[0003] Description

[0004] Methods for determining the properties of a railway vehicle

[0005] The invention relates to a method for determining the properties of a rail vehicle, in particular the energy requirements of the rail vehicle.

[0006] Introduction and State of the Art

[0007] German patent application DE 102023202 189 A1 discloses a method for determining the properties (e.g., energy consumption during operation, temperatures of loaded components, current or voltage values, etc.) of a rail vehicle. In this method, a first rail vehicle, for example a locomotive, is mechanically connected to a second rail vehicle, for example another locomotive, in order to carry out a test run on a known test track.

[0008] The first rail vehicle serves as a kind of "adjustable load," whose properties can be adjusted or varied through controlled braking behavior. Track characteristics (gradients, gradients, etc.) and train characteristics (total weight, weight to be hauled, etc.) can be simulated via the braking behavior. The second rail vehicle then becomes the test object, for which the vehicle parameters are determined during the test run.

[0009] In rail transport, customers increasingly desire to obtain information from the rail vehicle manufacturer regarding the characteristics of a specific rail vehicle, with particular emphasis on energy requirements, temperature load on components, cooling requirements of components, component wear, etc.

[0010] Currently, the rail vehicle manufacturer is accessing past measurements that were carried out as part of tenders for a customer.

[0011] In particular, large railway operators design their own measurement campaigns for their tenders in order to depict a planned use of the rail vehicle and to determine interesting vehicle characteristics based on this.

[0012] Typically, tenders also specify very precise parameters for the measurement conditions. These include, for example: 202503711

[0013] 2

[0014] - Specifications for operating points, for example for tractive force or speed, - Specifications for network voltages,

[0015] - Specifications regarding the load to be moved,

[0016] - Specifications for a route (e.g. inclines, declines),

[0017] - Specifications regarding the timetable, infrastructure, weather, etc.

[0018] Accordingly, vehicle characteristics or vehicle parameters determined in such a measurement campaign are extremely customer-specific, and the associated results are of little to no significance for other customers, especially for operators with little operational experience in this area.

[0019] Ultimately, this means that elaborate measurement campaigns have to be planned individually for each customer and carried out with a great deal of cost and time.

[0020] Task

[0021] The object of the invention described below is to provide a method for determining the properties of a rail vehicle, in particular the energy requirements of the rail vehicle, which enables different customers to obtain meaningful values for comparison for the intended uses of the rail vehicle.

[0022] This problem is solved by the features of claim 1.

[0023] Advantageous further developments are specified in the dependent patent claims.

[0024] Description of the invention

[0025] The invention relates to a method for determining the properties of a railway vehicle. A number of different test cycles are provided for determining these properties. Each test cycle is assigned a sequence of railway vehicle operation that is defined in terms of content and timing in order to simulate a predetermined use of the railway vehicle (in the sense of a standard).

[0026] Depending on the planned use of a first rail vehicle, an appropriate test cycle is selected from a number of different test cycles. The first rail vehicle then undergoes the selected test cycle. Based on the selected test cycle, the properties of the first rail vehicle are then determined. 202503711

[0027] 3

[0028] In an advantageous further training course, a test track is used to carry out the test cycle.

[0029] In an advantageous further development, data from the test cycle is loaded onto a second rail vehicle. Based on this data, the characteristics of the second rail vehicle are adjusted by controlling its braking behavior. The first rail vehicle is mechanically coupled to the second. The first rail vehicle then undergoes the test cycle, which is determined by the controlled braking behavior of the coupled second rail vehicle.

[0030] In an advantageous further training, a test cycle is used for the use of the first rail vehicle in freight transport, in which

[0031] - the rail vehicle covers a predetermined, in particular long, route, - the rail vehicle makes a predetermined, in particular small, number of stops,

[0032] - the rail vehicle is moving a predetermined, especially heavy, load and - the rail vehicle is being operated at a predetermined, especially low, speed.

[0033] In an advantageous further development, a test cycle is used for the use of the first rail vehicle in passenger transport and / or high-speed transport, in which: - the rail vehicle covers a predetermined, in particular long, distance, - the rail vehicle makes a predetermined, in particular small, number of stops, and

[0034] - the rail vehicle is operated at a predetermined, especially high, speed.

[0035] In an advantageous further training, a test cycle is used for the use of the first rail vehicle in passenger transport and / or regional transport, in which

[0036] - the rail vehicle travels a predetermined, especially medium, route,

[0037] - the rail vehicle makes a predetermined, particularly high, number of stops, and

[0038] - the rail vehicle is operated at a predetermined, in particular medium, speed. 202503711

[0039] 4

[0040] In an advantageous further training, a test cycle is used for the use of the first rail vehicle in passenger transport and / or in light rail transport and / or in subway transport, in which

[0041] - the rail vehicle covers a predetermined, in particular short, distance, - the rail vehicle makes a predetermined, in particular high, number of stops, and

[0042] - the rail vehicle is operated at a predetermined, in particular medium, speed.

[0043] In an advantageous further training, a test cycle is used for the use of the first rail vehicle in shunting operations, in which

[0044] - the rail vehicle covers a predetermined, in particular short, distance, - the rail vehicle makes a predetermined, in particular high, number of stops, and

[0045] - the rail vehicle is operated at a predetermined, especially low, speed.

[0046] In an advantageous further training, a procedure is created for each test cycle, taking into account the relevant boundary conditions for the use of rail vehicles.

[0047] A beneficial continuing education program will take at least one of these boundary conditions into account:

[0048] Specifications regarding operating points, for example for tractive force and / or speed, specifications regarding network voltages,

[0049] Specifications regarding the load to be moved,

[0050] Specifications for a route (e.g. inclines, declines),

[0051] Specifications regarding the timetable, infrastructure, weather, and / or

[0052] Specifications regarding driving resistance.

[0053] Advantages:

[0054] The present invention introduces standardized test cycles for a rail vehicle, which allows different customers to compare the properties or energy consumption of different rail vehicles. 202503711

[0055] 5

[0056] The present invention covers predetermined application areas of the rail vehicle via the standardized test cycles.

[0057] The present invention enables a comprehensible performance comparison of different rail vehicles.

[0058] The present invention makes it possible to measure different vehicles, even from different manufacturers, in order to easily compare them afterwards.

[0059] The present invention can be implemented flexibly with minimal planning effort and requires only a small amount of personnel for its execution.

[0060] The present invention can be implemented cost-effectively, particularly on a test track. It requires minimal costs for planning, preparation, and execution.

[0061] The present invention enables the sales department to easily handle corresponding customer requests.
