Abstract
Description
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCMCSTECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to communication between single cells with multi-carriers (SCMCs) .BACKGROUND
[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations (BSs) , which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication device, such as a base station, may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G)) .
[0003] With the development of communication, frequencies may be more scattered, and more than one scattered spectrum of the same / different bandwidths (s) can be aggregated into one hypercell, which can be called a SCMC. However, regarding the communication between SCMCs, there are still some issues to be addressed.SUMMARY

[0098] FIG. 1A illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100A that supports communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100A may include one or more network entities 102 (also referred to as network equipment) , one or more UEs 104, a core network 106, and a packet data network 108. The wireless communications system 100A may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100A may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100A may be a 5G network, such as an NR network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100A may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100A may support radio access technologies beyond 5G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100A may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.
[0099] The one or more network entities 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100A. One or more of the network entities 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a radio access network (RAN) , a base transceiver station, an access point, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. A network entity 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link 110, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.
[0100] A network entity 102 may provide a geographic coverage area 112 for which the network entity 102 may support services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area 112. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network. In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 112 may be associated with different network entities 102. Information and signals described herein may be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits, symbols, and chips that may be referenced throughout the description may be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.
[0101] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100A. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a remote unit, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples. In some implementations, a UE 104 may be stationary in the wireless communications system 100A. In some other implementations, a UE 104 may be mobile in the wireless communications system 100A.
[0102] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in FIG. 1A. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the core network 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in FIG. 1A. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100A.
[0103] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.
[0104] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .
[0105] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.
[0106] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU)) .
[0107] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., RRC, service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.
[0108] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .
[0109] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.
[0110] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as registration management, mobility management, connection management, access authentication / authorization, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.
[0111] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an N6, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a PDU session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .
[0112] In the wireless communications system 100A, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100A (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.
[0113] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100A, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.
[0114] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.
[0115] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100A. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.
[0116] In the wireless communications system 100A, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100A may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.
[0117] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.
[0118] In 6G, frequencies may be more scattered. For example, there may be some carriers re-farmed from 2G or 4G networks, and their bandwidths may vary, ranging from less than 20 MHz to 50 MHz, or even larger. If each carrier with a small bandwidth is managed separately, it will bring significant overhead (e.g., handover signalling overhead, common signalling overhead, etc. ) . Therefore, a unified, efficient, and simple spectrum aggregation framework is in demand. At least the following requirements are to be considered: energy saving for the network and / or UEs, efficient spectrum aggregation with low signalling overhead, efficient offloading for UEs in all RRC states, and flexible adaptation to the traffic load of network and / or UEs.
[0119] One of the solutions is that more than one scattered spectrum of the same / different bandwidths can be aggregated into one hyper cell, which can be called SCMC, as shown in FIG. 1B. The SCMC can be used to address the fragmented spectrum utilization, energy saving paging load, and load balance for the random access channel (RACH) resource among multiple carriers.
[0120] The SCMC may have different carrier types. Carrier Type 1 is a DL carrier, and the paging message is transmitted in this carrier. It may be noted as an anchor carrier. Carrier Type 2 is a DL carrier, and at least a minimum SI, e.g., SIB1, is transmitted in this carrier. It may be noted as an anchor carrier. Carrier Type 3 is a DL carrier, and the paging message and minimum system information (SI) , e.g., SIB1, are not transmitted in this carrier. Other system information may be scheduled in this carrier. It may be noted as an anchor carrier.
[0121] Carrier Type 4 is a DL carrier, and the DL carrier is associated with one UL carrier in which the RACH resource is configured. Carrier Type 5 is a DL carrier that is associated with one UL carrier in which the RACH resource is not configured. Carrier Type 6 is a DL carrier that is not associated with any UL carrier.
[0122] Within one hypercell, multiple carriers can be aggregated. Some features of 6G hypercell can be listed below.
[0123] The common signalling can mainly be transmitted in an anchor carrier to reduce the signalling overhead and achieve network energy saving. What’s more, if only the anchor carrier is on the synchronization raster, the number of frequencies that the UE attempts to search will be significantly reduced, thereby enabling energy saving for the UE as well.
[0124] With multi-carriers available, the capacity of one hypercell becomes scalable and can be adjusted based on the latest system overhead. To be specific, when the hypercell serves very few users, only the anchor carrier is activated. With the increase in the number of UEs served by this hyper cell, more carriers can be activated to ensure service performance for UEs. The dynamic carrier activation / deactivation can be achieved with simple signalling, e.g., a medium access control element (MAC CE) .
[0125] For non-anchor carrier (s) , the network can either offload the RACH procedures of some UEs in RRC_IDLE to it / them to improve the capacity of RACH, or offload the data transmission of UEs in RRC_CONNECTED to it / them to ensure the QoS / QoE of UEs.
[0126] Flexible UL / DL coupling can be achieved to adapt to the service characteristics of UEs. As shown in FIG. 1C, for different UL / DL traffic load of one hyper cell, a different UL and DL carrier association scheme is adopted. To be specific, when the DL traffic load is heavy at moment 1, more carriers can be configured as DL carriers. After a period of time (i.e., moment 2) , the UL traffic load becomes heavier than DL, and more carriers can be configured as UL carriers.
[0127] Therefore, the SCMC framework not only improves spectrum utilization efficiency but also provides a foundation for achieving more refined network optimization functions, such as mobility load balancing and coverage and capacity optimization (CCO) .
[0128] In 5G, the mobility load balancing is supported. The objective of mobility load balancing is to distribute load evenly among cells and among areas of cells, or to transfer part of the traffic from congested cells or from congested areas of cells, or to offload users from one cell, cell area, carrier, or radio access technologies (RATs) to achieve network energy saving. This can be done by means of optimization of cell reselection / handover parameters and handover actions. Firstly, the load reporting function is executed by exchanging load information over the Xn / F1 interface. The load information consists of: radio resource usage (per cell PRB usage) , cell capacity class value, and per cell capability value. Secondly, the source cell can request a change of handover and / or reselection parameters at the target cell.
[0129] For mobility load balancing, the load information currently exchanged between RAN nodes is based on either a per-cell or per-synchronization signal block (SSB) area granularity. However, for an SCMC that supports multiple carriers, the method for representing its load information remains an unresolved issue that requires further specification.
[0130] In addition, in 5G, the objective of NR CCO is to detect and resolve or mitigate CCO issues, e.g., coverage and cell edge interference issues. A gNB may autonomously adjust within and switch between coverage configurations. When a change is executed, the gNB may notify its neighbor gNB with the list of cells and SSBs with modified coverage included. The neighbor gNB may adopt coverage configurations matching the receiving cells'coverage configurations.
[0131] For CCO, the coverage adjustment is currently performed on a per-cell or per-SSB granularity. However, for an SCMC that supports multiple carriers, a mechanism for per-carrier coverage adjustment within an SCMC is to be supported.
[0132] In view of the above discussions, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for communication between SCMCs. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a first base station transmits, to a second base station, a request to measure a type of load information of an SCMC served by the second base station. The type of the load information comprises at least one of the following: cell-level load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, per-carrier load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier of the SCMC, or load information of a carrier of the SCMC. Then the first base station receives, from the second base station, a message associated with the type of load information of the SCMC requested by the first base station.
[0133] In another aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a first base station determines to modify a configuration of carrier coverage of an SCMC. Then the first base station transmits, to a second base station, state information of the carrier coverage associated with a modification of the configuration. The state information comprises a carrier coverage state of a carrier of the SCMC.
[0134] In this way, multiple types of load information of the SCMC and state information of the carrier coverage associated with a modification of the configuration may be transferred between the base stations. Thus, the efficiency of the communications is improved. Principles and implementations of embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 2-12.
[0135] FIG. 2 illustrates a first example signaling chart illustrating an example process that supports communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 200 may involve a first base station 201 and a second base station 202. It would be appreciated that although the process 200 is applied in the communication environment 100A of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.
[0136] In process 200, the first base station 201 transmits 210, to the second base station 202, a request 215 to measure a type of load information of an SCMC served by the second base station 202. The type of the load information comprises cell-level load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, per-carrier load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier of the SCMC, load information of a carrier of the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.
[0137] In other words, a specific type of load information of the SCMC may be requested. In the first example, the request 215 may be a request for the cell-level load information of the SCMC. In the second example, the request 215 may be a request for the load information of the anchor carrier and the load information of all non-anchor carriers of the SCMC. It is to be understood that the number of the anchor carrier (s) and the number of the non-anchor carrier (s) is not limited herein and can be one or more.
[0138] In the third example, the request 215 may be a request for the per-carrier load information for the SCMC. Per-carrier load information for the SCMC refers to the individual load information of all carriers in the SCMC.
[0139] In the fourth example, the request 215 may be a request for the load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC only.
[0140] In the fifth example, the request 215 may be a request for the load information of a specific carrier of the SCMC. In this case, the ARFCN of the specific carrier may also be provided.
[0141] In addition, the first base station 201 and the second base station 202 may be base stations (e.g., gNB) connected by Xn or Xn-like interface. In case of a central unit (CU) -distributed unit (DU) split, the first base station 201 may be the CU while the second base station 202 may be the DU, which are connected by F1 or F1-like interface.
[0142] Correspondingly, the second base station 202 receives 220, from the first base station 201, the request 215 to measure a type of load information of an SCMC served by the second base station 202.
[0143] Alternatively or additionally, the request 215 may further indicate at least one measurement object corresponding to a requested type of the load information, an ID of a measurement for a requested type of the load information, or a combination of the above two items.
[0144] In addition, the at least one measurement object may comprise a PRB usage corresponding to the requested type of the load information, CAC corresponding to the requested type of the load information, an indication of load status corresponding to the requested type of the load information, the number of at least one inactive UE associated with the requested type of the load information, or any combination of two or more of above-mentioned items.
[0145] For instance, the at least one measurement object may comprise the radio resource status, i.e., the PRB usage corresponding to the type of load information of the SCMC. In an example, if the requested type of load information is the per-carrier granularity, this measurement object represents the PRB usage for each individual carrier of the SCMC.
[0146] The CAC indicates the overall available resource level of the SCMC corresponding to the requested load information type.
[0147] The indication of load status is the generic load information per requested type of load information. For example, the load status may be a high, medium, or low load indication for the type of load information of the SCMC.
[0148] With continued reference to FIG. 2, the second base station 202 transmits 225, to the first base station 201, a message 230 associated with the type of load information of the SCMC requested by the first base station 201.
[0149] For example, when receiving the request from the first base station 201, the second base station 202 may initiate the corresponding measurement and trigger the transmission of the message 230.
[0150] In some embodiments, if the type of the load information is the cell-level load information of the SCMC, the PRB usage may comprise a total PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a total UL PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a total DL PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a UL GBR PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a DL GBR PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a UL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC, a DL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of all carriers in the SCMC.
[0151] In an example, the cell-level load information may consider the PRB usage ratio in all supporting carriers of the SCMC, and it can be an integer value from 0 to 100. If the value of the PRB usage ratio is 50, it means that 50%PRB in all supported carriers of the SCMC has been utilized.
[0152] In another example, the cell-level load information may consider the PRB usage ratio in all DL / UL supported carriers of the SCMC.
[0153] In yet another example, the cell-level load information may consider the GBR PRB usage ratio in all DL / UL supported carriers of the SCMC.
[0154] In a further example, the cell-level load information may consider the non-GBR PRB usage ratio in all DL / UL supported carriers of the SCMC.
[0155] In addition, if the type of the load information is the cell-level load information of the SCMC, the CAC may comprise an amount of available resource of all carriers of the SCMC relative to the total resource of the SCMC, an amount of UL available resource of all carriers of the SCMC relative to the total resource of the SCMC, an amount of DL available resource of all carriers of the SCMC relative to the total resource of the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.
[0156] In an example, the cell-level load information of the SCMC may indicate the amount of the resource of all supporting carriers of the SCMC that are available relative to the total resource, and it can be an integer value from 0 to 100. If the value is 0, it indicates no available capacity. If the value is 100, it indicates maximum available capability with respect to the whole cell.
[0157] In another example, the cell-level load information of the SCMC may indicate the amount of the resource of all UL / DL supporting carriers of the SCMC that are available relative to the total resource.
[0158] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the cell-level load information of the SCMC, the indication of load status comprises a total load level of all carriers in the SCMC.
[0159] In an example, the indication of load status may indicate generic load information of all supporting carriers of the SCMC. The generic load information, i.e., the total load level of all carriers in the SCMC, may be high, medium, or low.
[0160] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the cell-level load information of the SCMC, the number of at least one inactive UE comprises a total number of at least one inactive UE served by all carriers in the SCMC.
[0161] In some embodiments, if the type of the load information is the load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, the PRB usage may comprise a PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a UL PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a UL PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a DL PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a DL PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a UL GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a UL GBR PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a DL GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a DL GBR PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a UL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a UL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, a DL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a DL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.
[0162] In other words, the load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC may include both the PRB usage ratio for the anchor carrier and the PRB usage ratio for all non-anchor carriers of the SCMC. These PRB usage ratios may be further provided per UL, per DL, per GBR, or per non-GBR, respectively.
[0163] In addition, if the type of the load information is the load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, the CAC may comprise an amount of available resource of the anchor carrier relative to total resource of the anchor carrier, an amount of available resource of the non-anchor carriers relative to total resource of the non-anchor carriers, or a combination of above two items. Additionally, the anchor carriers of the SCMC refer to all anchor carriers of the SCMC.
[0164] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, the indication of load status may comprise a load level of the anchor carrier of the SCMC and a load level of all the non-anchor carriers of the SCMC.

The generic load information, i.e., the load level of the anchor carrier or all non-anchor carriers in the SCMC, may be high, medium, or low.
[0166] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, the number of at least one inactive UE may comprise the number of at least one inactive UE served by the anchor carrier in the SCMC and the number of at least one inactive UE served by the non-anchor carriers in the SCMC.

[0168] In other words, the per-carrier load information may comprise the PRB usage ratio of each carrier of the SCMC. The PRB usage ratio may be further provided per UL, per DL, per GBR, or per non-GBR, respectively. For each carrier, the corresponding ARFCN of each carrier may also be included.
[0169] In addition, if the type of the load information is the per-carrier load information of the SCMC, the CAC may comprise an amount of available resource of each carrier of the SCMC relative to the total resource of each carrier in the SCMC, an amount of available resource of each carrier of the SCMC relative to the total resource of all carriers in the SCMC, or a combination of the above two items.
[0170] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the per-carrier load information of the SCMC, the indication of load status may comprise load levels of carriers in the SCMC.
[0171] In an example, the indication of load status may indicate generic load information of each carrier of the SCMC. The generic load information, i.e., the load level of the each carrier in the SCMC, may be high, medium, or low.
[0172] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the per-carrier load information of the SCMC, the number of at least one inactive UE may comprise numbers of at least one inactive UE served by carriers in the SCMC.
[0173] In some embodiments, if the type of the load information is the load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, the PRB usage may comprise a PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a UL PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a DL PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a UL GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a DL GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a UL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, a DL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.
[0174] In other words, the type of load information may include the PRB usage ratio for the anchor carrier of the SCMC only. The PRB usage ratio may be further provided per UL, per DL, per GBR or per non-GBR, respectively.
[0175] In addition, if the type of the load information is the load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, the CAC may comprise an amount of available resource of the anchor carrier of the SCMC relative to the total resource of the anchor carrier.
[0176] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, the indication of load status may comprise a load level of the anchor carrier of the SCMC.
[0177] In an example, the indication of load status may indicate generic load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC. The generic load information, i.e., the load level of the anchor carrier in the SCMC, may be high, medium, or low.
[0178] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of the anchor carrier of the SCMC, the number of at least one inactive UE may comprise the number of at least one inactive UE served by the anchor carrier in the SCMC.
[0179] In some embodiments, if the type of the load information is the load information of a carrier of the SCMC, the PRB usage may comprise a PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a UL PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a DL PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a UL GBR PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a DL GBR PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a UL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, a DL non-GBR PRB usage ratio of the carrier in the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.
[0180] In other words, the type of load information may include the PRB usage ratio for a specific carrier of the SCMC. The PRB usage ratio may be further provided per UL, per DL, per GBR, or per non-GBR, respectively. For the specific carrier, the corresponding ARFCN of the carrier may also be included.
[0181] In addition, if the type of the load information is the load information of a carrier of the SCMC, the CAC may comprise an amount of available resource of the carrier of the SCMC relative to total resource of the carrier, an amount of available resource of the carrier of the SCMC relative to total resource of all carriers in the SCMC, or a combination of above two items.
[0182] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of a carrier of the SCMC, the indication of load status may comprise a load level of a carrier of the SCMC.
[0183] In an example, the indication of load status may indicate generic load information of the specific carrier of the SCMC. The generic load information, i.e., the load level of the specific carrier in the SCMC, may be high, medium, or low.
[0184] Additionally, if the type of the load information is the load information of a carrier of the SCMC, the number of at least one inactive UE may comprise the number of inactive UEs served by a carrier of the SCMC.
[0185] In addition, the message 230 may comprise at least one measured quality metric of at least one measurement object corresponding to the type of the load information. The second base station 202 may transmit the message 230 by transmitting at least one measured quality metric of at least one measurement object corresponding to the type of the load information.
[0186] For example, the second base station 202 may trigger the transmission of a resource state report including at least one measured quality metric of the target object corresponding to the requested type of load information to the first base station 201.
[0187] Alternatively or additionally, in order to transmit the at least one measured quality metric, if one of the at least one measured quality metric is greater than a threshold, the first base station 201 may transmit one of the at least one measured quality metric.
[0188] For example, the second base station 202 may initiate the transmission of a resource state report to the first base station 201 according to a configured threshold. If the measured quality of the target object corresponding to the requested type of load information is higher than the threshold, the second base station 202 may trigger the reporting procedure.
[0189] In addition, the first base station 201 may transmit the at least one measured quality metric via a resource status response. For example, if the request 215 is a one-short request, the reporting of at least one measured quality metric may be in the resource status response message.
[0190] Additionally, the first base station 201 may transmit the at least one measured quality metric via a resource status update message periodically. For example, if the request 215 is a request for periodical reporting, the reporting of the at least one measured quality metric may be in the resource status update message.
[0191] In some alternative embodiments, if a measurement for the requested type of the load information is not able to start, the message 230 may be a resource status failure message with a failure cause of measuring the type of the load information. The second base station 202 may transmit the message by transmitting a resource status failure message with a failure cause of measuring the type of the load information.
[0192] For example, if the second base station 202 is not able to start the measurement for load reporting of the requested type, the second base station 202 may respond with the resource status failure message with a cause such as “measurement for the requested type is not available or not supported” .
[0193] With continued reference to FIG. 2, the first base station 201 receives 235, from the second base station 202, the message 230 associated with the type of load information of the SCMC requested by the first base station.
[0194] In some embodiments, the message 230 may comprise at least one measured quality metric of at least one measurement object corresponding to the type of the load information. The first base station 201 may receive the message 230 by receiving at least one measured quality metric of at least one measurement object corresponding to the requested type of the load information.
[0195] In some alternative embodiments, the message 230 may be a resource status failure message with a failure cause of measuring the type of the load information. The first base station 201 may receive the message 230 by receiving a resource status failure message with a failure cause of measuring the type of the load information.
[0196] With process 200, multiple types of load information of the SCMC may be transferred between the first base station 201 and the second base station 202, and the communication security has been improved.
[0197] FIG. 3 illustrates an example process of the communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 300 may involve RAN node1 301 and RAN node2 302. The process 300 may be considered as an example implementation of the process 200. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 2. The RAN node1 301 may be an example of the first base station 201 in FIG. 2. The RAN node2 302 may be an example of the second base station 202 in FIG. 2.
[0198] In the process 300, at 310, the RAN node1 301 sends the resource status request message to the RAN node2 302 to request to measure the load information of the SCMC served by the RAN node2 302. For example, the resource status request message may request the type of load information for an SCMC.
[0199] The resource status request message corresponds to the request 215 in process 200. Details of the resource status request message will not be repeated here.
[0200] In addition, the RAN node1 301 may also provide the RAN node measurement ID, which is allocated by RAN node 1 301 to identify the measurement to the RAN node2 302.
[0201] When receiving the resource status request message from the RAN node1 301, the RAN node2 302 may initiate the corresponding measurement and transmit a resource status report to the RAN node1 301.
[0202] The resource status report may comprise the cell-level load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier and non-anchor carriers of the SCMC, per-carrier load information of the SCMC, load information of an anchor carrier of the SCMC, load information of a carrier of the SCMC, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.
[0203] The resource status report corresponds to the message 230 associated with the type of load information of the SCMC in process 200. Details of the resource status report will not be repeated here.
[0204] The resource status report may be transmitted via a resource status response message or a resource status update message.
[0205] At 320, the RAN node2 302 transmits the resource status report to the RAN node 1 301 via a resource status response message in the case that the resource status request message is a one-short request.
[0206] At 330, the RAN node2 302 may transmit the resource status report to the RAN node 1 301 via a resource status update message in the case that the resource status request message is a periodical reporting request.
[0207] FIG. 4 illustrates a second example signaling chart illustrating an example process that supports communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 400 may involve a first base station 401 and a second base station 402. It would be appreciated that although the process 400 is applied in the communication environment 100A of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.
[0208] In process 400, the first base station 401 determines 410 to modify a configuration of carrier coverage of an SCMC. The carriers of the SCMC may be configured with alternative coverage configurations by operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM) . The first base station 401 may autonomously adjust the carrier coverage within the coverage configurations.
[0209] Then the first base station 401 transmits 415, to the second base station 402, state information of the carrier coverage 420 associated with a modification of the configuration. The state information comprises a carrier coverage state of a carrier of the SCMC. In an example, the first base station 401 may notify the second base station 402 with a list of carriers of the SCMC with modified coverage included.
[0210] In other words, the modification of the configuration is the per-carrier coverage adjustment of the SCMC. In some embodiments, the carrier may comprise an anchor carrier of the SCMC. The carrier may also be any other serving carrier of the SCMC.
[0211] Alternatively or additionally, the carrier coverage state of the carrier may be indicated by a first value, and the first value indicates the configuration of the carrier coverage of the carrier.
[0212] For example, the carrier coverage state may be an integer value to indicate the coverage configurations of the carrier configured by the OAM. The carrier may be identified by an ARFCN or an index.
[0213] In some embodiments, the state information may further comprise a global cell ID of the SCMC, an indication of whether a cell comprising the carrier is a normal cell or a SCMC, a second value indicating energy saving state of the carrier of the SCMC, a cause of modifying the configuration of the carrier coverage, an index of the carrier, an ARFCN of the carrier, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.
[0214] In an example, the second value may be an integer value indicating the energy saving state of an active carrier of the SCMC. In a further example, the second value may be an integer value indicating a deep sleep mode (e.g., with long DTX / DRX duration) , or a light sleep mode (e.g., with short DTX / DRX duration) of an active carrier of the SCMC.
[0215] In some embodiments, the cause may comprise cell coverage, cell edge capacity, network energy saving, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.
[0216] In addition, the first base station 401 may use artificial intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) to predict CCO issues and the corresponding future carrier coverage states of the SCMC.
[0217] In some embodiments, the state information may further comprise the future carrier coverage state of a carrier of the SCMC. The future carrier coverage state may be an integer value to indicate the coverage configurations of the carrier configured by the OAM. The carrier can be the anchor carrier or any other serving carrier of the SCMC. The carrier can be identified by ARFCN or an index.
[0218] Additionally, the future carrier coverage state may comprise a global cell ID of the SCMC, an indication of whether a cell comprising the carrier is a normal cell or a SCMC, future carrier coverage state of the carrier of the SCMC, time of the future carrier coverage state applied by the first base station, a confidence level of the future carrier coverage state, an index of the carrier, an ARFCN of the carrier, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.
[0219] For example, the confidence level of the future carrier coverage state may indicate the accuracy of the predicted carrier coverage state or the probability of the predicted carrier coverage state.
[0220] With continued reference to FIG. 2, after receiving 425 the state information of carrier coverage 420 of an SCMC from the first base station 401, the second base station 402 performs 430 an adjustment operation associated with the carrier coverage based on the state information.
[0221] For example, when the second base station 402 receives the state information of carrier coverage 420, it may adopt coverage configurations matching the neighbouring SCMC’s carrier coverage configuration. The second base station 402 may also use the state information for mobility robustness optimization.
[0222] In some embodiments, if the cause is network energy saving, and the second value of the carrier coverage state indicates that the carrier is inactive, in order to perform the adjustment operation, the second base station 402 may determine to handover at least one UE to the carrier. Then the second base station 402 may transmit, to the first base station 401, a first request to activate the carrier.
[0223] In an example, if the cause is set to “network energy saving” , and the second value of the carrier coverage state is set to a specific value, e.g., value 0, to implicitly indicate it as “inactive” or an explicit indication indicate it as “inactive” , the second base station 402 may treat the carrier of the SCMC is inactive.
[0224] In a further example, the second base station 402 may request to activate the inactive carrier of the SCMC by sending a cell activation request message, e.g., when the second base station 402 tends to handover some UEs to the inactive carrier. The requested carrier’s ARFCN or carrier index is included in the cell activation request message.
[0225] Correspondingly, the first base station 401 may further receive, from the second base station 402, the first request to activate the carrier.
[0226] Additionally, the first base station 401 may activate the carrier based on the first request.
[0227] Alternatively, the first base station 401 may transmit, to the second base station 402, a reject message of activating the carrier. For example, the first base station 401 may reject the first request for activation, e.g., based on its own decision.
[0228] Correspondingly, the second base station 402 may receive, from the first base station, a reject message of activating the carrier.
[0229] In some embodiments, if the cause is network energy saving, the second value indicates that the carrier is in a first sleep state, and a duration of the first sleep state is larger than a threshold, the second base station 402 may transmit, to the first base station 401, a second request to change the carrier from the first sleep state to a second sleep state. The duration of the second sleep state is less than the threshold. Correspondingly, the first base station 401 may receive the second request from the second base station 402.
[0230] For example, the first sleep state may be a deep sleep mode, and the second sleep state may be the light sleep. In a further example, the energy saving state may be set to another specific value, e.g., “1” or “deep sleep” .
[0231] In addition, the second base station 402 may also request to switch the energy state of the carrier of the SCMC, e.g., from “deep sleep” to “light sleep” , by sending a cell activation request message.
[0232] Alternatively or additionally, in order to perform the adjustment operation, the second base station 402 may use the future carrier coverage state information to identify the future carrier deployment configuration of the SCMC at a time indicated by the time for future coverage state.
[0233] With process 400, state information of the carrier coverage associated with a modification of the configuration may be transferred between the first base station 401 and the second base station 402, and the communication security has been improved.
[0234] FIG. 5 illustrates an example process of the communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 500 may involve RAN node1 501 and RAN node2 502. The process 500 may be considered as an example implementation of the process 400. For the purpose of discussion, the process 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 4. The RAN node1 501 may be an example of the first base station 401 in FIG. 4. The RAN node2 502 may be an example of the second base station 402 in FIG. 4.
[0235] In the process 500, at 510, the RAN node1 501 notifies its neighbor RAN node, i.e., the RAN node2 502, using the RAN node configuration update message with a list of carriers of the SCMC with modified coverage included. The list contains the CGI of SCMC and the ARFCN or carrier index of each modified carrier with carrier coverage state information.
[0236] The RAN node configuration update message with a list of carriers of the SCMC corresponds to the state information of carrier coverage of a SCMC 415 in process 400. Details of the resource status request message will not be repeated here.
[0237] At 520, the RAN node2 502 transmits a RAN node configuration update acknowledge message to the RAN node1 501.
[0238] FIG. 6 illustrates an example process of the communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 600 may involve RAN node1 601 and RAN node2 602. The process 600 may be considered as an example implementation of the process 400. For the purpose of discussion, the process 600 will be described with reference to FIG. 4. The RAN node1 601 may be an example of the first base station 401 in FIG. 4. The RAN node2 602 may be an example of the second base station 402 in FIG. 4.
[0239] In the process 600, at 610, the RAN node1 601 notifies its neighbor RAN node, i.e., the RAN node2 502, using the RAN node configuration update message.
[0240] At 620, the RAN node2 602 transmits a RAN node configuration update acknowledge message to the RAN node1 601.
[0241] If the carrier coverage modification cause is set to “network energy saving” , and the carrier coverage state is set to a specific value, e.g., value 0, to implicitly indicate it as ‘inactive’ or an explicit indication as ‘inactive’ , the RAN node 2 may treat the carrier of the SCMC as inactive. In another example, the energy saving state could be set to another specific value, e.g., “1” or “deep sleep” . The deep sleep can be the energy saving state with a long DTX / DRX pattern.
[0242] At 630, the RAN node2 602 may transmit a cell activation request message to the RAN node1 601 to activate the inactive carrier of the SCMC.
[0243] The RAN node1 601 may activate the carrier of the SCMC accordingly. Alternatively, the RAN node1 601 may reject the request for the activation of the carrier.
[0244] At 640, the RAN node1 601 transmits a cell activation response message to the RAN node2 602.
[0245] FIG. 7 illustrates an example of a device 700 that supports communication between SCMCs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 700 may be an example of a network entity 102 or a UE 104 as described herein. The device 700 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 700 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 702, a memory 704, a transceiver 706, and, optionally, an I / O controller 708. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .
