As mentioned above, the alignment restriction in NR comes from the design goal to have 4G / 5G dynamic spectrum sharing which no longer needs to be a must for 6G / 5G.

[0055] Below, a background for the guard band will be discussed.

[0056] When different numerologies are used in adjacent frequencies, e.g. different SCS or different symbol durations (e.g. as a consequence from different cyclic prefixes, such as ECP and NCP) , the sub-carriers lose their orthogonality and interference would leak e.g. from one BWP into another BWP.

[0057] Therefore, a guard band is needed between the two BWPs to avoid too much energy leaking from one BWP into the other BWP. The guard band can be achieved with gNB configuration , but its granularity depends on the bandwidth of the PRB with the smaller SCS, e.g. between 30 kHz and 60 kHz SCS, the guard band has a granularity of 360 kHz (in NR there are 12 subcarriers in one PRB, and with a SCS of 30 kHz the PRB width bcomes 12*30kHz=360 kHz) . The reason is that in 5G all PRBs with different SCS are aligned with a common frequency point A. In 5G that was deemed necessary, since dynamic co-existence with CRS from LTE was required.

[0058] However, it has been observed that too large guard bands in 5G consume too much spectrum and by reducing them, the DL and UL spectral efficiency could be enhanced. Note the guard band is used both for DL BWPs and UL BWPs. In 6G, a dynamic co-existence with 4G on the same spectrum will not be required anymore, only with 5G. But 5G has no always-on signals as LTE CRS, therefore novel approaches can be designed to minimize the guard band.

[0059] It has been found out that a solution could be that the two bandwidth parts, e.g., 410 and 420 or 411 and 421, with different or the same numerology should be not aligned on the same grid anymore. Starting from this a solution can be to keep the common resource block (CRB) grid and have a shift for the BWP configuration, that is smaller than the PRB size of the configured BWP.

[0060] An alternative solution can be to change the CRB grid to have a shift and to keep the BWP configuration. This solution can be summed up as follows. Solution 1: Keep the CRB grid and have a shift for BWP configuration  with smaller granularity than the PRB width OR Solution 2: Change the CRB grid to have the shift and keep the BWP  configuration.

[0061] According to an embodiment a method for configuring bandwidth parts within a physical resource block grid is provided. The method as shown by Fig. 5 comprises the central step S100 of operating with a bandwidth path, BWP, in accordance with the CRB grid and the BWP configuration and a shift parameter.

[0062] Note, this step can be performed on the UE side which receives, for example, the BWP configuration and the shift parameter, e.g., for transmitting or receiving (uplink transmissions or downlink transmissions) .

[0063] Note according to embodiments, operating may be interpreted as using the BWP (UE side) or as providing or configuring the BWP (network side) . Background is that the UE uses the BWP being shifted in accordance to the shift parameter, wherein the network provides or configures the BWB being shifted in accordance to the shift parameter. This may be done by signaling.

[0064] According to embodiments, the shift parameter enables to shift the BWP configuration. According to further embodiments the shift parameter enables to shift the CRB grid.

[0065] On the other side the step S100 can be performed at the network side which performs the signaling. Therefore, a method as shown by Fig. 6 may comprise the optional step of signaling S200 at least a shift parameter so as to enable the shift as discussed above. S200 is, for example, followed by S100.

[0066] For example, the signaling of step S200 may be performed by use of an information element, like a BWP information element, which comprises the shift parameter. According to embodiments the shift parameter may be comprised as an additional entry of one already used information element like the BWP information element. For example, the the shift can be realized by inserting it into an existing information element (e.g. the BWP) or by defining an new IE, especially for the shift.

[0067] Benefits of the discussed embodiments is that with minimum impact on the signaling BWPs can be allocated closer to each other which improves the overall spectral efficiency. In other words, the disclosure solves the BWP configuration problem. It can be applied both to UL BWP and DL BWPs.

[0068] Below, two embodiments will be discussed which solve the BWP configuration problem. It can be applied both to UL BWP and BL BWP.

[0069] First Solution according to embodiments In a first embodiment the BWPs can be located closer to each other than what is possible in NR. In NR, depending on the SCS, the frequency of the starting PRB is calculated as f_BWP_start = f_point A + (2^μ) * (12*SCS) kHz*n,

[0070] where μ is 0, 1, 2, 3 depending on the used SCS (15, 30, 60, 120 kHz) . For example SCS may be 15kHz. Note 12 (N) is a typical number of subcarriers, but may vary (general N) . An example table for potential start values is given by Fig. 7.

[0071] The above formula can be modified, so that it is possible that the BWPs can be located closer to each other when one BWPs is shifted or offset by using an offset in accordance to the shift parameter so as to obtain the BWP configuration. Consequently, the shift parameter according to embodiments enables to adapt the location of the BWPs so that their minimum distance is not anymore limited by the PRB width (s) of the BWPs. Beneficially the consequence is that the guard band between two BWPs is minimized and be set smaller than the PRB widths of any of the involved BWPs. For example, if 2 BWPs (one with SCS 30 kHz and the other with 60 kHz SCS) are placed next to each other, the guard band has a granularity of 360 kHz (360 kHz is the PRB width of the 30 kHz SCS) . But with the approach according to embodiments a smaller GB granularity, e.g. 180 kHz can be used, as discussed below.

[0072] According to another embodiment configurable offsets “k” are introduced to signal a finer granularity of the starting PRB: f_BWP_start = f_point A + (2^μ) * ( (N+k) *SCS) kHz*n,

[0073] where k = is indicating a finer offset than what is possible in NR and where N is the number of subcarriers per PRB, e.g. 12. Note 12” is just for the example of NR, since in NR 12 subcarriers are in one PRB. According to further developments it would be decided to have a different number of subcarriers in one PRB. SCS may be 15 kHz, 30 kHz, etc. An example is given in the Fig. 8. In this illustration, the start for the 60 kHz BWP from Example 2 in Fig. 4 is reduced from PRB_start=2 to PRB_start=1+6*60kHz, a gain of 360 kHz.

[0074] This embodiment provides the advantage of a reduced guard band as will be discussed taking reference to Fig. 8.

[0075] Fig. 8 shows the example 2, wherein the BWP 421 is shifted (cf. arrow 426) so as to obtain the location of BWP 422. Due to the shift 426 of the BWP 422 a minimum configurable guard band reduced from 720 kHz to 360 kHz is obtained.

[0076] There are several possibilities how this extra shift of the starting PRB can be can be captured in a potential specification. One possibility is to add another entry into the BWP IE as shown by Fig. 9. Please note that the “11” in fig 9 is just an example reflecting that currently there are 12 sub-carriers per PRB (see above) . In general, the number can be depending on the PRB size, so the upper bound can be different, and also that not all offset (integer values between 0 and 11) must be made possible. This is a trade-off between signalling overhead and achievable granularity.

[0077] Here, for example “6” could be added to allow a shift of the BWP shift with a half PRB. But also other offsets, e.g. between 1 and 11 are possible to achieve an even finer granularity of the BWP start. How many offsets are allowed is a trade-off between signaling overhead and desired granularity. The offsets do not need to represented as integer numbers as shown in the example above, they can also be represented as a bitstring. Dependent on how long the bitstring is chosen, a finer or coarser granularity is achieved as shown in the example of Fig. 10.

[0078] In another realization a modification of the locationAndBandwith can be used to directly to determine the starting position of the BWP. For example, the integer range shown above in the excerpt of the RRC spec could be extended to capture a larger range to include BWP offsets deviating from the default grid.Second Solution according to embodiments

[0079] In a second embodiment, the grid of the PRBs for one numerology can be changed. With this method, the offsetToCarrier is different for different BWPs or alternatively for different SCSs. Then, then BWP allocation and its duration does not need to be changed to obtain a smaller BWP.

[0080] This example for this embodiment is illustrated by Fig. 11 showing a BWP configuration being unchanged, wherein different offsets to carrier (cf. arrow 427) are used. Starting from the shift marked by 427 the grid for BWP 423 is shifted, e.g., by 30 kHz so that the guard band between 411 and 423 is minimized.

[0081] One example realization is to introduce a change to the IE for the SCS-SpecificCarrier, for example the offsetToCarrier can be extended to contain more values than the aligned PRB grid with Point A. Or, a new entry could be inserted in the IE as shown in the example of Fig. 12.

[0082] Here, for example 6 could be added to allow a shift from the aoffsetToCarrier with a half PRB for the given SCS. But also other offsets, between 1 and 11 are possible to achieve an even finer granularity of the BWP start. How many offsets are allowed is a trade-off between signaling overhead and desired granularity. The offsets do not need to represented as integer numbers as shown in the example above, they can also be represented as a bitstring. And dependent on how long the bitstring is chosen, a finer or coarser granularity is achieved as shown in the example of Fig. 13.

[0083] Solution 1 and Solution 2 both provided a frequency allocation having a reduced guard band. The configuration of the BWPs for solution 1 and solution 2 is done using an information, referred to as shift parameter in above discloser. The information or shift parameter is exchanged between the entities of the network (e.g. gNB to UE) as part of the signalling,Further aspects

[0084] According to a first aspect, a method for configuring bandwidth parts, BWPs, being defined by a BWP configuration, the method has: operating with a bandwidth part, BWP, in accordance with a frequency grid, especially a physical resource block grid, PRB grid, and the BWP configuration and a shift parameter.

[0085] According to a second aspect when referring back to the first aspect, the shift parameter adapts one of the BWPs so as to obtain a frequency domain allocation BWP.

[0086] According to a third aspect when referring back to any of the first to second aspects, the shift parameter represents an offset; and / or wherein the shift parameter represents an offset for offsetting at least one of the BWPs so as to obtain a BWP frequency domain location of the BWP.

[0087] According to a fourth aspect when referring back to any of the first to third aspects, in accordance with the shift parameter or offset defined by the shift parameter, a starting frequency of the BWP is set.

[0088] According to a fifth aspect when referring back to the fourth aspect, the BWP is allocated with its PRBs not being aligned with the common reference point A or common starting frequency.

[0089] According to a sixth aspect when referring back to the fourth aspect, the starting frequency is determined based on the following formula: f_BWP_start = f_point A + (2^μ) * ( (N+k) *SCS) kHz*n, wherein μ, e.g., 0, 1, 2, 3, is depending on a used specific carrier, SCS, e.g., 15 kHz, 30  kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, where N is the number of subcarriers per PRB, e.g. N = 12, and SCS describing the subcarrier spacing, e.g. SCS = 15, 30, 60, etc., and where k indicates a finer offset when compared to a predefined guard band.

[0090] According to a seventh aspect when referring back to any of the first to sixth aspects, the method comprises receiving the shift parameter or an information element, like a BWP information element, comprising shift parameter, e.g. at a user equipment, UE.

[0091] According to an eighth aspect when referring back to any of the first to seventh aspects, the method comprises transmitting the shift parameteror an information element, like a BWP information element, comprising shift parameter, e.g. from a network entity.

[0092] According to a ninth aspect when referring back to any of the first to eighth aspects, the shift parameter is defined as entry of a BWP configuration; or wherein the shift parameter is defined as a BWP information element.

[0093] According to a tenth aspect when referring back to any of the first to ninth aspects, the shift parameter is defined as an integer, e.g., between 0 to 11.

[0094] According to an eleventh aspect when referring back to any of the first to tenth aspects, the shift parameter is defined as a bitstring.

[0095] According to a twelfth aspect when referring back to any of the first to eleventh aspects, the shift parameter defines a modification of the location and bandwidth of the BWP; and / or wherein the shift parameter defines a modification of location and bandwidth of the BWP; wherein a starting frequency is determined based on said modification.

[0096] According to a thirteenth aspect when referring back to any of the first to twelfth aspects, the shift parameter defines a offset modifying location and bandwidth of the BWP; wherein the offset enables to capture a range so as to include BWP offsets deviating from the frequency grid; and / or wherein the shift parameter facilitates to place the BWP on a frequency grid with an granularity smaller than the bandwidth of the PRBs associated with the BWPs.

[0097] According to a fourteenth aspect when referring back to any of the first to thirteenth aspects, the shift parameter adapts the frequency grid to be used for the BWP.

[0098] According to a fifteenth aspect when referring back to any of the first to fourteenth aspects, an offset to a carrier is different for different BWPs or different for different specific carriers, SCSs.

[0099] According to a sixteenth aspect when referring back to the fourteenth or fifteenth aspect, the shift parameter provides an offset, e.g., an offset to a carrier, to be used to shift the frequency grid for the BWP or to be used for the BWP.

[0100] According to a seventeenth aspect when referring back to the sixteenth aspect, the offset shifts the frequency grid for the BWP.

[0101] According to an eighteenth aspect when referring back to any of the fourteenth to seventeenth aspects, the shift parameter is defined as an entry of the BWP configuration; or wherein the shift parameter is defined as an information element.

[0102] According to a nineteenth aspect when referring back to any of the fourteenth to eighteenth aspects, the shift parameter is defined as an integer, e.g., in a range between 0 to 11.

[0103] According to a twentieth aspect when referring back to any of the fourteenth to nineteenth aspects, 2 the shift parameter is defined as a bitstring.

[0104] According to a twenty-first aspect when referring back to any of the first to twenty-first aspects, the method further comprises signaling the shift parameter, e.g. within an information element to be transmitted.

[0105] A twenty-second aspect may have a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause any of the above methods to be performed by a user equipment of the wireless communication network or by a network entity of the wireless communication network.

[0106] A twenty-third aspect may have a user equipment, UE, of the wireless communication network, wherein the UE is configured to implement the method of any one of the first to twenty-first aspects.

[0107] A twenty-fourth aspect may have a user equipment, UE, of a wireless communication network, wherein the UE is configured to operate with a bandwidth part, BWP, in accordance to a frequency grid, especially a physical resource block grid, PRB grid, and a BWP configuration and a shift parameter so as to configure bandwidth parts, BWPs, of the frequency grid, in a wireless communication network, the BWPs being defined by the BWP configuration.
