Description

ASSISTANCE INFORMATION FOR A-IoT RESOURCE ALLOCATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to a user equipment (UE) , a base station, processors for wireless communication and methods for assistance information for ambient Internet of Things (A-IoT) resource allocation.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations (BSs) , which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication device, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] Internet of things (IoT) has attracted much attention in the wireless communication world. More ‘things’ are expected to be interconnected for improving productivity efficiency and increasing comforts of life. Further reduction of size, complexity, and power consumption of IoT devices can enable the deployment of tens or even hundreds of billion IoT devices for various applications and provide added value across the entire value chain. Enhancements for A-IoT networks, especially enhancements on resource allocation for A-IoT communications, are still needed.SUMMARY

[0004] The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and systems that support assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation. With the apparatuses and methods, it is possible to improve resource efficiency in the A-IoT system.

[0005] In a first aspect of the solution, a UE receives, from a base station, an inventory request or a command request for an ambient Internet of Things (A-IoT) communication. The UE transmits, to the base station, assistance information associated with resource allocation for the A-IoT communication.

[0071] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, MAC layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.

[0072] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0073] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0075] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0076] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0077] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0078] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0079] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbol (OFDM) symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0080] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0081] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0082] A wireless communication system may include an A-IoT device, which has a lower capability in terms of complexity and power consumption. Such wireless communication system may also be referred to as an A-IoT system.

[0083] Considering the limited size and complexity required by practical applications for A-IoT devices, the output power of energy harvester is typically from 1μW to a few hundreds of μW. Existing cellular devices may not work well with energy harvesting due to their peak power consumption of higher than 10mW.

[0084] 3GPP IoT technology is suitable for deployment in a 3GPP system and relies on ultra-low complexity devices with ultra-low power consumption for the very-low end IoT applications. Deployment scenario 1 with Topology 1 and Deployment scenario 2 with Topology 2 may be supported. In Deployment scenario 1 with Topology 1, the base station and coexistence characteristics are micro-cell and co-site. In Deployment scenario 2 with Topology 2 and UE as intermediate node, under network control, the base station and coexistence characteristics are macro-cell and co-site, and the location of intermediate node is indoor.

[0085] FIG. 1B illustrates an example communication system of the Topology 2 of an A-IoT system. As shown in FIG. 1B, in Topology 2, an A-IoT device 121 communicates bidirectionally with an intermediate device 122 between the A-IoT device 121 and the base station 123. In this topology, the intermediate device 122 may be implemented as a relay, IAB node, UE, repeater, etc. which is capable of A-IoT. The intermediate device 122 is also referred to as the reader of the A-IoT system, and the A-IoT device 121 is also referred to as the device of the A-IoT system. The intermediate device 122 transfers A-IoT data and / or signalling between the base station 123 and the A-IoT device 121.

[0086] The above communication devices involved in Topology 2 may be implemented by devices involved in the wireless communications system 100 as described herein with reference to FIG. 1A. For example, the base station 123 may be implemented by the network entity 102 in FIG. 1A. For example, the intermediate device 122 (when implemented by a UE) may be implemented by the UE 104 in FIG. 1A.

[0087] It is to be understood that the particular number of various communication devices and the particular number of various communication links as shown in FIG. 1B is for illustration purposes only without suggesting any limitations. The A-IoT system shown in FIG. 1B may include any suitable number of communication devices and any suitable number of communication links for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, it should be appreciated that there may be various wireless as well as wireline communications (if needed) among all of the communication devices. Further, the communications in the A-IoT system may be performed according to any suitable communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future (such as 4G, 5G, 6G, etc. ) .

[0088] In 3GPP Rel-20, Deployment Scenario 2 with Topology 2 with intermediate UE as Reader is specified, which includes specification of necessary Uu procedure to enable the A-IoT operations and A-IoT radio resource allocation aspects. In some embodiments, the gNB may provide A-IoT resource information to be used for A-IoT interface transmissions to the reader via RRC dedicated signaling. The resource allocation can be triggered by core network (CN) request. UE reader may provide assistance information related to A-IoT transmissions. It is up to gNB how the information is used.

[0089] Further studies are needed regarding the scenario where BS configures / allocates a set of resource in response to a request from UE reader, and to solve the issues related to implementing the assistance information from UE reader to gNB for the resource allocation used for A-IoT transmission. Specifically, three aspects remain open: when the UE reader should transmit the assistance information to gNB, what content the assistance information from UE reader to gNB should contain, and how the UE reader should transmit the assistance information to gNB.

[0090] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions to resolve the above issues that occurred in the A-IoT communication system or any other applicable issue that the solutions can solve. In an aspect of the present disclosure, an intermediate device receives an inventory request or a command request for an A-IoT communication from a base station. The intermediate device may transmit assistance information associated with resource allocation for the A-IoT communication to the base station. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the intermediate device may be implemented as an intermediate UE. As used herein, the intermediate UE may refer to a UE reader capable of A-IoT. It should be understood that the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard, embodiments of the present disclosure are described may also be applied to scenarios where the intermediate device is a relay, IAB node, UE, repeater, etc. which is capable of A-IoT.

[0091] It is to be understood that the terms used herein may be interchangeably used with other terminologies (but with same or similar functions) that might be used in future wireless communication system such as 6G.

[0092] FIG. 2 illustrates an example process 200 that supports assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1B. The process 200 may involve the intermediate device 122 and the base station 123 as shown in FIG. 1B. In some examples, the intermediate device 122, which may also be referred to as an intermediate node, may be implemented as a relay, IAB node, UE, repeater, etc. which is capable of A-IoT. As an example, the intermediate device 122 may be implemented as a UE with an A-IoT reader capability, which may also be referred to as a UE reader or an intermediate UE. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that the process 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0093] As shown in FIG. 2, the base station 123 transmits (202) an inventory request 204 or a command request 206 for an A-IoT communication to the intermediate UE 122. The intermediate UE 122 receives (208) the inventory request 204 or the command request 206 from the base station 123. The intermediate UE 122 transmits (210) assistance information 212 to the base station 123. The assistance information 212 is associated with resource allocation for the A-IoT communication. The base station 123 receives (214) the assistance information 212 from the base station 123.

[0094] In some embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine whether at least one condition associated with assistance information reporting is satisfied. The at least one condition may be configured by the base station 123 or may be predefined. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 based on determining that the at least one condition is satisified.

[0095] In some embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 if the received inventory request 204 or the received command request 206 does not include information for the resource allocation for the A-IoT communication. In other words, the at least one condition may include that the inventory request 204 or the command request 206 is received and does not comprise information for the resource allocation for the A-IoT communication. For example, upon receiving the inventory / command request from gNB which does not contain the A-IoT resource information, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation to gNB.

[0096] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 if the received inventory request 204 or the received command request 206 includes a request for the assistance information. In other words, the at least one condition may include that the inventory request 204 or the command request 206 is received and comprises a request for the assistance information. For example, upon receiving the inventory / command request from gNB which contains the request for assistance information, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation to gNB. In some example embodiments, the request for the assistance information may include an indication indicating requesting the assistance information 212. For example, the request for assistance information may be a bit indication. Alternatively or additionally, the request for the assistance information may include at least one information type of the requested assistance information. For example, the request for assistance information may includes specific assistance information to request.

[0097] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine scheduling information for the A-IoT communication based on the inventory request 204 or the command request 206, and transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 based on determining the scheduling information. In other words, the at least one condition may include that scheduling information for the A-IoT communication is determined based on the inventory request or the command request. For example, upon the scheduling information is determined for the inventory request e.g. the number of A-IoT paging rounds / access occasions, time / frequency / code resource number for each A-IoT access occasion etc., the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB.

[0098] In some examples, the scheduling information may include at least one of the following: a number of paging rounds; a number of access occasions in a paging round; a number of time domain resources of access occasions triggered by a paging message or an access trigger message; a number of frequency domain resources of access occasions triggered by a paging message or an access trigger message; or a number of code domain resources of access occasions triggered by a paging message or an access trigger message.

[0099] In some alternative embodiments, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted at a time instance associated with a transmission of a message related to an A-IoT procedure of the A-IoT communication. In other words, the at least one condition is associated with the transmission of the message. The message may be an A-IoT paging message or an access trigger message. In some examples, the time instance may be within a time duration before the transmission of the message. For example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB within a time duration before each A-IoT access occasion is started / initiated, i.e., access trigger message is transmitted. In another example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB within a time duration before each paging round is started / initiated, i.e., A-IoT paging message is transmitted. In some alternative examples, the time instance may be at the transmission of the message. For example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB when each A-IoT access occasion is started / initiated. In another example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB when each paging round is started / initiated. In some alternative examples, the time instance may be within a time duration after the transmission of the message. For example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB within a time duration after each A-IoT access occasion is started / initiated. In another example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB within a time duration after each paging round is started / initiated. In some alternative examples, the time instance may be at a first available uplink transmission resource after the transmission of the message. For example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB at a first available UL transmission resource after each A-IoT access occasion is started / initiated. In another example, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB at a first available UL transmission resource after each paging round is started / initiated.

[0100] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine required resources for a next procedure of the A-IoT communication. The next procedure may be a next paging round or a next access occasion. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station at the time instance based on determining that the required resources for the next procedure does not match allocated resources for the next procedure. In other words, the at least one condition is associated with the transmission of the message and includes that required resources for a next procedure of the A-IoT communication does not match allocated resources for the next procedure. For example, upon the UE reader determines that the A-IoT resource used for next procedure (e.g., paging round, access occasion, etc. ) is different with the allocated resource, or the UE reader determines that the allocated A-IoT resource can not match the A-IoT transmission for next procedure (e.g., paging round, access occasion, etc. ) , the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB.

[0101] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine whether less resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station if less resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. In other words, the at least one condition may include that less resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. For example, if less resource is needed for A-IoT D2R / R2D transmission, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB.

[0102] In some example embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine a required resource size for a next procedure of the A-IoT communication. The next procedure may be a next paging round or a next access occasion or a next segmentation transmission. The intermediate UE 122 may determine whether the required resource size is smaller than a size of remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. If the required resource size is smaller than a size of remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that less resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. For example, if less resource is needed for current paging round, e.g., in frequency domain, specifically for different paging round, if the required resource for paging round is reduced, the UE reader can indicate gNB to reduce the resource allocated to the AIoT interface.

[0103] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine whether additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station if additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. In other words, the at least one condition may include that additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. For example, if more resource is needed for A-IoT D2R / R2D transmission, the UE reader may transmit assistance information for A-IoT resource update to gNB.

[0104] In some example embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine a required resource size for a next procedure of the A-IoT communication. The next procedure may be a next paging round or a next access occasion or a next segmentation transmission. The intermediate UE 122 may determine whether the required resource size is larger than a size of remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. If the required resource size is larger than a size of remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication. For example, if the remaining AIoT resource cannot guarantee the AIoT interface transmission for next paging round / next access occasion / next segmentation transmission, i.e., the remaining AIoT resource size is less than the resource size needs for next paging round / next access occasion / next segmentation transmission, the UE reader may determine that more resource is needed for A-IoT D2R / R2D transmission.

[0105] In some alternative example embodiments, if the intermediate UE 122 receives a more data indication from an A-IoT device, and there are no remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication.

[0106] In some alternative example embodiments, if the intermediate UE 122 receives a more data indication from an A-IoT device, and a size of remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication is smaller than a threshold size, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that additional resources are needed for the A-IoT communication.

[0107] In some alternative embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended and that there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 based on determining that the A-IoT communication is ended and that there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. In other words, the at least one condition may include that the A-IoT communication is ended and there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. For example, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information for AIoT resource release to gNB upon the initiated AIoT service is completed / ended and there has unused / remaining AIoT resource configured by gNB.

[0108] In some examples, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended if a last A-IoT paging message or access trigger message for the inventory request 204 or the command request 206 has been transmitted. In some alterntative examples, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended if a size of a received device-to-reader (D2R) medium access control (MAC) protocal data unit (PDU) is smaller or equal to a resource size of a D2R transport block size (TBS) , and that no more data is indicated by A-IoT devices. In some alterntative examples, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended if a total size of a received D2R MAC PDU is larger than a resource size of a D2R TBS, and no more data is indicated by A-IoT devices. In some alterntative examples, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended if an inventory response for the inventory request 204 is transmitted and no command request is received from the base station 123 within a time duration after the inventory response is transmitted. In some alterntative examples, the intermediate UE 122 may determine that the A-IoT communication is ended if there is no A-IoT transmission between the UE 122 and A-IoT devices during a time duration.

[0109] In some example embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 once the A-IoT communication is ended and there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. For example, when the initiated AIoT service is completed / ended and there has unused / remaining AIoT resource configured by gNB, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information for AIoT resource release to gNB immediately.

[0110] In some alternative example embodiments, the intermediate UE 122 may determine whether an additional condition is satisfied based on determining that the A-IoT communication is ended and that there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication. The intermediate UE 122 may transmit the assistance information 212 to the base station 123 based on determining that the additional condition is satisfied. In other words, the at least one condition may include thatthe A-IoT communication is ended, there are remaining available resources allocated for the A-IoT communication, and an additional condition is satisfied. In some examples, the additional condition may include that no additional inventory request 204 or additional command request 206 is received within a time duration after the A-IoT communication is ended. For example, when the initiated AIoT service is completed / ended and there has unused / remaining AIoT resource configured by gNB, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information for AIoT resource release to gNB if there has no additional inventory / command request received during a specific time duration. In some alterntative examples, the additional condition may include that an additional inventory request 204 or an additional command request 206 is received within a time duration after the A-IoT communication is ended, and the additional inventory request 204 or the additional command request 206 include information for additional resource allocation for additional A-IoT communication. For example, when the initiated AIoT service is completed / ended and there has unused / remaining AIoT resource configured by gNB, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information for AIoT resource release to gNB if the new received inventory / command request includes additional A-IoT resource information.

[0111] In some embodiments, the assistance information 212 may include an indication indicating requesting the resource allocation for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include a rejection indication for a request of assistance information 212. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include an indication of requiring additional or less resources for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include an indication of releasing resources for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include an indication of an end of the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include an expected resource type for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include an expected resource size for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include a suggested time domain resource for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include a suggested frequency domain resource for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include a suggested code domain resource for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include scheduling information for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include information of resources that have been used for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include information of remaining resources for the A-IoT communication. Alternatively or additionally, the assistance information 212 may include size information of a received D2R MAC PDU.

[0112] For example, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may include at least one but not limited to following information: an indication to request A-IoT resource / an indication to reject gNB requested information  / an indication to release the A-IoT resource (e.g., 1 bit, etc. ) ; an indication of more A-IoT data to be transmitted or more A-IoT resource required, or a an indication of data transmission / A-IoT service completed; an expected resource type / resource size used for A-IoT interface transmission; preferred time / frequency / code resource (e.g., time duration) ; scheduling parameters details (e.g., the number of paging round / access occasions, the number of time / frequency domain resource of access occasions, i.e., value X, NSFS) ; used / unused A-IoT resource information (e.g., used / unused resource size, time / frequency resource indication) ; or received / remaining data size (or a range / level related to data size) information of the D2R MAC PDU. The content of assistance information transmitted from UE reader to gNB may be different for different trigger cases.

[0113] In some examples, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via UE assistance information (UAI) . Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via a radio resource control (RRC) message. Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via an inventory response. Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via an inventory report. Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via a command responses. For example, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may be transmitted via a RRC message / signaling, which may be particularly suitable for inventory related procedure etc. In a first option, UAI may be used to transmit the assistance information. In a second option, a specific RRC message / signaling may be designed to transmit the assistance information. In a third option, an inventory response  / inventory report  / command responses in Uu interface may be used to carry the assistance information.

[0114] Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via an MAC control element (CE) . Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via a scheduling request (SR) . Alternatively, the assistance information 212 may be transmitted via a buffer status report (BSR) . For example, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may be transmitted via a MAC layer signaling, which may be particularly suitable for command only procedure. In a first option, an A-IoT specific MAC CE may be used to carry the assistance information, e.g., a simple bit indication. In a second option, an A-IoT specific SR / BSR procedure may be used to request Uu resource for A-IoT information transmission. The buffer status report may includes the buffer of received / remaining data size information or the requested A-IoT resource size.

[0115] In some embodiments, the base station 123 may determine resources allocated for the A-IoT communication based on the assistance information 212, and transmit information of the resources allocated for the A-IoT communication to the intermediate UE 122. The intermediate UE 122 may receive information of resources allocated for the A-IoT communication from the base station 123 and allocate resources for A-IoT communication to the A-IoT devices.

[0116] Hereinbefore, some embodiments related to assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation are described in general terms. Hereinafter, some specific embodiments related to assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation will be further detailed with regards to different trigger cases.

[0117] In the first embodiment, the UE reader may transmit assistance information to gNB to allocate A-IoT resource. The UE reader may transmit assistance information to gNB for requesting a set of resources used for A-IoT transmission. Since RRC-based solution is used for A-IoT upper layer information transfer, CN indicates the A-IoT inventory / command request to the UE-reader which is explicitly forwarded by the gNB via NR Uu RRC message. Meanwhile, the A-IoT resource information is allocated to the UE reader by using RRC signalling. Generally, the resource allocation can be triggered by CN request. However, in some cases, the assistance information from UE reader is triggered to request gNB to configure a set of resource used for A-IoT interface transmission.

[0118] In a first example embodiment, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB for A-IoT resource allocation upon receiving the inventory / command request from gNB, which does not contain A-IoT resource information. In this case, the assistance information from UE reader is used for resource request. The assistance information may contain at least one but not limited to following information: a simple indication to request the A-IoT resource (e.g., 1 bit, etc. ) , which can be carried in inventory response message; an expected resource type / resource size used for A-IoT interface transmission; preferred time / frequency resource (e.g., time duration) ; scheduling parameters determined in UE reader side (e.g., the number of paging round, the number of access occasions, the number of time domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., X) , the number of frequency domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., NSFS) )

[0119] In a second example embodiment, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB for A-IoT resource allocation upon receiving the inventory / command request from gNB, which includes a request for assistance information. The request for assistance information can be only 1 bit indication, or further includes an indication of the specific information to request (e.g., specific scheduling parameters, or resource type / resource size, etc. ) . Based on the request from gNB, the UE reader may transmit corresponding assistance information.

[0120] If 1 bit indication is included in the request, UE reader may transmit at least one but not limited to following information: expected resource type / resource size used for A-IoT interface transmission; preferred time / frequency resource (e.g., time duration) ; scheduling parameters determined in UE reader side (e.g., the number of paging round, the number of access occasions, the number of time domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., X) , the number of frequency domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., NSFS) ) .

[0121] If the request from gNB further includes an indication of the specific information to request, e.g., one or multiple scheduling information among the number of paging rounds, the number access occasions, value X, NSFS., or resource type, resource size etc., the UE reader may include corresponding information in the assistance information if available. In the case that the UE reader cannot provide the requested information, the UE reader may include a reject indication / empty in the assistance information, which can be carried in inventory responses message.

[0122] In the second embodiment, the UE reader may transmit assistance information to gNB for to update A-IoT resource. Since gNB may configure / allocate a set of resources used for A-IoT interface transmission in response to CN request, the UE reader schedules the A-IoT interface transmissions within the resources allocated by the gNB. In some cases, the UE reader may need the transmit the assistance information to the gNB to update the allocated A-IoT resource based on the incoming / ongoing A-IoT service transmission status.

[0123] In a first example embodiment, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB for A-IoT resource allocation upon determining the scheduling information for the inventory request. In this case, UE reader determines the scheduling information for A-IoT paging based on the received inventory request from gNB. The scheduling information includes e.g., the number of paging round, the number of access occasions, the number of time domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., X) , the number of frequency domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., NSFS) . Upon the scheduling information is determined, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information, which includes above determined scheduling information to gNB to assist the gNB updating the A-IoT resource.

[0124] In a second example embodiment, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB for A-IoT resource allocation before / when / after each paging round / access occasion is started / initiated, or upon the UE reader determines that the A-IoT resource used for next procedure (e.g., paging round) is different with the allocated resource, or UE reader determines the allocated A-IoT resource cannot match the A-IoT transmission for next procedure (e.g., paging round, access occasion, etc.

[0125] The UE reader starts / initiates each paging round by transmitting the A-IoT paging message, or access trigger message. Before / when / after the A-IoT paging message is transmitted, the UE reader transmits the assistance information to gNB to assist gNB updating the A-IoT resource. The assistance infrmation includes at least one but not limited to: remaining number of paging rounds for the inventory request; remaining number of access occasions; the number of time domain  / frequency domain resource of access occasions triggered by A-IoT Paging message or one Access Trigger message (i.e., value X, NSFS) ; used / unused A-IoT resource information (e.g., used / unused resource size, or used / unused time / frequency resource indication) ; or received / remaining data size information of the D2R MAC PDU including the total upper layer data.

[0126] In a third example embodiment, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB for A-IoT resource allocation in the case that more resource is needed for A-IoT D2R / R2D transmission.

[0127] In some examples, the UE reader may determine more resource is needed when the remaining A-IoT resource cannot guarantee the A-IoT interface transmission for next paging round / next access occasion / next segmentation transmission, i.e., when the remaining A-IoT resource size is less than the resource size needs for next paging round / next access occasion / next segmentation transmission. In some examples, the UE reader may determine more resource is needed when a more data indication is received from A-IoT device side and there is no remaining resource or remaining resource size for A-IoT transmission is less than a specific threshold.

[0128] If the UE reader determines that more resource is needed, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may include at least one but not limited to: a more data / resource indication (e.g., 1 bit to request more resource) , received data size information of the D2R MAC PDU including the total upper layer data, preferred time / frequency resource (e.g., time duration) or expected resource size / resource type.

[0129] In a third embodiment, the UE reader may transmit assistance information to gNB to release A-IoT resource. Considering that gNB may not always configure accurate resource to UE reader for A-IoT transmission, to make the UE reader to perform inventory / command request efficiently, gNB may allocate sufficient resource to the UE reader to complete the A-IoT service. Then in the case of the UE reader complete the A-IoT service, the UE reader may send the assistance information to the gNB to release the unused resource. Then gNB can make better use of the resource for other services transmission.

[0130] The UE reader may transmit the assistance information to gNB to release the A-IoT resource upon the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended and there has unused / remaining A-IoT resource configured by gNB. In some examples, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information immediately when the UE reader determines that the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information when the UE reader determines that the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended, and there has no additional inventory / command request has received during a specific time duration. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may transmit the assistance information when the UE reader determines that the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended, and the new received inventory / command request includes additional A-IoT resource information.

[0131] In some examples, the UE reader may determine the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended when the last A-IoT paging message or access trigger message for the inventory request has been transmitted. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may determine the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended when the received size of the resulting D2R MAC PDU including the total upper layer data is small or equal to the resource size given by the D2R TBS, and no more data indicated, i.e., MDI=0. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may determine the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended when received size of the resulting D2R MAC PDU including the total upper layer data is larger than the resource size given by the D2R TBS, and no more data indicated, i.e., MDI=0. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may determine the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended if the inventory response is transmitted and no command request from gNB is received for a time duration. In some alternative examples, the UE reader may determine the initiated A-IoT service is completed / ended if there has no A-IoT communication between UE reader and devices during a configured time duration.

[0132] The assistance information from UE reader my include at least one but not limited to following: ssimple bits of A-IoT resource release indication (e.g., 1 bit) ; A-IoT service completed indication (e.g. 1 bit) , which can be carried in inventory response / report or command response message; or used / unused A-IoT resource information (e.g., specific time / frequency resource indication for used / unused A-IoT resource) .

[0133] For the first, second or third embodiment, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may be transmitted via a RRC-based solution, e.g. which may be suitable for inventory related procedure. In some examples, UAI may be used to transmit the assistance information for A-IoT resource. Alternatively, a new RRC message / signaling may be designed to transmit the assistance information for A-IoT resource. Alternatively, an inventory response / inventory report / command responses are used to carry the assistance information for A-IoT resource.

[0134] Alternatively, the first, second or third embodiment, the assistance information from UE reader to gNB may be transmitted via a MAC-based solution, e.g., which may be suitable for command only procedure. In some examples, A-IoT specific MAC CE may be used to carry the assistance information, e.g., simple bit indication. Alternatively, A-IoT specific SR / BSR procedure is used to request Uu resource for A-IoT related information transmission. The buffer status report may include the buffer of received / remaining data size information or the requested A-IoT resource size.

[0135] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, solutions for the content of the assistance information, and the signaling used for the assistance information transmission are designed. In this way, the resource efficiency for A-IoT communication may be improved.

[0136] FIG. 3 illustrates an example of a device 300 that supports assistance information for A-IoT resource allocation in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 300 may be an example of an intermediate device 122, or a base station 123 as described herein. The device 300 may support wireless communication with one or more other devices in the A-IoT system. The device 300 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 302, a memory 304, a transceiver 306, and, optionally, an I / O controller 308. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .
