[0004] “Fabric softener composition”
[0005] The present invention relates to a fabric softener composition, a method for increasing the fragrance intensity on textiles and the use of the fabric softener composition according to the invention for increasing the fragrance intensity on textiles.
[0006] Fabric softeners are used to prevent the stiffness that occurs when laundry dries, a phenomenon caused by the formation of electrostatic hydrogen bonds between cellulose fibers. Today, cationic surfactants, particularly quaternary ammonium compounds known as esterquats, are typically used to counteract this effect. These cationic surfactants penetrate the fibers of the laundry, bind to the negatively charged areas, and thereby weaken the interactions.
[0007] Fabric softeners are intended not only to make textiles soft, but also to give laundry a long-lasting, fresh scent that the consumer can appreciate. This requires very high perfume concentrations in the fabric softener. However, a high perfume concentration often results in a fragrance intensity that is off-putting to consumers. At the same time, this increases raw material costs, reduces the phase stability of the fabric softener composition, and can increase potential allergy risks.
[0008] One objective of the present application was therefore to provide fabric softener compositions that create and convey a fresh scent to the consumer on washed and dry laundry for as long as possible, while avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages.
[0009] It was surprisingly found that this task is solved by a fabric softener composition, comprehensively, each in relation to the total weight of the composition:
[0010] i. 0.025 to 0.8 wt% fragrance microcapsules containing at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea, protein, lipids, polyurethanes, silica and polysaccharide or mixtures thereof,
[0011] ii. 0.0005 to 0.02 wt% cellulase,
[0012] iii. at least 2.0 wt% textile softening ingredients from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds.
[0013] The composition according to the invention contains 0.025 to 0.8 wt% fragrance microcapsules comprising at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea, protein, lipids, polyurethanes, silica, and polysaccharide, or mixtures thereof. Preferably, the ingredient is from the group consisting of polyurea, gelatin, caseinate, casein, 2025P00050WQ
[0014] 2
[0015] Lipids, polyurethanes, silica, cellulose, maltodextrin and gum arabic or mixtures thereof. Particularly preferred is at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea and silica or mixtures thereof, especially polyurea.
[0016] If the fragrance microcapsules are of the core-shell type, the shell material preferably comprises at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea, protein, lipids, polyurethanes, silica, and polysaccharide, or mixtures thereof. Preferably, it comprises at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea, gelatin, caseinate, casein, lipids, polyurethanes, silica, cellulose, maltodextrin, and gum arabic, or mixtures thereof. Particularly preferably, it comprises at least one ingredient from the group consisting of polyurea and silica, or mixtures thereof, especially polyurea.
[0017] The fragrance microcapsules are preferably one or more of the commercially available capsules such as PlanetCaps (Givaudan), MechaCaps (Givaudan), ScentiCaps (Givaudan), Symcaps (Symrise), PopScent (Firmenich) and PopStar (IFF).
[0018] Among the perfume microcapsules claimed, those that demonstrate the biodegradability required by authorities and desired by consumers are preferred.
[0019] Accordingly, it is preferred if the perfume microcapsules contain less than 50 wt.% polymers from the group consisting of melamine-formaldehyde, polyacrylate, polystyrene, polyolefin, polyethylene, polyamides, polycarbonates, polyesters, vinyl polymers, epoxy resins or mixtures thereof, preferably less than 40 wt.%, particularly preferably less than 30 wt.%, particularly preferably less than 20 wt.%, and most preferably less than 10 wt.%, based on the total weight of the perfume microcapsules.
[0020] It is also preferred that the fragrance microcapsules have an average size of less than 100 pm, preferably 10 to 60 pm, particularly preferably 20 to 50 pm, and especially 25 to 45 pm. A person skilled in the art knows suitable methods for determining the average particle size, such as static laser light scattering.
[0021] The composition according to the invention preferably contains the fragrance microcapsules in an amount of 0.055 to 0.55 wt.%, particularly preferably 0.08 to 0.4 wt.%, and especially preferably 0.135 to 0.25 wt.%, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.
[0022] The composition according to the invention also contains cellulase. In the compositions according to the invention, cellulase is preferably used in the form of a cellulase preparation, particularly preferably in the form of a liquid cellulase preparation. Various preparations from different manufacturers are suitable, including, among others, Biotouch FCL 275 from AB Enzymes and Carezyme Elite 100L from Novozymes.
[0023] 3
[0024] Cellulase is used in the compositions according to the invention in an amount of 0.0005 to 0.02 wt.%, based on the total weight of the composition. Preferably, the compositions according to the invention contain cellulase in an amount of 0.001 to 0.009 wt.%, more preferably 0.0012 to 0.005%, and particularly preferably 0.0017 to 0.003 wt.%, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.

[0051] The microcapsules also contain a dispersed perfume. Within the scope of this application, a dispersed perfume is to be understood as a perfume oil and / or a fragrance preparation that is not in encapsulated form, but instead is freely dispersed in the composition. Therefore, compositions containing at least one dispersed perfume are preferred, preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 3.0 wt.%, particularly preferably 0.3 to 2.0 wt.%, and especially preferably 0.5 to 1.5 wt.%, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.
[0052] The pH of the composition can be adjusted to a preferred range or value using acids and bases. The pH of the composition according to the invention is preferably in the range of 1.5 to 4.5, more preferably from 2.0 to 3.5, measured at 20 °C.

[0062] 7
[0063] and mixtures thereof. It is particularly preferred if the composition according to the invention contains less than 0.3 wt.%, preferably less than 0.1 wt.%, and most preferably less than 0.05 wt.%, surfactants from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof.
[0064] Another task was to provide processes that create and convey a fresh scent to the consumer on washed and dry laundry for as long as possible, while avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages.
[0065] The problem is solved by a process in which the compositions according to the invention are supplied.
[0066] Another object is therefore a method for enhancing the fragrance impression on textiles, wherein the method is carried out at least partially in a washing machine and a composition according to one of the preceding claims is added. Methods in which the composition is added to the textile during the rinse cycle are preferred.
[0067] According to the invention, methods comprising several steps are also preferred: i. Inserting textiles into the drum of a washing machine,
[0068] ii. Introducing a composition according to the invention into the washing machine, iii. Optionally introducing a textile cleaning composition into the washing machine,
[0069] iv. Performing a washing program comprises the following steps
[0070] a. Optionally, a cleaning cycle in which the textile cleaning composition from step iii) is added to the rinsing liquor, b. a rinsing cycle in which the composition according to the invention from step ii) is added to the rinsing liquor,
[0071] where steps i. to iii. can be performed in any order.
[0072] In a further embodiment, the method according to the invention is supplemented by one or more steps that take place outside the washing machine. It is preferred that the textile dries or is dried, preferably at room temperature and / or in a tumble dryer.
[0073] Another preferred subject matter of the invention is therefore methods comprising several steps:
[0074] i. Placing textiles in the drum of a washing machine,
[0075] ii. Introducing a composition according to the invention into the washing machine, iii. Optionally introducing a textile cleaning composition into the washing machine,
[0076] iv. Performing a washing program comprising the following steps 2025P00050WQ
[0077] 8
[0078] a. Optionally, a cleaning cycle in which the textile cleaning composition from step iii) is added to the rinsing liquor, b. a rinsing cycle in which the composition according to the invention from step ii) is added to the rinsing liquor,
[0079] v. Drying the textiles, preferably at room temperature and / or in a tumble dryer, whereby steps i. to iii. can be carried out in any order.
[0080] The "insertion" as used in the invention relates to placing, inserting, or pouring the aforementioned items into the washing machine. This includes the usual locations, such as placing textiles into the drum of the washing machine and / or inserting or pouring solid or liquid textile cleaning solutions into the appropriate compartment of the detergent drawer of the washing machine. Textile cleaning solutions in solid, liquid, and / or pre-portioned form can also be placed into the drum of the washing machine, optionally using a detergent dosing aid.
[0081] In particular, the term "introducing into a washing machine" does not refer to the release of active substances into the wash or rinse water. The release of active substances into the incoming water occurs through the measures taken according to steps ii) and iii) in a further step, which takes place after the start of the wash program, during the execution of the wash program. A cycle of such a wash program typically includes at least one cleaning cycle and one rinse cycle, and possibly one or more pre-rinse and intermediate rinse cycles. Wash programs that omit a cleaning cycle and thus include one rinse cycle and possibly one or more pre-rinse and intermediate rinse cycles are also common.
[0082] For a desired enhanced fragrance impression, it is advantageous if the amount of active ingredients, such as the quaternary ammonium compound, cellulase, and perfume microcapsules, is adapted to the quantity of textiles to be treated. In this context, it is preferred according to the invention if the compositions according to the invention are used in the process in such a quantity that, per 500 g of textiles, preferably textiles comprising 50 to 100 wt.% cotton, there are 0.4 to 2.0 g of textile softening ingredients from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds, 0.1 to 4 mg of cellulase, and 5 to 160 mg of perfume microcapsules as contained according to the invention, the perfume microcapsules preferably containing polyurea.
[0083] Particularly preferred are processes in which, per 500 g of textiles, preferably textiles comprising 50 to 100 wt.% cotton, 0.5 to 1.6 g, in particular 0.56 to 1.4 g, textile softening ingredients from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds, 0.2 to 1.8 mg, in particular 0.24 to 1.0 mg, even more preferably 0.34 to 0.6 mg, cellulase, and 11 to 110 mg, in particular 16 to 80 mg, even more preferably 27 to 50 mg, of perfume microcapsules as according to the invention, the perfume microcapsules preferably containing polyurea, are present.
[0084] 9
[0085] Likewise, processes are preferred in which, per 500 g of textiles, preferably textiles comprising 50 to 100 wt.% cotton, 0.4 to 1.0 g of textile softening ingredients from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds, 0.1 to 0.3 g of polysaccharide, preferably starch, 0.1 to 4 mg of cellulase and 5 to 160 mg of perfume microcapsules as according to the invention, the perfume microcapsules preferably containing polyurea, are present.
[0086] Particularly preferred are processes in which, per 500 g of textiles, preferably textiles comprising 50 to 100 wt.% cotton, 0.5 to 0.9 g, in particular 0.56 to 0.7 g, textile softening ingredients from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds, 0.1 to 0.3 g, in particular 0.16 to 0.24 g polysaccharide, preferably starch, 0.2 to 1.8 mg, in particular 0.24 to 1.0 mg, even more preferably 0.34 to 0.6 mg, cellulase and 11 to 110 mg, in particular 16 to 80 mg, even more preferably 27 to 50 mg, of perfume microcapsules as according to the invention, the perfume microcapsules preferably containing polyurea, are present.
[0087] Accordingly, another subject matter of the present application is the use of a composition according to the invention for enhancing the fragrance impression on textiles.
[0088] The use of a composition according to the invention to enhance the fragrance impression on textiles after drying is preferred, especially under mechanical stress, particularly caused by wearing and / or using the textile.
[0089] “At least one,” as used herein, refers to one or more, for example, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, or more. In the context of ingredients of compositions described herein, this term refers not to the absolute quantity of molecules but to the type of ingredient. “At least one compound of formula X,” for example, means one or more different compounds of formula X, i.e., one or more different types of compounds of formula X. When used in conjunction with quantity specifications, the quantity specifications refer to the total quantity of the appropriately designated type of ingredient, as previously defined.
[0090] Unless otherwise stated, all quantities specified in connection with the compositions described herein refer to wt% based on the total weight of the composition. These quantities of pure substances refer to the (crystal-)anhydrous form, as do specific mass specifications, for example, in grams (g). Furthermore, such quantities (both wt% and g) relating to at least one component always refer to the total amount of that type of component contained in the composition, unless explicitly stated otherwise. This means that such quantities, for example, in connection with "at least one alkyl sulfate," refer to the total amount of alkyl sulfate contained in the composition.
[0091] “Liquid” means that the detergent composition is in liquid form and, in particular, free-flowing at room temperature, i.e., around 20 °C, and can therefore be poured, for example, from a container.
[0092] 10
[0093] can be dispensed. The term, as used herein, also includes gels. Numerical values given herein without decimal places refer to the full value given with one decimal place. For example, "99%" means "99.0%".
[0094] The expressions “approximately” or “about”, in connection with a numerical value, refer to a variance of ±10% relative to the stated numerical value, preferably ±5%.
[0095] When a “substituted” compound is described, for example a substituted alkyl, suitable substituents are known to the person skilled in the art, preferably a residue selected from -F, -CI, -Br, -I, -OH, -NH2, -NHR1 , -N(R1)2, -COOH, -CF3, -SH, -SR1, =O, -OR1, wherein R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue with 1 to 10 carbon atoms, which preferably replaces one or more hydrogen atoms, depending on its bonding capacity, in the respective compound.
[0096] These and other aspects, features, and advantages of the invention will become apparent to a person skilled in the art upon studying the detailed description and claims. Each feature from one aspect of the invention can be incorporated into any other aspect of the invention. Furthermore, it is understood that the examples contained herein are intended to describe and illustrate the invention, but do not limit it, and in particular, the invention is not limited to these examples.

[0137] Example 1.11
[0138] The compositions according to Examples 1 to 1.10 were formulated such that they contain 0.5 to 1.5 wt% starch, in particular 0.8 to 1.2 wt%, and most preferably 1.0 wt%, in each case based on the total weight of the composition, preferably selected from the group consisting of potato starch, maize starch, cereal starch, pea starch, tapioca starch, and modified starches and mixtures thereof, and 2.0 to 5.0 wt%, preferably 2.5 to 4.5 wt%, and most preferably 2.8 to 4.0 wt%, and most preferably 3.0 to 3.5 wt%, a textile softening ingredient from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium compounds.
[0139] 13
[0140] Example 1.12
[0141] The compositions according to Example 1 to 1.11 were formulated such that they have a pH value of 1.5 to 4.5, preferably 2.0 to 3.5, measured at 20 °C.
[0142] Example 1.13
[0143] The compositions according to Examples 1 to 1.12 were formulated such that they contain less than 3 wt.%, preferably less than 1 wt.%, particularly preferably less than 0.5 wt.%, surfactants from the group of anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof.
[0144] In a second series of experiments, the compositions according to Example 1 to 1.12 were combined such that they contain less than 0.3 wt.%, preferably less than 0.1 wt.%, particularly preferably less than 0.05 wt.%, surfactants from the group of anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof.
[0145] Example 2
[0146] Methods for enhancing the fragrance impression on textiles were carried out, wherein the methods were at least partially carried out in a washing machine and a composition according to one of Examples 1 to 1.13 was added.
[0147] Example 2.1
[0148] The procedure Example 2 was carried out such that the composition according to one of Examples 1 to 1.13 was added to the textile during the rinsing cycle.
[0149] Example 3:
[0150] A washing machine (Miele WCI 360 WTL) was loaded with terry towels (500 g).
[0151] One of the AH products was added to the fabric softener compartment of the washing machine at a dosage of 20g each, and the machine was washed using the rinse cycle without a main wash. This was repeated four times.
[0152] The towels were then dried at room temperature for 24 hours.
[0153] The fragrance intensity was rated by 7 experts on a scale of 1-10 (1: lowest intensity, 10: highest intensity). The rating was first performed with a dry towel and then again after the towel had been rubbed several times. This process causes the mechanically sensitive fragrance capsules to burst on dry fabrics. 2025P00050WQ
[0154] 14
[0155] The increase in fragrance intensity through rubbing is given as a percentage of the initial value before rubbing ("Boost").
