[0050] In some embodiments, the respective linear combination coefficient matrix for each TRP of the plurality of TRPs includes a respective matrix for each of the at least one layer, which indicates a plurality of linear combination coefficients and has a dimension based on a number of polarization directions and a number of subbands for CSI reporting. In some embodiments, for a reference TPR within the plurality of TRPs, matrix element (s) of a first respective matrix for a first layer of the at least one layer in a row associated with a polarization direction of the number of polarization directions has a value of 1; and for each remaining TRP within the plurality of TRPs, matrix element (s) of the respective matrix for the first layer is based on correspond matrix element (s) in the first respective matrix.

[0051] In some embodiments, the reference TPR is associated with a predefined NZP CSI-RS resource in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement.

[0052] In some embodiments, for each TPR of the plurality of TRPs, the PMI includes a first indicator indicating a first number of orthogonal vectors from the respective frequency domain basis matrix having a dimension based on a number of subbands for CSI reporting. In some embodiments, the first number is configured for the UE by the BS to a value selected from a value set including 2 and 3 or is predefined.

[0053] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a processor. The processor may include at least one controller coupled with at least one memory and configured to cause the processor to: receive, from a BS, a codebook configuration for a codebook supporting at least one layer, wherein the codebook has a unified codebook structure based on a spatial domain basis matrix, a frequency domain basis matrix, and a linear combination coefficient matrix; determine a PMI for the codebook; and transmit, to the BS, a CSI report including the PMI.

[0054] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a processor. The processor may include at least one controller coupled with at least one memory and configured to cause the processor to: transmit, to a UE, a codebook configuration for a codebook supporting at least one layer, wherein the codebook has a unified codebook structure based on a spatial domain basis matrix, a frequency domain basis matrix, and a linear combination coefficient matrix; and receive, from the UE, a CSI report including a PMI for the codebook.

[0065] The detailed description of the appended drawings is intended as a description of the preferred embodiments of the present disclosure and is not intended to represent the only form in which the present disclosure may be practiced. It should be understood that the same or equivalent functions may be accomplished by different embodiments that are intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure.

[0066] While operations are depicted in the drawings in a particular order, persons skilled in the art will readily recognize that such operations need not be performed in the particular order as shown or in a sequential order, or that all illustrated operations need be performed, to achieve desirable results; sometimes one or more operations can be skipped. Further, the drawings can schematically depict one or more example processes in the form of a flow diagram. However, other operations that are not depicted can be incorporated in the example processes that are schematically illustrated. For example, one or more additional operations can be performed before, after, simultaneously, or between any of the illustrated operations. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing can be advantageous.

[0067] Reference will now be made in detail to some embodiments of the present disclosure, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. To facilitate understanding, embodiments are provided under a specific network architecture (s) and new service scenarios, such as the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) 5G NR or 6G, 3GPP LTE, and so on. It is contemplated that along with the development of network architectures and new service scenarios, all embodiments in the present disclosure are also applicable to similar technical problems; and moreover, the terminologies recited in the present disclosure may change, which should not affect the principles of the present disclosure.

[0068] MIMO operations can improve spectrum efficiency and system coverage by using a large-scale antenna array to obtain larger beamforming gain, so as to compensate for larger pathloss. System performance, however, depends heavily on accurate CSI, where a codebook is used to determine the PMI of the CSI. Therefore, codebook design is a key topic for MIMO. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a unified codebook structure that can support multiple types, with the intention of covering all legacy codebook types and more newly introduced codebook types. This unified codebook can simplify UE realization and BS configuration.

[0069] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of wireless communication system 100 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0070] The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more NEs 102 (e.g., one or more BSs) , one or more UEs 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communication system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be an NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultra-wideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , and IEEE 802.20. The wireless communication system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communication system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0071] The one or more NEs 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communication system 100. One or more of the NEs 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) node, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the one or more NEs 102 may include different types of BSs (e.g., macro BS, pico BS, femto BS, relay BS, etc. ) . These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels and different coverage areas. For example, a macro BS may have a relatively high transmit power level, while pico BSs, femto BSs, and relay BSs may have a relatively low transmit power levels. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an NE 102 may include a CU and one or more DUs. An F1 interface may be established between the DU of NE 102 and the CU of NE 102.

[0072] An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0073] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with a different NE 102.

[0074] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communication system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0075] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0076] A relaying function based on a sidelink may be supported in the wireless communication system 100. For example, a UE 104 supporting sidelink communication may function as a relay node to extend the coverage of an NE 102 (e.g., a BS) . An out-of-coverage or in-coverage UE may communicate with a BS via a relay node (e.g., a relay UE) . In some implementations, a UE, which functions as a relay between another UE and a BS, may be referred to as a UE-to-network (U2N) relay.

[0077] An NE 102 may support communication with the CN 106, or with another NE 102 or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with another NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3 or another network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0078] In some implementations, an NE 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more NEs 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, an NE 102 may include one or more of a centralized unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) (e.g., a TRP) , a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) (e.g., a near-real time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a non-real time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a service management and orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof. One or more components of the NEs 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the NEs 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) or a virtual DU (VDU) ) .

[0079] Split of functionality between a CU and a DU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU or a DU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host higher protocol layers (e.g., L3 (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) layer) and parts of L2 (e.g., service data adaption protocol (SDAP) layer and packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer) functionality and signaling. The CU may be connected to one or more DUs, which may host lower protocol layers (e.g., L1 (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) and parts of L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer and medium access control (MAC) layer) ) functionality and signaling, and be at least partially controlled by the CU. A DU may support one or multiple different cells. A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions.

[0080] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , a 5G core (5GC) , or 6G core (6GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management function (AMF) ) functions and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NEs 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0081] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0082] In the wireless communication system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communication system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communication) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies such as 6G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0083] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communication system 100, and a numerology may include subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A sixth numerology (e.g., μ=5) may be associated with a sixth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 480 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A seventh numerology (e.g., μ=6) may be associated with a seventh subcarrier spacing (e.g., 960 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. For ambient IoT communication, additional numerologies (e.g., μ=-1 or μ=-2) may be introduced corresponding to 7.5 kHz or 3.75 kHz, respectively.

[0084] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0085] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communication system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings (SCSs) of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0086] In the wireless communication system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communication system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communication over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communication traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0087] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least two numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0088] A UE 104 may include computing devices, such as desktop computers, laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs) , tablet computers, smart televisions (e.g., televisions connected to the Internet) , set-top boxes, game consoles, security systems (including security cameras) , vehicle on-board computers, network devices (e.g., routers, switches, and modems) , or the like. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 may include a portable wireless communication device, a smart phone, a cellular telephone, a flip phone, a device having a subscriber identity module, a personal computer, a selective call receiver, or any other device that is capable of sending and receiving communication signals on a wireless network. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 includes wearable devices, such as smart watches, fitness bands, optical head-mounted displays, or the like. Moreover, a UE 104 may be referred to as a subscriber unit, a mobile, a mobile station, a user, a terminal, a mobile terminal, a wireless terminal, a fixed terminal, a subscriber station, a user terminal, or a device, or described using other terminology used in the art. A UE 104 may communicate with an NE 102 (e.g., a BS) via uplink (UL) communication signals. An NE 102 may communicate with a UE 104 via downlink (DL) communication signals.

[0089] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over licensed spectrums, whereas in some other embodiments, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over unlicensed spectrums. The present disclosure is not intended to be limited to the implementation of any particular wireless communication system architecture or protocol. Persons skilled in the art should understand that as technology develops and advances, the terminologies described in the present disclosure may change, but should not affect or limit the principles and spirit of the present disclosure.

[0090] Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) has been a fundamental part of various networks (e.g., 4G and 5G) , and may continue to be an important part of future networks (e.g., 6G) . MIMO operations can improve spectrum efficiency and system coverage by using a large-scale antenna array to obtain larger beamforming gain, so as to compensate for larger pathloss. System performance, however, depends heavily on accurate CSI, where a codebook is used to determine the PMI of the CSI. In typical CSI reporting mechanisms, a UE reports a PMI that points to a specific precoding matrix within a codebook. This PMI represents the UE's recommendation for optimal precoding based on its estimated channel state. Therefore, codebook design is a key topic for MIMO. Many kinds of codebooks are proposed in a 4G or 5G system to match the evolution of antenna systems. For example, 5G systems can support various Type 1 codebooks (having low feedback overhead and realization complexity) and Type 2 codebooks (having finer feedback granularity) including the following for determining the PMI for CSI reporting: R15 Type 1 codebook (no more than 32 ports) , R19 refined eType 1 codebook (supporting more than 32 ports) , R15 Type 2 codebook, R16 eType 2 codebook, R18 CJT eType 2 codebook, R18 Doppler eType 2 codebook, R19 refined eType 2 codebook, R19 refined eType 2 Doppler codebook, R15 Type 2 port selection codebook, R16 eType 2 port selection codebook, R17 feType 2 port selection, R18 CJT eType 2 port selection codebook, R18 Doppler eType 2 port selection codebook, R19 refined feType 2 port selection codebook, and R19 refined Doppler eType 2 port selection codebook. This increases the complexity of the UE for supporting so many codebooks, as well as the complexity of the BS configuration for the many configurations of the different codebooks.

[0091] It is desirable to design a codebook with a unified structure that can support multiple types. The adoption of such a unified-structured codebook renders the distinction among codebook types unnecessary, as different codebooks can be generated simply by applying different parameter configuration (e.g., frequency basis, beam number, quantization parameter, beam selection scheme, etc. ) to the same structure. That is, with the unified codebook, the realization for all codebook types is common. However, for the sake of convenience, the embodiments may also use the term "codebook type" for illustrative purposes. This unified codebook can simplify UE realization and BS configuration. Additionally, to achieve a larger throughput, a BS can configure the desirable codebook for CSI reporting based on the application scenario. For example, the suitable codebook can be selected to provide a good tradeoff between performance and feedback overhead based on the application scenario. Furthermore, the unified codebook can be used in an artificial intelligence (AI) system by providing simple inputs that include all types of codebooks. The AI can then select the appropriate codebook or codeword.

[0092] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the codebook is based on a unified codebook structure without any restriction of a specific maximum number of antenna ports (e.g., 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 64, 128, or 256) . A UE can determine an appropriate codebook based on the unified codebook structure and a codebook configuration from a BS. Then the UE can determine a PMI based on its channel measurement, and transmit a CSI report including the determined PMI to the BS. Correspondingly, the BS can, utilizing the same unified structure and the codebook configuration for the UE, determine the specific precoding matrix corresponding to the received PMI.

[0093] In the above unified codebook structure,  is a spatial domain basis matrix with being L orthogonal vectors each of a size of N1N2×1, for example, orthogonal discrete Fourier transform (DFT) vectors for a codebook without port selection or port selection vectors (e.g., with only one “1” and the rest “0” sin a vector of dimension N1N2×1) for a feType 2 port selection codebook. N1 is the number of antenna ports per polarization in a first spatial dimension (e.g., the horizontal domain) , and N2 is the number of antenna ports per polarization in a second spatial dimension (e.g., the vertical domain) . The values of N1 and N2 may be configured by a BS for a UE, for example, from a predefined set of value combinations.

[0094] is a frequency domain basis matrix with being M orthogonal vectors with a size of N3×1 (e.g., orthogonal DFT vectors) . N3 is based on the number of subbands (e.g., equal to the multiplication of the number of subbands for CSI reporting and the frequency domain granularity for PMI feedback) . In some embodiments, Wf as defined above can be used for a non-doppler based codebook, and for a doppler based codebook, Wf can be extended to is a doppler domain basis matrix with being Q orthogonal vectors with a size of N4×1 (e.g., orthogonal DFT vectors) . The value of N4 may be configured by a BS for a UE or predefined, for example, in 3GPP standards. In some embodiments, Wd is commonly selected for all spatial domain and frequency domain bases (i.e., W1 and Wf) .

[0095] is a linear combination coefficient matrix with KNZ non-zero coefficients, which are quantized by amplitude and phase. The value of KNZ may be configured by a BS for a UE, for example, from a predefined set of values or predefined, for example, in 3GPP standards. For a non-doppler based codebook, the non-zero coefficients are out of 2LM linear combination coefficients associated with beam l ∈ {0, 1, …, 2L-1} and frequency unit m ∈ {0, 1, …, M-1} . For a doppler based codebook, the non-zero coefficients are out of 2LMQ linear combination coefficients associated with beam l∈{0, 1, …, 2L-1} , frequency unit m∈ {0, 1, …, M-1} and Doppler unit q∈ {0,1, …, Q-1} .

[0096] The unified codebook structure according to the present disclosure can be used to generate both Type 1 codebooks and Type 2 codebooks as mentioned above. For example, as detailed in the following embodiments, the unified codebook structure disclosed herein can be utilized to generate various Type 1 codebooks including a Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, a Type 1 codebook without a transform domain and a Type 1 based CJT codebook. A Type 1 based CJT codebook can be used for cell edge users with smaller CSI reporting overhead. For these codebooks, specific design details are provided, including the spatial domain basis matrix for beam selection, the linear combination coefficient matrix for quantization and different restrictions for the frequency domain basis matrix. Furthermore, for a CJT codebook, the corresponding design details for the aforementioned matrices are specified for each TRP. Other codebooks can be derived in a similar manner based on this unified framework. In addition, as also detailed in the following embodiments, by configuring or specifying the bases for the spatial domain, frequency domain and / or doppler domain, a UE can determine the corresponding codebook for a CSI report. More details on the embodiments of the present disclosure will be illustrated in the following text in combination with the appended drawings.

[0097] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, for a unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, the spatial domain basis matrix W1 can be constructed as a block diagonal matrix formed by a vector v0, i.e.,  The vector v0 is selected from a set of orthogonal vectors corresponding to a set of oversampled beams, and has a dimension determined based on the antenna array configuration. The antenna array configuration may indicate at least: the number of antenna ports (e.g., N1) per polarization in a first spatial dimension (e.g., horizontal) , the number of antenna ports (e.g., N2 ) per polarization in a second spatial dimension (e.g., vertical) , the oversampling factor (e.g., O1 ) for the first spatial dimension, and the oversampling factor (e.g., O2) for the second spatial dimension. In these embodiments, one-stage beam selection is used.

[0098] For example, v0 may be an N1N2×1 orthogonal DFT vector selected from N1O1N2O2 oversampled beams. In some examples, there may be a restricted beam subset of N1O1N2O2 oversampled beams if a codebook subset restriction is configured. In this case, v0 or the corresponding beam is selected from the restricted beam subset.

[0099] For the unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, a single beam is selected for each layer. For each layer, the PMI reported by the UE may include an indicator indicating the single beam selected from the set of oversampled beams (or the restricted beam subset) . For example, for each layer, the PMI may indicate a single beam corresponding to a single orthogonal vector from the spatial domain basis matrix.

[0100] Various methods may be employed to indicate the selected beam. The following descriptions provide exemplary embodiments. Based on the present disclosure, persons skilled in the art may conceive of other implementations, all of which fall within the scope of this disclosure.

[0101] In some examples, the PMI may include a beam index to identify each selected beam from the total set of oversampled beams (or the restricted beam subset) . For example, the oversampled beams can be jointly indexed from 0 to N1O1N2O2-1. Accordingly,  bits are sufficient to uniquely identify each beam. This method is hereinafter referred to as "Scheme 1-1" .

[0102] In some examples, the PMI may include an index (denoted as a1) to identify each selected beam from a first oversampled beam domain of a first spatial dimension and another index (denoted as a2) to identify the beam from a second oversampled beam domain of a second spatial dimension. The first oversampled beam domain is based on a first number of antenna ports and a first oversampling factor in the first spatial dimension. The second oversampled beam domain is based on a second number of antenna ports and a second oversampling factor in the second spatial dimension. For example, a1 may identify the beam from a horizontal oversampled beam domain {0 to N1O1-1} and a2 may identify the beam from a vertical oversampled beam domain {0 to N2O2-1} , thereby a1 and a2 together can uniquely identify the selected beam. Accordingly,  bits and bits are sufficient for a1 and a2, respectively. This method is hereinafter referred to as "Scheme 1-2" .

[0103] In some examples, the PMI may include an index (denoted as a3) to identify each selected beam from a non-oversampled beam domain and another index (denoted as a4) to identify an oversampling configuration from an oversampling factor domain. The non-oversampled beam domain is based on the first number of antenna ports and the second number of antenna ports. The oversampling factor domain is based on the first oversampling factor and the second oversampling factor. For example, a3 may identify the beam from a non-oversampled beam domain {0 to N1N2-1} and a4 may identify the oversampling configuration from an oversampling factor domain {0 to O1O2-1} , thereby a3 and a4 together can uniquely identify the selected beam. Accordingly,  bits and bits are sufficient for a3 and a4, respectively. This method is hereinafter referred to as "Scheme 1-3" .

[0104] In some examples, all layers may share the same oversampling index (e.g., the same horizontal and vertical oversampling factors) , but have independent beam indexes (e.g., independent selected beams) . For example, the PMI may include an index (denoted as b1) to identify the selected beam for each layer from the non-oversampled beam domain and further include an oversampling index (denoted as b2) that indicates an oversampling configuration from the oversampling factor domain and is applicable to the selected beams across all layers. Accordingly,  bits and  bits are sufficient for b1 and b2, respectively. Since b2 is the same for all layers, it only needs to be indicated once among all layers. This method is hereinafter referred to as "Scheme 2" .

[0105] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, for the unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, the number of orthogonal vectors (i.e., M) , such as M orthogonal DFT vectors, in the frequency domain basis matrix Wf may be configured by the BS or predefined to a value selected from a value set. In practice, since the number of propagation paths with strong energy is limited, a larger value for M is typically unnecessary. Consequently, the value set for M may include 2 or 3, or both.

[0106] Furthermore, the stronger path may be different for different beams. Therefore, the frequency-domain basis vectors may be layer specific or layer-group specific. Accordingly, the PMI reported by the UE may indicate the M orthogonal vectors from the frequency domain basis matrix per layer or per layer group.

[0107] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, for the unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, the linear combination coefficient matrix may indicate a plurality of linear combination coefficients and have a dimension based on a number of polarization directions and the number of vectors (i.e., M) in the frequency domain basis matrix. For example,  may have a dimension of 2×M. Each linear combination coefficient can be quantized by phase and amplitude. For example, a phase of each of the plurality of linear combination coefficients may be quantized based on a PSK alphabet set (e.g., 16PSK or 8PSK) and an amplitude of the corresponding linear combination coefficient may be quantized based on an alphabet set including, for example,  The number of bits for indicating the quantized phase or amplitude depends on the number of values in the corresponding alphabet set (e.g., equal to or greater than  where x is the number of values in the corresponding alphabet set) . Accordingly, the PMI reported by the UE may indicate the quantized phase and the quantized amplitude from corresponding alphabet sets.

[0108] For example,  can be represented by when M is equal to 2 or by when M is equal to 3. Therefore, there are no more than 3 (when M=2) or 5 (when M=3) reported coefficients. For cl, f in its phase can be from the 16PSK (or 8PSK) alphabet set and reported with at least 4 (or 3) bits, and its amplitude can be from the following example alphabet set with at least 3 bits for reporting:  It should be noted that other alphabet sets can also be used, and the number of bits required depends on the number of values in the corresponding alphabet set. The amplitude for the strongest coefficient may be set to ‘1’ and its phase may be set to ‘0’ . It may be located in one of the 4 (when M=2) or 6 (when M=3) candidate positions in Two bits (when M=2) or three bits (when M=3) are sufficient to indicate the location of the strongest coefficient.

[0109] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, simply by configuring or specifying L=1 for the selected beam per layer and M=2 (or 3) , a UE can determine generating a unified Type1 codebook with a transform domain for CSI reporting.

[0110] The BS can determine the PMI for each subband based on the CSI report. A distinctive advantage of this codebook is its efficient overhead design. By constraining the number of combination coefficients to a small value (e.g., 3) , the number of bits required for reporting non-zero coefficients remains low (e.g., (4+3) x3=21 bits for 3 non-zero coefficients) . This overhead is comparable to, or even less than, that of existing schemes, such as the 5G Type I CSI reporting for polarization co-phasing across multiple subbands (e.g., 11x2=22bits for 11 subbands) . Thus, the above unified Type1 codebook with a transform domain is particularly advantageous when a large bandwidth is configured. Furthermore, it can provide refined subband PMI reporting, e.g., one subband with 2 PMIs.

[0111] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, for a unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, the frequency domain basis matrix Wf is a unit matrix having a dimension based on a number of subbands for CSI reporting or having a dimension of one. For example, when the CSI is configured to be reported per subband, Wf is a unit matrix with a dimension of N3×N3 ; and when the CSI is configured to be reported for wideband, Wf is ‘1’ . Therefore, there is no need to report a PMI item related to Wf. Given this restriction, the transform domain can be considered unused.

[0112] For the unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, the spatial domain basis matrix W1 can be constructed as a block diagonal matrix formed by a vector v0, i.e.,  The vector v0 is selected from a set of orthogonal vectors corresponding to a set of oversampled beams, and has a dimension determined based on the antenna array configuration. The antenna array configuration may indicate at least: the number of antenna ports (e.g., N1) per polarization in a first spatial dimension (e.g., horizontal) , the number of antenna ports (e.g., N2) per polarization in a second spatial dimension (e.g., vertical) , the oversampling factor (e.g., O1) for the first spatial dimension, and the oversampling factor (e.g., O2) for the second spatial dimension. For example, v0 may be an N1N2×1 orthogonal DFT vector selected from N1O1N2O2 oversampled beams. In some examples, there may be a restricted beam subset of N1O1N2O2 oversampled beams if a codebook subset restriction is configured. In this case, v0 or the corresponding beam is selected from the restricted beam subset.

[0113] For the unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain, a single beam is selected for each layer. That is, each layer has a corresponding beam selected. Various beam selection methods can be employed. The following descriptions provide exemplary embodiments. Based on the present disclosure, persons skilled in the art may conceive of other implementations, all of which fall within the scope of this disclosure.

[0114] In some embodiments, a single beam may be independently selected per layer from the set of oversampled beams (or the restricted beam subset) . The PMI reported by the UE may indicate the selected single beam for each layer. For example, for each layer, the PMI may indicate a single beam corresponding to a single orthogonal vector. Various methods may be employed to indicate the selected beam. For example, Schemes 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 2 as described above can apply here. This beam selection method (hereinafter "beam selection method #1" ) has the best beam selection flexibility, but with a relatively large (e.g., the largest) reporting overhead.

[0115] In some embodiments, a single beam may be independently selected per layer group. For example, all layers (e.g., the number is indicated by the rank indicator (RI) in the CSI report) may be grouped into at least one layer group. The PMI reported by the UE may indicate the selected single beam for each layer group. For example, for each layer group, the PMI may indicate a single beam corresponding to a single orthogonal vector. Various methods may be employed to indicate the selected beam. For example, Schemes 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 2 as described above can apply here.

[0116] In some embodiments, all layers may be grouped into one group. Therefore, 1 common beam is selected for all layers. In some embodiments, all layers may be grouped into more than one group. In some embodiments, the number of layer groups may be configured by the BS or predefined, for example, in 3GPP standards. The at least one layer group may be determined based on the number of layer groups.

[0117] In some embodiments, the beam selected for each layer group may be associated with a reference layer in the corresponding layer group. The beam for each remaining layer in the same layer group can be determined by a beam index offset. Therefore, in addition to indicating the selected beam for each layer group, the PMI may further indicate the beam index offset for each remaining layer in the corresponding layer group. In some embodiments, the beam for each remaining layer may be restricted in a specific spatial range. For example, the spatial range may be 0, 1, 2 or 3 beams, where the value ‘0’ denotes the same beam without a spatial offset. In this case, two bits is sufficient to report each beam index offset. Alternatively, a reference beam may be selected for each layer group and indicated by the PMI. The PMI may further indicate the beam index offset for each layer in the corresponding layer group. The beam for each layer recommended by the UE can be determined based on the corresponding beam index offset and the reference beam.

[0118] For example, based on the actual channel measurement, a UE may select a good beam and report an associated offset index (es) . If limited offset values (i.e., a combination of horizontal beam index offset and vertical beam index offset) are configured or predefined (e.g., in 3GPP standards) , the index of the selected offset values can be reported to save on CSI reporting overhead. This beam selection method (hereinafter "beam selection method #2-1" ) has a relatively worse beam selection flexibility, but with relatively small reporting overhead (e.g., the worst flexibility and the smallest overhead when the group number is 1) .

[0119] For example, the BS can configure the UE to report two reference beams. The UE may report, in the PMI, two beam indexes for the two reference beams as well as the offset value (s) relative to the index per layer (e.g., 2 bits per layer) . In some examples, the PMI may further indicate the associated reference beam for each layer (e.g., 1 bit per layer when the reference beam number is two) .

[0120] In some embodiments, the at least one layer group may be determined based on a mapping table, wherein each entry (row) of the mapping table associates a layer group with a corresponding beam. The mapping table can be configured by the BS for the UE (via RRC signaling) or be predefined. An exemplary mapping table is shown below for illustrative purposes. For example, based on the rank value (which is indicated by the RI) , the UE and the BS can determine how to divide the layers into the at least one layer group and the association between the selected beam and the corresponding layer group. This beam selection method is hereinafter referred to as "beam selection method #2-2" . Table 1: association between layers and beams

[0121] For beam selection method #2-2, one beam on two polarizations may be applicable to two layers in the same group. This allows the trade-off between beam selection flexibility and CSI reporting overhead to be achieved.

[0122] In some embodiments, beam selection methods #1, #2-1 and #2-2 can be combined to form beam selection method #3. For example, depending on the reported rank value (e.g., as indicated by the RI) , one of beam selection methods #1, #2-1 and #2-2 is employed. For example, in response to the reported rank value being equal to or smaller than a threshold (e.g., 4) , beam selection method #1 is employed; and in response to the reported rank value being greater than the threshold (e.g., 4) , beam selection method #2-1 or #2-2 is employed. This achieves good performance when the rank is relatively low and a trade-off between feedback overhead and beam selection flexibility can be achieved when the rank is relatively high. For example, for rank 1-4, beam selection method #1 is used, that is, the PMI indicates a single beam corresponding to a single orthogonal vector from the spatial domain basis matrix for each layer. For rank 5-8, beam selection method #2-1 or #2-2 is used, that is, the PMI indicates a single beam corresponding to a single orthogonal vector from the spatial domain basis matrix for each layer group.

[0123] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, for the unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, each layer has a respective linear combination coefficient matrix which indicates a plurality of linear combination coefficients and has a dimension based on a number of polarization directions and the number of vectors (i.e., N3 ) in the frequency domain basis matrix. For example,  for subband CSI reporting, where the dimension of is 2×N3 and Cl, i (i∈ {1, …, N3 } ) is the linear combination coefficient associated with ith subband and lth layer;  for wideband CSI reporting, where the dimension of  is 2×1 and Cl is the linear combination coefficient associated with lth layer. Cl,i or Cl is used for the linear combination of the received signal from two polarizations. Each linear combination coefficient can be quantized by phase. For example, a phase of each of the plurality of linear combination coefficients may be quantized based on a constant modulus alphabet set (e.g., QPSK set {1, -1, j, -j} or 8PSK) . The constant modulus alphabet set may be configured by the BS or predefined, for example, in 3GPP standards. Different quantization precision levels can be achieved by configuring different alphabet sets. Accordingly, the PMI reported by the UE may indicate the quantized phases of the plurality of linear combination coefficients for each layer.

[0124] The above unified Type1 codebook without a transform domain supports both wideband and subband CSI reporting. When used for subband reporting, a lower CSI reporting overhead can be achieved with a small number of subbands.

[0125] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a CJT codebook for a plurality of TRPs (e.g., N TRPs) configured for a UE can be determined by extending the foregoing embodiments for unified Type1 codebooks to each of the plurality of TRPs (e.g., N TRPs) . Accordingly, the PMI reported by the UE may indicate the precoding matrix for each TRP of the plurality of TRPs.

[0126] For example, a Type 1 CJT codebook can be represented by where is the codebook corresponding jth (j∈ {1, …, N} ) TRP. The descriptions on the spatial domain basis matrix W1, the linear combination coefficient matrix and the frequency domain basis matrix Wf in the foregoing embodiments can be similarly applied to the corresponding matrixes (i.e., W1, j,  Wf, j ) for each TRP. In some examples, the frequency domain basis matrix may be the same for N TRPs. This CJT codebook may be used for a system with a relatively small bandwidth and UEs with relatively low realization complexity.

[0127] For example, the descriptions on the unified Type 1 codebook with a transform domain can be applied to the corresponding matrixes (i.e., W1, j,  Wf, j) for each TRP. The restrictions on the number of beams selected per layer (e.g., L=1) and on the frequency basis per layer (e.g., M= 2 or 3) is also applied. For example, for each TRP, the PMI may indicate M orthogonal DFT vectors from the corresponding frequency domain basis matrix. The value of M may be configured by the BS to a value selected from a value set including at least 2 or 3 or may be predefined. For example, for each TRP, the PMI may indicate a single orthogonal DFT vector corresponding to a single beam from the corresponding spatial domain basis matrix. For example, for each TRP, the PMI may indicate a single orthogonal DFT vector corresponding to a single beam from the corresponding spatial domain basis matrix. For example, for each TRP, the PMI may indicate the quantized phase and amplitude of the plurality of linear combination coefficients from the corresponding linear combination coefficient matrix.

[0128] For example, based on the unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, the frequency domain basis matrix Wf, j for each TRP is a unit matrix (i.e.,  ) with a dimension of N3×N3 for subband CSI reporting or ‘1’ (i.e., a unit matrix having a dimension of one by one) for wideband CSI reporting.

[0129] For example, based on the unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, the spatial domain basis matrix W1, j for each TRP is a beam selection matrix that selects a single beam for each TRP per layer or per layer group. That is, for each layer or layer group, N beams each corresponding to a TRP are jointly selected. Accordingly, the PMI indicates the beam selection matrix for each TRP.

[0130] For example,  is the beam selection matrix for jth TRP. For example, N beams can be jointly selected per layer or per layer group with one beam for one TRP, where the N beams are from N1O1N2O2 oversampled beams or the restricted beam subset. Beam selection methods #1, #2-1, #2-2 and #3 can apply here. For the CJT codebook, an identical rank (i.e., RI value) may apply across all TRPs.

[0131] For example, based on the unified Type 1 codebook without a transform domain, the linear combination coefficient matrix for each TRP can be represented by where Cl, i, j, p is the linear combination coefficient associated with ith subband (i∈ {1, …, N3} ) , lth layer, jth TRP and pth (p∈ {1, 2} ) polarization direction. The linear combination coefficients can be quantized based on a PSK alphabet set (e.g., QPSK or 8PSK) . Accordingly, for each TRP, the PMI may indicate the quantized values of the plurality of linear combination coefficients.

[0132] In some embodiments, a differential feedback method may be applied to the linear combination coefficient matrix for each TRP. For example, one of the N TRPs may serve as a reference TRP. This reference TRP can be determined according to a predefined rule or can be configured by the BS. For example, the reference TPR may be associated with a predefined NZP CSI-RS resource (e.g., the first one in the sequence) in the configured CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. The differential value between each linear combination coefficient in the linear combination coefficient matrix for each remaining TRP and a corresponding linear combination coefficient in the linear combination coefficient matrix for the reference TRP is reported.

[0133] For example, assuming that the first TRP (i.e., j=1) serves as the reference TRP, then its linear combination coefficient matrix can be represented by For each remaining TRP, its linear combination coefficient matrix can be represented by where Cl, i, j, p can be derived by the reported differential value relative to Cl, i, 1, 0. Accordingly, for the first TRP (i.e., j=1) , the PMI may indicate the quantized values of the linear combination coefficients in the corresponding matrix; and for each remaining TRP, the PMI may indicate the differential values corresponding to the linear combination coefficients in the corresponding matrix.

[0134] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, by configuring or specifying the bases for the spatial domain, frequency domain and / or doppler domain, a UE can determine a corresponding codebook for a CSI report. For example, the values of L, M and Q in the unified codebook structure can be configured by a BS for a UE, or one or more of these values may be predefined, for example, in 3GPP standards, for generating a corresponding codebook for CSI reporting using the unified codebook structure. An exemplary configuration table for different codebooks under such unified structure is shown below. Table 2: Configurations for unified codebooks

[0135] It should be noted that the first column of Table 2 (e.g., codebook type names) is included merely for explanatory purposes, to facilitate understanding of the corresponding parameter values, and is not essential for the configurations and can be omitted. That is, based on the parameters in columns 2-4, a UE or a BS can determine the appropriate codebook, without referencing the specific codebook type names. In addition, the word "Unified" in the codebook type names merely indicates that the codebooks are determined according to the unified structure proposed in the present disclosure. These principles apply to the entire present disclosure.

[0136] Some parameters in Table 2 may be predefined, and thus can be omitted from the table. For example, for "Unified Type 1 codebook with transform domain" , the basis in the doppler domain can be predefined as ‘1’ . When a UE receives the configuration of the bases in the spatial and frequency domains for this codebook, it can determine that the basis in the doppler domain is ‘1’ based on the parameter values for the spatial and frequency domains. In some embodiments, more parameters may be added to Table 2. For example, the beam selection method (e.g., one of beam selection methods #1, #2-1, #2-2 and #3) may be configured by the network or predefined (e.g., in 3GPP standards) . For example, different quantization precision levels can be achieved by configuring different alphabet sets.

[0137] Although a unified codebook structure is described as it can be extended as with introducing a basis for the doppler domain. This extension, to which all foregoing embodiments apply, can facilitate the use of codebooks in high-speed scenarios.

[0138] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart of method 200 for wireless communication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. Details described in all of the foregoing embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in FIG. 2. In some examples, method 200 may be performed by a UE. In some embodiments, the UE may execute a set of instructions to control the functional elements of the UE to perform the described functions or operations. In some examples, a processor of the UE may cause the UE to perform method 200.

[0139] At 211, a UE may receive, from a BS, a codebook configuration for a codebook supporting at least one layer, wherein the codebook has a unified codebook structure based on a spatial domain basis matrix, a frequency domain basis matrix, and a linear combination coefficient matrix. At 213, the UE may determine a PMI for the codebook. At 215, the UE may transmit, to the BS, a CSI report including the PMI.

[0149] In some embodiments, the single beam is selected for a reference layer in a corresponding layer group of the at least one layer group, and the PMI further includes a beam index offset for each remaining layer in the corresponding layer group.

[0150] In some embodiments, the at least one layer group is determined based on a number of layer groups, which is configured by the BS or is predefined.

[0151] In some embodiments, the at least one layer group is determined based on a mapping table, each entry of the mapping table associating a layer group with a corresponding beam. In some embodiments, the mapping table is configured by the BS or is predefined.
