[0003] A LED FILAMENT ARRANGEMENT
[0004] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The invention relates to a LED filament arrangement configured to, in operation, emit LED filament arrangement light and comprising a LED filament, the LED filament being configured to, in operation, emit LED filament light, the LED filament being arranged in a collimator.
[0006] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0007] A trend in lighting is LED filament lamps. A LED filament lamp is a lamp which is designed to resemble a traditional incandescent light bulb with a visible filament for aesthetic and light distribution purposes, but with the high efficiency of LEDs. LED filaments being designed for LED retrofit lamps, where LED filament is fixed to supporting metal stem and enclosed in protective glass bulb cover, are widely used. However, standard LED filaments within glass bulbs have to be cooled by means of gas cooling via a special atmosphere, such as an atmosphere of Helium.
[0008] LED filaments are one of most efficient LED light sources on the market, and LED luminaires could benefit from use of LED filaments as a light source. Therefore, LED filaments are now also considered to be used in luminaires.
[0009] However, LED luminaires bring new challenges when incorporating of LED filaments as a light source. It requires additional means to protect the fragile LED filament from mechanical forces during assembly, transportation, installation, and use of such filament-based LED luminaires.
[0010] Also, there are some optical challenges with LED filaments for use in luminaires. These include the following. LED filaments emit light in all directions, while in most cases luminaires, and especially office-compliant luminaires, will require light to be directed into a narrower angular space within a cone less than 71 steradians, or so. Also, LED filaments have quite small and bright light sources which results in significant glare, which might be not appreciated by consumers or will not be accepted in office luminaires as a light source due to not meeting unified glare rating, UGR, specification limits.2025PF80051
[0011] 2
[0012] US 2013 / 141925 Al discloses a low glare overhead lighting fixture for a transit vehicle comprising a lighting fixture base assembly for mounting one or more light sources (e.g., LEDs in the form of a light strip or fluorescent tubes), and a light permeable cover adapted to reduce glare. The light permeable cover may include a light guide embodied as a grid-like structure with holes or perforations for directing the light from the light source in a manner reducing light spread. The light guide may be disposed between front and rear lens covers. The lighting fixture may also utilize a light permeable cover having an anti-glare surface element, such as a privacy filter screen or mesh which may be formed using micro louver technology. The lighting fixture base assembly may have separate compartments, each lined with a highly reflective coating, housing one or more deeply set LEDs.
[0013] It is desired to improve the optical performance of LED filament luminaires, and especially to provide a LED filament arrangement and a LED filament luminaire with a light output having an improved directionality and a reduced glare.
[0014] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0015] It is an object of the present invention to overcome this problem, and to provide a LED filament arrangement and a luminaire with such a LED filament arrangement, which LED filament arrangement is capable of providing LED filament arrangement light with an improved directionality and a reduced glare, and therefore an improved optical performance.
[0016] According to a first aspect of the invention, this and other objects are achieved by means of a LED filament arrangement configured to, in operation, emit LED filament arrangement light and comprising at least one LED filament, the at least one LED filament being configured to, in operation, emit LED filament light, wherein the at least one LED filament is arranged in a collimator, wherein the collimator (i) is reflective and elongated, (ii) comprises a light exit window, and (iii) is configured to redirect the LED filament light in a direction towards the light exit window, wherein the at least one LED filament arrangement further comprises a plurality of reflecting lamellae arranged in the collimator, and wherein the plurality of reflecting lamellae are arranged extending perpendicular to the LED filament.
[0017] By placing one or more LED filaments in an elongated reflective collimator, it becomes possible to efficiently redirect light into a well-controlled beam. Additionally, providing a set of lamellas allows to achieve light beam control and minimize glare in direction along the filament length. All in all, such a LED filament arrangement provides superior collimated LED filament arrangement light and an improved optical performance.2025PF80051
[0018] 3
[0019] The LED filament arrangement may comprise a plurality of LED filaments, each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments being configured to, in operation, emit respective LED filament light, wherein each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments is arranged in a respective associated collimator, wherein each collimator (i) is reflective and elongated, (ii) comprises a respective associated light exit window, and (iii) is configured to redirect the LED filament light in a direction towards the light exit window, wherein each collimator further comprises a plurality of respective associated reflecting lamellae, each plurality of reflecting lamellae being arranged extending perpendicular to the LED filament arranged in the collimator.
[0020] Thereby an improved light quality and efficiency, and thus an improved optical performance, is provided for.
[0021] The LED filament arrangement light may be white light having a correlated color temperature in a range from 1700K to 6500K and / or a color rendering index of at least 80.
[0022] The LED filament light may be white light having a correlated color temperature in a range from 1700K to 6500K and / or a color rendering index of at least 80.
[0023] At least one of the collimator and the plurality of reflecting lamellae may be specularly reflecting.
[0024] At least one of each collimator and each plurality of reflecting lamellae may be specularly reflecting.
[0025] This provides further improved collimation and focusing and thus directionality of the LED filament light in a predefined direction, and thus improved accuracy of the achieved beam shape of the LED filament arrangement light.
[0026] The at least one LED filament may be arranged in an optical center of the collimator.
[0027] Each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments may be arranged in an optical center of a collimator.
[0028] The obtained effect is even further improved collimation because it in this way is ensured that the majority of the LED filament arrangement light is indirect light, that is majority of the LED filament light is projected towards the reflector.
[0029] The at least one LED filament may comprise a substrate with a first major surface, and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface, wherein the at least one LED filament comprises an array of LED light sources arranged on the first major2025PF80051

[0031] surface, and wherein the at least one LED filament is arranged in the collimator in such a way that the array of LED light sources face a bottom part of the collimator.
[0032] Alternatively, the at least one LED filament may comprise a substrate with a first major surface, and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface, wherein the at least one LED filament comprises a first array of LED light sources arranged on the first major surface and a second array of LED light sources arranged on the second major surface, and wherein the at least one LED filament is arranged in the collimator in such a way that the first array of LED light sources and the second array of LED light sources face mutually opposite side parts of the collimator.
[0033] Each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments may comprise a substrate with a first major surface, and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface, wherein at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments comprises an array of LED light sources arranged on the first major surface, and wherein the at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments is arranged in the collimator in such a way that the array of LED light sources face a bottom part of the collimator.
[0034] Alternatively, each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments may comprise a substrate with a first major surface, and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface, wherein at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments comprises a first array of LED light sources arranged on the first major surface and a second array of LED light sources arranged on the second major surface, and wherein the at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments is arranged in the collimator in such a way that the first array of LED light sources and the second array of LED light sources face mutually opposite side parts of the collimator.
[0035] Thereby, a LED filament arrangement with a simple structure and improved collimation of the arrangement light is provided since the LED filament light is directed directly towards the collimator.
[0036] The plurality of reflecting lamellae and the at least one LED filament may be one or more of mechanically attached to one another and thermally connected to one another.
[0037] Each plurality of reflecting lamellae may be one or more of mechanically attached and thermally connected to the LED filament arranged in the same collimator.
[0038] The at least one LED filament and the collimator may be one or more of mechanically attached to one another and thermally connected to one another.
[0039] Each LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments may be one or more of mechanically attached and thermally connected to the collimator in which it is arranged.2025PF80051
[0040] 5
[0041] Mechanical attachment provides improved rigidity of LED filament arrangement. Mechanical attachment between LED filaments and collimator further keeps the LED filaments in the desired position in a particularly simple manner and can support cooling of LED filaments. Sufficient mechanical fixation between lamellae and LED filament (and / or LED filament and reflector), as well as between lamellae and reflector, further provides rigidity to the LED filament arrangement and mechanical protection to LED filament(s).
[0042] Thermal connection provides improved cooling of the LED filaments.
[0043] Sufficient cooling of the LED filaments may be required to ensure long-term operation, especially since the LED filament’s own outer surface often is insufficiently small for effective cooling by air. Keeping the LED filament temperature low is in any event essential not only for lifetime, but also for improved efficiency in application since LED efficiency is negatively affected by elevated temperatures. Furthermore, if the lamellae have good mechanical contact to the outer surface of the LED filament(s) and are made out of metal sheets or other thermally conductive materials, it will help to improve cooling of LED filament within such modular light source element to air and avoid use of a dedicated cooling atmosphere of for instance Helium.
[0044] A spacing may be provided between the at least one LED filament and at least one lamella of the plurality of reflecting lamellae.
[0045] A spacing may be provided between at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments and at least one lamella of the plurality of reflecting lamellae arranged in the same collimator.
[0046] The spacing is at most 1 mm, at most 0.75 mm, or at most 0.5 mm.
[0047] Thereby, a good compromise between rigidity and flexibility and the advantages associated with each of these is obtained.
[0048] A spacing may be provided between the at least one LED filament and the collimator.
[0049] A spacing may be provided between at least one LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments and the collimator in which it is arranged.

[0052] 6
[0053] configured to enable arranging the at least one LED filament at least partly recessed in the recess.
[0054] At least one lamella of each plurality of reflecting lamellae may comprise two parts, wherein one or more of the following applies: (i) a LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments is arranged between the two parts, and (ii) at least one of the two parts comprises a recess configured to enable arranging a LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments at least partly recessed in the recess.
[0055] The plurality of reflecting lamellae may comprise through holes, wherein the at least one LED filament is arranged in the through holes. The lamella may fully surround the respective through hole, and may hence fully encircle the inserted LED filament.
[0056] Each plurality of reflecting lamellae may comprise through holes, wherein a LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments is arranged in the through holes.
[0057] Fixing the LED filament within an opening or through hole in the lamellae and combining this with a shaped elongated reflector will provide mechanical stiffness and rigidity to the whole LED filament arrangement such as to protect the rather fragile LED filament(s) from breaking during assembly, transportation, and use.
[0058] At least one lamella of the plurality of reflecting lamellae may be arranged at only one side of the at least one LED filament.
[0059] At least one lamella of each plurality of reflecting lamellae may be arranged at only one side of the respective LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments.

[0062] A surface of at least one lamella of each plurality of reflecting lamellae adjacent to the respective LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments may be shaped such that at least a part of the lamella is provided with the shape of a wedge tapering away from the respective LED filament of the plurality of LED filaments.
[0063] Thereby, light from the part of the filament under the base of the lamella or lamellae will be blocked. To limit the light loss, the filament architecture can be optimized by ensuring that no LED light sources are placed at those parts of the LED filament(s) as will be described below.
[0064] The at least one LED filament may be free from LED light sources at a position directly adjacent to the plurality of lamellae.2025PF80051

[0073] At least a part of at least one lamella of each plurality of reflecting lamellae may comprise a reflective coating, a reflective foil, or a reflective layer.
[0074] Providing lamellae being transparent or reflective will limit loss of light by absorption in lamellae.
[0075] The collimator may comprise a first collimator part and a second collimator part, wherein the first collimator part and the second collimator part comprise mutually different shapes.
[0076] Each collimator may comprise a first collimator part and a second collimator part, wherein the first collimator part and the second collimator part comprise mutually different shapes.
[0077] This makes further improved collimation and further embodiments and shapes of LED filament arrangements possible.2025PF80051
