[0002] A Clamping System
[0003] FIELD
[0004] The present teachings relate to a clamping system for a wall or ceiling assembly comprising a flexible sheet, a tile assembly for a ceiling system, and a method of assembling a tile assembly for a ceiling system.
[0005] BACKGROUND
[0006] Wall and ceiling system, for example suspended ceiling systems, typically include a plurality of tiles or panels mounted to a framework. Such tiles or panels are known to be covered, for example with a fabric covering. Such coverings help to improve the overall aesthetics of the tile assembly when viewed from a lower or outer face thereof, and may have benefits to acoustic performance.
[0007] Throughout the lifespan of the tile or panel, the covering may sag or wrinkle, which is detrimental to the desired aesthetic of the tile assembly. This may be due to a variety of factors, for example fabric stretching or shifting, improper installation and / or changes in temperature and humidity. The fabric may stretch under its own weight. The problem may therefore be exacerbated in larger tiles or tiles with thicker fabric coverings as the fabric covering is heavier.
[0008] Known fabric covered tiles tend to be manufactured from complex frame profiles that utilise numerous discrete components. This can make the cost of such tiles prohibitively expensive for some applications. In addition, if a replacement of the covering is desired, it may be difficult for this to be achieved due to the way in which it is secured.
[0009] The present teachings seek to overcome or at least mitigate one or more problems associated with the prior art.
[0010] SUMMARY
[0011] A first aspect of the present teachings provides a clamping system for a wall or ceiling tile assembly comprising a flexible sheet, the clamping system comprising:a clamp member comprising a retention channel extending along an elongate length thereof for receiving the flexible sheet; and
[0012] a retention member for inserting into the retention channel, wherein the retention channel comprises an engagement formation configured to co-act with the retention member, in use, to retain the flexible sheet in the retention channel;
[0013] wherein the retention member is a self-locking retention member such that the retention member is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet to resist movement of the flexible sheet relative to the retention member and the engagement formation when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, in use.
[0014] Advantageously, the self-locking retention member improves ease of assembly of the tile assembly, as the flexible sheet is retained in the retention channel in a desired position by applying tension to the flexible sheet (i.e. without the need for an additional step of locking the retention member). Additionally, the self-locking retention member is suitable for flexible sheets of a variety of thicknesses as the spacing between the retention member and the engagement formation is variable depending on sheet thickness.
[0015] In addition, damage to the clamping system and tile assembly, particularly to the retention member, during disassembly of the tile assembly is reduced or may even be eliminated, thereby improving durability and re-usability of the clamping system.
[0016] Optionally, the retention member is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet in a direction towards the engagement formation, in use.
[0017] Advantageously, the direction of the force exerted on the flexible sheet by the retention member helps to securely retain the flexible sheet between the engagement formation and the retention member when tension is applied to the flexible sheet.
[0018] Optionally, the retention member is configured to engage the engagement formation, in use, such that an increase in tension applied to the flexible sheet increases the force exerted on the flexible sheet by the retention member.Advantageously, an increase in tension applied to the flexible sheet enables an automatic increase in the force applied to retain the flexible sheet in the retention channel in the desired position, thereby improving ease of assembly.
[0019] Optionally, the engagement formation is a protrusion extending into an opening of the retention channel. Optionally, the retention member is configured to engage in the retention channel behind the protrusion, in use.
[0020] Advantageously, a protrusion is simple to manufacture and helps to retain the retention member in the retention channel, in use, whilst helping to inhibit movement of the flexible sheet relative to the retention member and the protrusion.
[0021] Optionally, the engagement formation is a first engagement formation. Optionally, the retention channel further comprises a second engagement formation discrete from the first engagement formation. Optionally, the retention member is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet to resist movement of the flexible sheet relative to the first engagement formation, the second engagement formation and the retention member, in use.
[0022] Advantageously, discrete first and second engagement formations provide two locations at which the flexible sheet is retained in the retention channel in the desired position, in use.
[0023] Optionally, the first and second engagement formations are protrusions extending into an opening of the retention channel. Optionally, the first and second protrusions extend from opposing sides of the opening. Optionally, the retention member is configured to engage in the retention channel behind the protrusions, in use.
[0024] Advantageously, protrusions are simple to manufacture and help to retain the retention member in the retention channel, in use, whilst helping to inhibit movement of the flexible sheet relative to the retention member and the protrusions.
[0025] Optionally, the retention member comprises a retention plate configured to engage the engagement formation, in use.Advantageously, a retention plate is compact and simple to manufacture and manipulate during assembly and disassembly of the retention member in the retention channel.
[0026] Optionally, the retention plate defines first and second opposing ends. Optionally, the first and second opposing ends are configured to engage the first and second engagement formations respectively to resist movement of the flexible sheet relative to the retention member and the first and second engagement formations when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, in use.
[0027] Advantageously, engagement of the retention plate at the first and second ends helps to distribute the force exerted on the flexible sheet by the retention member.
[0028] Optionally, the retention plate defines a width extending between the first and second ends thereof. Optionally, the width of the retention plate is greater than a width of an opening of the retention channel.
[0029] Advantageously, the width of the retention plate being greater than the width of the opening enables the retention member to be retained in the retention channel behind the opening.
[0030] Optionally, the second end of the retention plate is angled with respect to a remainder of the retention plate.
[0031] Advantageously, the angled second end of the retention plate enables the retention member to be inserted into the retention channel, in use, and retained within the retention channel by the second engagement formation.
[0032] Optionally, the first end of the retention plate is substantially parallel to the first engagement formation, in use, and / or the second end of the retention plate is substantially parallel to the second engagement formation, in use.
[0033] Advantageously, the parallel portions of the retention plate and engagement formations enable uniform distribution of force along said parallel portions, thereby helping to increase clamping of the flexible sheet between the retention plate and the first and second engagement formations.Optionally, the retention member comprises a support plate extending from the retention plate in a direction away from the retention channel, in use.
[0034] Advantageously, the support plate aids insertion and removal of the retention member into and from the retention channel, in use. For example, the support plate may be engaged by a tool to aid removal of the retention member from the retention channel.
[0035] Optionally, the clamp member comprises an access channel extending along the elongate length thereof. Optionally, the access channel is located proximate the support plate, in use.
[0036] Advantageously, the access channel provides space for a tool to access the support plate during disassembly of the retention member from the clamp member. This enables the tool to exert a force on the support plate to remove the retention plate from the retention channel, thereby improving ease of disassembly.
[0037] Optionally, the retention channel comprises an opening. Optionally, the opening of the retention channel is arranged at a non-zero angle relative to a lateral axis of the clamp member.
[0038] Advantageously, the angle of the opening enables insertion of the retention member into the retention channel in a first orientation, pivoting of the retention member within the retention channel and movement of the retention member to exert the force on the flexible sheet when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, in use.
[0039] Optionally, the retention channel comprises an opening and a cavity located spaced apart from the opening. Optionally, the retention member is located at or towards an opening of the cavity, in use.
[0040] Optionally, the cavity may provide a space in which the retention member can be inserted into the retention channel during assembly of the retention member into the retention channel such that the retention member can be pivoted past the engagement formation and into the retention channel.Advantageously, the cavity allows the retention member to easily assembled with reduced force, thereby simplifying installation and avoiding the need for deformation of the retention member or channel to locate the retention member within the retention channel.
[0041] Optionally, the cavity comprises a nose extending into the opening of the cavity.
[0042] Advantageously, the nose acts as a pivot point during assembly of the retention member into the retention channel, thereby enabling the retention member to pivot into engagement with the engagement formation when tension is applied to the flexible sheet.
[0043] Optionally, the nose is located on an opposing side of the cavity to the second engagement formation.
[0044] Advantageously, the location of the nose and the second engagement formation enables the retention member to be pivoted about the nose into engagement with the second engagement formation.
[0045] Optionally, a distance between the engagement formation and a base wall of the cavity is greater than a total of a height of a portion of the retention member located in the retention channel and twice the thickness of the flexible sheet to be clamped therein.
[0046] Advantageously, the distance between the engagement formation and the base wall of the cavity allows sufficient clearance for the retention member and the flexible sheet during assembly, thereby enabling the retention member to be pivoted into the retention channel without hindrance.
[0047] Optionally, the clamping system further comprises a support structure for connecting to a ceiling system. Optionally, the support structure is configured to be connected to the clamp member, in use.
[0048] Advantageously, the support structure enables mounting of the clamping system to the ceiling system and provides reinforcement to the clamping system.Optionally, the clamping system comprises a tensioning arrangement configured to apply tension to the flexible sheet and connect the clamp member to the support structure, in use.
[0049] Advantageously, the tensioning arrangement helps to maintain tension applied to the flexible sheet if the flexible sheet stretches / relaxes over time.
[0050] Optionally, the tensioning arrangement comprises a tensioning member configured to extend between the support structure and the clamp member, in use. Optionally, the tensioning member is configured to facilitate adjustment of tension applied to the flexible sheet, in use.
[0051] Advantageously, the tensioning member helps to maintain tension applied to the flexible sheet if the flexible sheet stretches / relaxes over time, thereby improving the aesthetics of the tile assembly throughout the lifespan of the flexible sheet, e.g. by reducing the risk of sagging.
[0052] Optionally, the clamp member comprises an anchor channel extending along the elongate length thereof and configured to receive a first end of the tensioning member therein, in use.
[0053] Advantageously, the anchor channel enables connection of the clamp member to the support structure and is a compact arrangement for performing both the function of connecting the support structure to the clamp member and maintaining tension applied to the flexible sheet.
[0054] Optionally, the retention channel and the anchor channel are located on opposing sides of the clamp member with respect to the elongate length of the clamp member.
[0055] Advantageously, the arrangement of the retention channel and the anchor channel is compact and enables both retention of the flexible sheet with respect to the retention member and adjustment of tension applied to the flexible sheet.
[0056] Optionally, the tensioning member is configured to exert a biasing force on the retention member to apply resilient loading to the flexible sheet, in use.Advantageously, resilient loading systems have the advantage of substantially maintaining the tension applied to the flexible sheet if the flexible sheet stretches / relaxes over time. Resilient loading enables more precise tension control as the flexible sheet stretches, thereby improving the aesthetics of the tile assembly throughout the lifespan of the flexible sheet e.g. by reducing the risk of sagging.
[0057] Optionally, the tensioning member comprises an adjustment member, optionally a nut, located thereon. Optionally, the adjustment member is manually adjustable to adjust the tension applied to the flexible sheet, in use.
[0058] Advantageously, manual adjustment has the advantage of substantially maintaining tension applied to the flexible sheet if the flexible sheet stretches / relaxes over time, thereby improving the aesthetics of the tile assembly throughout the lifespan of the flexible sheet, e.g. by reducing the risk of sagging.
[0059] Optionally, the clamp member is an extruded clamp member.
[0060] According to a further aspect of the present teachings, there is provided a tile assembly for a wall or ceiling system, the tile assembly comprising:
[0061] the clamping system according to a previous aspect; and a flexible sheet extending into the retention channel of the clamp member;
[0062] wherein the retention member is a self-locking retention member such that when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, the retention member exerts the force on the flexible sheet to resist movement of the flexible sheet relative to the retention member and the engagement formation.
[0063] Advantageously, the self-locking retention member improves ease of assembly of the tile assembly, as the flexible sheet is retained in the retention channel in a desired position by applying tension to the flexible sheet (i.e. without the need for an additional step of locking the retention member). Additionally, the self-locking retention member is suitable for flexible sheets of a variety of thicknesses as the spacing between the retention member and the engagement formation is variable depending on sheet thickness. In addition, damage to the clamping system and tile assembly, particularly to the retention member, during disassembly of the tile assembly is reduced and may even be eliminated, thereby improving durability and re-usability of the clamping system.
[0064] Optionally, the flexible sheet extends into the retention channel, around the retention member and between the retention member and the engagement formation.
[0065] Advantageously, the path of the flexible sheet enables the flexible sheet to pivot the retention member when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, whilst enabling the retention member to exert the force on the flexible sheet. This improves ease of assembly and disassembly of the tile assembly and retains the flexible sheet in the retention channel.
[0066] Optionally, the flexible sheet extends into the retention channel, between the second end of the retention plate and the second engagement formation, around the retention member and between the first end of the retention plate and the first engagement formation.
[0067] Advantageously, the path of the flexible sheet enables the flexible sheet to pivot the retention member when tension is applied to the flexible sheet, whilst enabling the retention member to exert the force on the flexible sheet. This improves ease of assembly and disassembly of the tile assembly and retains the flexible sheet in the retention channel.

[0110] Referring firstly to Figure 1 , a tile assembly of an embodiment of the present teachings is generally indicated at 10. The tile assembly 10 is for a ceiling system 8, for example a suspended ceiling system. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the tile assembly 10 may be used in alternative ceiling systems, or as wall panels (i.e. where the tile assemblies 10 are vertically orientated). The suspended ceiling system 8 includes a framework, for example a grid framework, a plurality of tile assemblies 10 mounted to the framework and a suspension arrangement configured to suspend the tile assembly 10 below a surface to define a void therebetween. It shall be appreciated that in some embodiments, the grid framework is visible when viewed from below and in some embodiments the grid framework is substantially concealed by tile assemblies 10 when viewed from below.
[0111] Referring to Figure 2, the tile assembly 10 includes a flexible sheet 14 and a clamping system 16. The clamping system 16 includes a clamp member 18 having a retention channel 20 extending along an elongate length thereof for receiving the flexible sheet 14, and a retention member 22 for inserting into the retention channel 20. In some embodiments, the clamping system 16 includes a support structure indicated generally at 12.
[0112] The flexible sheet 14 extends into the retention channel 20, partially around the retention member 22 and between the retention member 22 and the engagement formation 30 (see Figure 4) so as to be retained in the retention channel 20 by the retention member 22 and the first engagement formation 30. The flexible sheet 14 then extends out of the retention channel 20, however in alternative embodiments the flexible sheet 14 may not extend out of the retention channel 20.
[0113] The tile assembly 10 is substantially rectangular and planar, as illustrated in Figure 1. The flexible sheet 14 is a woven fabric in this embodiment, for example a woven wool fabric. The flexible sheet may have a thickness in the range 0.1mm to 3mm, for example in the range 0.8mm to 1 ,5mm. It shall be appreciated that the thickness of the flexible sheet may be greater than 3mm or less than 0.1mm. In alternative embodiments, the flexible sheet 14 may be an alternative material, for example a metallic foil, or a woven or non-woven fabric of natural or artificial fibres. It shall be appreciated that in further alternative embodiments, the tile assembly 10 may be an alternative shape, as will be described in more detail below. The support structure 12 provides structural reinforcement to the tile assembly 10. The support structure 12 may also connect the clamping system 16 to the ceiling system 8. As illustrated in Figure 2, the support structure 12 is connected to the clamp member 18.
[0114] In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the support structure 12 defines the shape of the tile assembly 10. As such, the support structure 12 may be substantially rectangular, as illustrated in Figure 1 , for use in the tile assembly 10 of Figure 1. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the support structure 12 may be any suitable shape, for example any suitable polygon. In the embodiment of Figure 2, the support structure 12 defines a perimeter edge 17 that extends along each of the four sides of the tile assembly 10.
[0115] The support structure 12 may be formed from four sides which are mounted together at corners thereof to form the substantially rectangular support structure 12. Each of the four sides may be formed from a pressed metal sheet. The four sides of the support structure 12 define a substantially rectangular void therebetween over which the flexible sheet 14 extends under tension when the tile assembly 10 is assembled.
[0116] As illustrated in Figure 2, the support structure 12 includes an outer wall 24, an inner wall 26 and an intermediate wall 28 extending therebetween. It shall be appreciated that each side of the support structure 12 includes an outer wall 24, an inner wall 26 and an intermediate wall 28 extending therebetween. The outer walls 24, inner walls 26 and intermediate walls 28 of first and second opposing sides of the support structure 12 are illustrated in Figure 2. Each metal sheet is pressed to form the outer wall 24, inner wall 26 and intermediate wall 28 at each side of the support structure 12.
[0117] The support structure 12 defines a longitudinal axis extending parallel to the opposing first and second sides of the support structure 12 illustrated in Figure 2, and a lateral axis extending transversely to the longitudinal axis in a direction generally between the outer wall 24 and the inner wall 26. The intermediate wall 28 is connected to the inner and outer walls 26, 24 at opposing lateral ends thereof. The outer wall 26 is connected to the intermediate wall 28 at an uppermost edge thereof. The inner wall 26 is connected to the intermediate wall 28 at a lowermost edge thereof.
[0118] The outer wall 24 and the inner wall 26 are substantially parallel. The inner and outer walls 26, 24 are substantially perpendicular to the flexible sheet 14 when the flexible sheet 14 is under tension. When the tile assembly 10 is used as part of a ceiling system8, the inner and outer walls 26, 24 extend substantially vertically. The intermediate wall 28 extends perpendicular to the inner and outer walls 26, 24. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the inner and outer walls 26, 24 may be nonperpendicular to the intermediate wall 28. Additionally or alternatively, the inner and outer walls 26, 24 may be non-parallel.
[0119] The outer wall 24 defines the perimeter edge 17 of each side of the support structure 12. In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the outer wall 24 includes a return arm 29 extending therefrom. The return arm 29 extends at a non-zero angle from a lowermost edge of the outer wall 24 (i.e. from an opposing edge to the intermediate wall 28). In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, an acute angle is defined between the return arm 29 and the outer wall 24. In alternative embodiment, the angle may be approximately 90°, or more than 90°. The flexible sheet 14 extends around the lowermost edge of the outer wall 24, over the outer wall 24 and into the retention channel 20.
[0120] The inner wall 26 is connected to the clamp member 18. In particular, the inner wall 26 includes a mounting hole 62 for mounting the support structure 12 to the clamp member 18.
[0121] In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the intermediate wall 28 supports the clamp member 18 thereon. In particular, the clamp member 18 sits upon an upper face of the intermediate wall 28.
[0122] It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, any suitable arrangement of support structure 12 may be provided.
[0123] The clamp member 18 is illustrated in detail in Figure 4. It shall be appreciated that at least one clamp member 18 is provided along at least two opposing sides of the support structure 12 (typically on each side). The clamp member 18 includes the retention channel 20. The clamp members 18 are arranged such that retention channels 20 located at opposing sides of the support structure 12 face generally away from one another. The clamp member 18 may also include an anchor channel 44, an access channel 46, an intermediate channel 48, an inner wall 36, an outer wall 38, an upper wall 40 and / or a lower wall 42. In the arrangement shown in Figure 4, the clamp member 18 is a unitary body. In particular, the clamp member 18 is an extruded clamp member 18. In other embodiments the clamp member 18 may be manufactured using a different process, such as by being rolled or pressed from sheet metal. In further alternative embodiments, the clamp member 18 may be formed from an alternativematerial. By way of example, the clamp member 18 may be formed from timber material, and may be cut or carved into said timber material.
[0124] The inner and outer walls 36, 38 of the clamp member 18 are opposing inner and outer walls 36, 38. The inner and outer walls 36, 38 are at least partially parallel. The upper and lower walls 40, 42 are at least partially parallel. In particular, the inner and outer walls 36, 38 are parallel aside from formations of the clamp member 18 (such as the retention channel 20, anchor channel 44, an access channel 46, an intermediate channel 48) located thereon, and the upper and lower walls 40, 42 are parallel aside from formations of the clamp member 18 located thereon.
[0125] The retention channel 20 is defined by the outer wall 38, the lower wall 42 and the upper wall 40. As illustrated in Figure 2, the retention channel 20 faces generally away from the inner wall 26. The retention channel 20 extends along an entirety of the elongate length of the retention channel 20. In alternative embodiments, for example when the clamp member 18 is not an extruded clamp member 18, the retention channel 20 may extend only partially along the elongate length of the clamp member 18. It shall be appreciated that a plurality of retention channels 20 may be provided which are spaced apart along the elongate length of the clamp member 18.
[0126] The retention channel 20 includes an engagement formation 30 configured to co-act with the retention member 22, in use, to retain the flexible sheet 14 in the retention channel 20. The engagement formation 30 is illustrated in Figure 4. The retention channel 20 defines an opening 34 into which the retention member 22 is inserted during assembly and disassembly of the tile assembly 10. The opening 34 extends between the outer wall 38 and the upper wall 40 of the clamp member 18.
[0127] The opening 34 of the retention channel 20 is arranged at a non-zero angle relative to a lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. It shall be appreciated that the lateral axis a-a extends perpendicular to the elongate length of the clamp member 18. When the tile assembly 10 is used as part of a ceiling system 8, the lateral axis a-a is substantially horizontal. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18 may be offset from horizontal when the tile assembly 10 is used as part of the ceiling system 8. The support structure 12 may also be offset from horizontal such that the intermediate wall 28 and the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18 are substantially parallel. The non-zero angle is defined between an axis b-b extending transversely out of the opening 34 and the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. The non-zero angle may be in the range 5° to 85°, optionally in the range 20° to 60°, optionally in the range 30° to 50°, for example approximately 40°. The non-zero angle of the opening 34 enables insertion of the retention member 22 into the retention channel 20 in a first orientation, pivoting of the retention member 22 within the retention channel 20 and movement of the retention member 22 relative to the retention channel 20 during assembly of the tile assembly 10.
[0128] In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the engagement formation 30 is a first engagement formation 30. The retention channel 20 further includes a second engagement formation 32. The second engagement formation 32 is discrete from the first engagement formation 30. The retention member 22 is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet 14 to resist movement of the flexible sheet 14 relative to the first engagement formation 30, the second engagement formation 32 and the retention member 22, in use, as will be described in more detail below. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, more than two engagement formations may be provided.
[0129] The first engagement formation 30 is a protrusion extending into the opening 34 of the retention channel 20. The second engagement formation 32 is a protrusion extending into the opening 34 of the retention channel 20. The first and second protrusions 30, 32 extend from opposing sides of the opening 34. The retention member 22 is configured to engage in the retention channel 20 behind the first and second protrusions 30, 32, in use. This arrangement helps to retain the retention member 22 in the retention channel 20, in use.
[0130] The first protrusion 30 extends from the upper wall 40. The first protrusion 30 extends at an angle with respect to the lateral axis a-a (and with respect to the upper wall 40 in the embodiment of Figure 4). The angle may be in the range 30° to 70°, optionally in the range 40° to 60°, for example approximately 50°.
[0131] The first protrusion 30 extends towards the outer wall 38. The second protrusion 32 extends from the outer wall 38. The second protrusion 32 extends parallel to the lateral axis a-a (and perpendicularly from the outer wall 38 in the embodiment of Figure 4). The second protrusion 32 extends towards the inner wall 36. The first protrusion 30 isnon-parallel with the second protrusion 32. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the first and second protrusions 30, 32 may be parallel.
[0132] The retention channel 20 includes a cavity 47 located spaced apart from the opening 34. The cavity 47 is defined by the lower wall 42 and outer wall 38 of the clamp member 18. In particular, the cavity 47 is substantially U-shaped.
[0133] The retention member 22 is located at or towards an opening of the cavity 47, in use. In particular, the cavity 47 defines a base wall and opposing first and second sidewalls extending from the base wall, and the retention member 22 is spaced apart from the base wall, in use. The cavity 47 provides a space in which the retention member 22 can be inserted into the retention channel 20 during assembly of the retention member 22 into the retention channel 20 such that the retention member 22 can be pivoted past the first engagement formation 30 and into the retention channel 20. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the cavity 47 may be any suitable shape, and may have any suitable depth.
[0134] A distance is defined between the first engagement formation 30 and the base wall of the cavity 47 along an axis extending perpendicular to both the lateral axis a-a and the elongate length of the clamping member 18. The distance is greater than the total of a height of a portion of the retention member 22 located in the retention channel 20 and twice the thickness of the flexible sheet 14. A depth of the cavity 47 along the same axis as the distance may depend upon the thickness of the flexible sheet 14. As such, the depth of the cavity 47 may be increased as the thickness of the flexible sheet 14 is increased. By way of example, for flexible sheet thicknesses in the range 0.1mm to 3mm, the cavity 47 may have a depth in the range 3mm to 10mm.
[0135] The cavity 47 includes a nose 49 extending into the opening of the cavity 47. The nose 49 acts as a pivot point during assembly of the retention member 22 into the retention channel 20 and enables the retention member 22 to pivot relative to the retention channel 20 during assembly of the tile assembly 10. The nose 49 is located spaced apart from the base wall of the cavity 47. The nose 49 is located on an opposing side of the cavity 47 to the second engagement formation 32.
[0136] The retention channel 20 includes an angled wall 45. The angled wall 45 extends substantially parallel to the opening 34 of the retention channel 20 (i.e. transversely with respect to the axis b-b). The angled wall 45 defines the nose 49 of the cavity 47. As such, the angled wall 45 extends from the opening of the cavity 47 in a directiontowards the upper wall 40. The angled wall 45 is substantially parallel to the first engagement formation 30.
[0137] The access channel 46 extends along the elongate length of the clamp member 18. The access channel 46 provides space for a tool 98 to access the retention member 22 during disassembly of the retention member 22 from the clamp member 18. This enables the tool 98 to exert a force on the retention member 22 to remove the retention member 22 from the retention channel 20, thereby improving ease of assembly. The access channel 46 is located on the upper wall 40 of the clamp member 18. In particular, an opening of the access channel 46 is defined by the upper wall 40 and extends substantially parallel to the upper wall 40.
[0138] In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the access channel 46 includes a base wall and opposing first and second side walls. In particular, the access channel 46 is substantially U-shaped. In alternative embodiments, the access channel 46 may be any suitable shape. The access channel 46 is located adjacent the retention channel 20. In particular, the retention channel 20 and the access channel 46 share a common wall. The first engagement formation 30 extends from the common wall.
[0139] The anchor channel 44 extends along the elongate length of the clamp member 18. As such, the anchor channel 44, the retention channel 20 and the access channel 46 extend along substantially parallel axes. The anchor channel 44 enables connection of the clamp member 18 to the support structure 12.
[0140] As illustrated in Figure 4, the anchor channel 44 and the retention channel 20 are located on opposing sides of the clamp member 18 with respect to the elongate length of the clamp member 18. Put another way, the retention channel 20 and the anchor channel 44 are laterally spaced apart along the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. The anchor channel 44 and the access channel 46 are orientated approximately 90° with respect to each other.
[0141] The anchor channel 44 is located on the inner wall 36 of the clamp member 18. The anchor channel 44 is defined by the inner wall 36, the upper wall 40 and the lower wall 42. In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the anchor channel 44 is defined by a base wall and opposing first and second walls. In particular, the anchor channel 44 is substantially U-shaped. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the anchor channel 44 may be any suitable shape. The intermediate channel 48 is located between the retention channel 20 and the anchor channel 44. Put another way, the intermediate channel 48 separates the retention channel 20 and the anchor channel 44 along the lateral axis a-a. An opening of the intermediate channel 48 extends into the anchor channel 44. The intermediate channel 48 has a width less than a width of the anchor channel 44.
[0142] The clamping system 16 includes tensioning arrangement 58 configured to apply tension to the flexible sheet 14 and connect the clamp member 18, in use. The tensioning arrangement 58 is illustrated in Figure 2. The tensioning arrangement 58 includes a tensioning member 60. The tensioning member 60 is configured to facilitate adjustment of tension applied to the flexible sheet 14, in use. Typically, a plurality of tensioning members 60 may be provided at suitable spacings along each clamp member 18 to assist the application of a consistent tension to the flexible sheet 14.
[0143] The tensioning member 60 extends between the support structure 12 and the clamp member 18. The tensioning member 60 extends parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. In particular, the tensioning member 60 extends between the anchor channel 44 and the inner wall 26 of the support structure 12. As such, the inner wall 26 may also be referred to as a tensioning wall 26 in arrangements where a tensioning arrangement 58 is provided. The tensioning wall 26 includes the mounting hole 62 for receiving the tensioning member 60 therethrough.
[0144] As illustrated in Figure 2, a first end of the tensioning member 60 is received in the anchor channel 44. A second end of the tensioning member 60 extends through the mounting hole 62 and protrudes from the mounting hole 62 in an opposing direction to the anchor channel 44. In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the tensioning member 60 is a bolt 60, in particular a T-bolt. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the tensioning member 60 may be a hex bolt, or an alternative fastener. The first end of the tensioning member 60 has an increased width compared to the remainder of the bolt 60. The opening of the anchor channel 44 has a width less than the width of the first end of the bolt 60 such that the first end of the bolt 60 is retained within the anchor channel 44, in use, as illustrated in Figure 2.
[0145] It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments where the tensioning member 60 is an alternative fastener 60, for example a hex bolt, the first end may be located in the intermediate channel 48. The fastener 60 may extend through the opening of theintermediate channel 48, through the anchor channel 44 and out of the anchor channel 44.
[0146] In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the tensioning member 60 includes an adjustment member 64 located thereon. The adjustment member 64 is adjustable to adjust the tension applied to the flexible sheet 14, in use. In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the adjustment member 64 is a nut 64. The nut 64 engages the tensioning wall 26 of the support structure 12. The tensioning wall 26 is located between the nut 64 and the first end of the bolt 60.
[0147] In order to increase the tension applied to the flexible sheet 14, the nut 64 is tightened on the bolt 60. This causes the clamp member 18 to move in a direction towards the support structure 12, in particular towards the tensioning wall 26 (i.e. to the right in Figure 2), which increases tension applied to the flexible sheet 14. As such, the tensioning arrangement 58 of Figure 2 is a manually adjustable tensioning arrangement 58.
[0148] Figure 3 shows an alternative arrangement of a tensioning arrangement 158 for use in the clamping system 16. Like reference numerals with the tensioning arrangement of Figure 2 are labelled with the prefix “1”.
[0149] The tensioning arrangement 158 of Figure 3 is a resilient loading tensioning arrangement 158. As such, the tensioning member 160 is configured to exert a biasing force on the retention member 22 to apply resilient loading to the flexible sheet 14, in use. This means that the tensioning arrangement 158 is configured to automatically adjust the tension applied to the flexible sheet 14.
[0150] The tensioning member 160 includes a biasing member 170. The biasing member 170 is configured to automatically move the clamp member 18 towards the support structure 12, in particular towards the tensioning wall 26 (i.e. to the right in Figure 3), as the flexible sheet 14 sags. The biasing member 170 is a compression spring 170. The spring 170 extends between the adjustment member 164 and a plate 166. The plate 166 is fixedly mounted to the plate 166. A first end of the spring 170 is fixedly mounted to the adjustment member 164, and a second end of the spring 170 is fixedly mounted to the plate 166. As such, the spring 170 pushes the adjustment member 164 in a direction away from the tensioning wall 26 (i.e. to the right in Figure 3), which moves the clamp member 18 in a direction towards the tensioning wall 26 to increase the tension applied to the flexible sheet 14.It shall be appreciated that the plate 166 may be omitted and the spring may be connected to the tensioning wall 26 at the second end. It shall be appreciated that in the embodiment of Figure 3, the adjustment member 164 may instead be fixedly mounted to the tensioning member 160 (i.e. to the bolt 160).
[0151] The tensioning member 160 also includes the adjustment member 164. As such, the adjustment member 164 can also be used to manually adjust tension applied to the flexible sheet 14. As the spring 170 expands, the adjustment member 164 may be tightened on the bolt 160 such that the adjustment member 164 moves towards the tensioning wall 26 and compresses the spring 170. This helps to maintain tension in the flexible sheet 14 over a greater time period.
[0152] The retention member 22 is illustrated in detail in Figure 4. It shall be appreciated that the retention member 22 may be used in combination with the tensioning arrangements 58, 158 of Figures 2 and 3. The retention member 22 is a unitary body. In particular, the retention member 22 is formed using an extrusion process. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the retention member 22 may be formed using an alternative manufacturing process.
[0153] The retention member 22 is a self-locking retention member 22 such that the retention member 22 is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet 14 to resist movement of the flexible sheet 14 relative to the retention member 22 and the engagement formation 30 when tension is applied to the flexible sheet 14, in use. The self-locking retention member 22 improves ease of assembly of the tile assembly 10, as the flexible sheet 14 is retained in the retention channel 20 in a desired position by applying tension to the flexible sheet 14 (i.e. without the need for an additional step of locking the retention member 22). Additionally, the self-locking retention member 22 is suitable for flexible sheets 14 of a variety of thicknesses as the spacing between the retention member 22 and the engagement formation 30 is variable depending on sheet thickness.
[0154] The retention member 22 is configured to exert a force on the flexible sheet 14 in a direction towards the engagement formation 30, in use. It shall be appreciated that “in use” is taken to mean when the retention member 22 is inserted in the retention channel 20 and engages the flexible sheet 14. The retention member 22 is configured to engage the engagement formation 30, in use, such that an increase in tension applied to the flexible sheet 14 increases the force exerted on the flexible sheet 14 by the retentionmember 22. This is illustrated by the arrows in the Figure 4, which illustrated a direction of tension applied to the flexible sheet 14, and a direction of movement of the retention member 22 into engagement with flexible sheet 14.
[0155] A direction of tension T applied to a portion of the flexible sheet 14 extending out of the retention channel 20 is angled with respect to a direction of the force exerted by the retention member 22 on the flexible sheet 14. The direction of tension T is substantially parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. This helps to improve durability of mounting of the support structure 12 to the tile assembly 10 and the ceiling system 8 as the direction of tension T extends substantially parallel to fasteners for mounting said components together.
[0156] The portion of the retention member 22 located in the retention channel 20, in use, defines a lateral axis c-c, illustrated in Figure 4, extending perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the retention member 22. Said longitudinal axis of the retention member 22 extends substantially parallel to the elongate length of the clamping member 18. The lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22 is non-parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamping member 18. The lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22 is substantially parallel to the first protrusion 30 of the clamping member 18. As such, an angle defined between the lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22 and the lateral axis a-a of the clamping member 18 may be in the in the range 30° to 70°, optionally in the range 40° to 60°, for example approximately 50°.
[0157] The retention member 22 includes a retention plate 50 configured to engage the engagement formation 30, in use. The retention plate 50 is the portion of the retention member 22 located in the retention channel 20 and defines the lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22. It shall be appreciated that the retention plate 50 may be an alternative component for inserting into the retention channel 20, for example an alternative retention body, in alternative embodiments.
[0158] The retention plate 50 defines first and second opposing ends 54, 56. The opposing ends are taken to be lateral ends of the retention plate 50, i.e. ends which are laterally spaced apart along the lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22. Put another way, the opposing first and second ends 54, 56 are laterally spaced apart. The first and second opposing end 54, 56 are configured to engage the first and second engagement formations 30, 32 respectively to resist movement of the flexible sheet 14relative to the retention member 22 and the first and second engagement formations 30, 32 when tension is applied to the flexible sheet 14, in use.
[0159] A width of the retention plate 50 is greater than a width of the opening 34 of the retention channel 20. As such, the retention plate 50 is retained within the retention channel 20, in use.
[0160] The second end 56 of the retention plate 50 is angled with respect to a remainder of the retention plate 50 (i.e. angled relative to the lateral axis c-c of the retention member 22). The second end 56 of the retention member 22 is substantially parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamping member 18. Put another way, the retention plate 50 is substantially planar apart from the second end 56, which extends at an angle relative to the planar retention plate 50. The first end 54 of the retention plate 50 is substantially parallel to the first engagement formation 30, in use. The second end 56 of the retention plate 50 is substantially parallel to the second engagement formation 32, in use. As such, the angled second end 56 corresponds to the angle of the second protrusion 32. In other embodiments the retention plate may be planar or have different angled ends, for example.
[0161] The support plate 52 extends from the retention plate 50 in a direction away from the retention channel 20, in use. In particular, the support plate 52 extends out of the retention channel 20, in use. The support plate 52 aids insertion and removal of the retention member 22 into and from the retention channel 20. For example, the support plate 52 may be engaged by the tool 98 to aid removal of the retention member from the retention channel 20, as illustrated in Figure 6A and 6B. The access channel 46 is located proximate the support plate 52, in use. As such, the access channel 46 provides space for the tool 98 to access the support plate 52 during disassembly of the retention member 22 from the clamp member 18. This enables the tool to exert a force on the support plate 52 to remove the retention plate 50 from the retention channel 20, thereby improving ease of disassembly.
[0162] The support plate 52 includes a first portion extending transversely from the retention plate 50 in a direction away from the retention channel 20, in use, and a second portion extending transversely from the first portion. As such, the first and second portions are substantially L-shaped. In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the support plate also includes a third portion extending at a non-zero angle from the second portion. The third portion is non-perpendicular to the second portion. The third portion extendssubstantially parallel to the planar portion of the upper wall 40, in use. It shall be appreciated that the third portion extends over the access channel 46, in use. As such, the access channel 46 enables access to the third portion so as to remove the retention member 22 from the retention channel 20.
[0163] It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the first, second and third portions may extend at any suitable angle, or any suitable shape of support plate 52 may be provided. By way of example, the support plate 52 may be substantially curved, or include a combination of curved and linear portions.
[0164] A method of assembling the tile assembly 10 of Figures 2 and 4 will be described hereafter with reference to Figures 5A to 5E.
[0165] The method including the step of providing the clamp member 18 including the retention channel 20 extending along an elongate length thereof, wherein the retention channel 20 includes the engagement formation 30. The method also includes the step of providing the retention member 22 and the flexible sheet 14.
[0166] The retention member 22 is inserted into the retention channel 20 such that a portion of the flexible sheet 14 is located in the retention channel 20, as illustrated in Figures 5A and 5B. The direction of insertion I of the retention member 22 into the retention channel 20 is perpendicular to the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18 and to the elongate length of the clamp member 18. The retention member 22 is inserted into the retention channel 20 such that the retention plate 50 extends parallel to the direction of insertion I, and such that the second end 56 of the retention plate 50 enters the retention channel 20 first. The retention member 22 is inserted into the retention channel 20 such that the second end 56 is located in the cavity 47.
[0167] The retention member 22 is rotated within the retention channel 20 such that the first end 54 of the retention member 22 moves past the first engagement formation 30. This is illustrated in Figure 5C. The second end 56 is located within the cavity 47, particularly towards the base wall of the cavity 47. The second end 56 is located below the second engagement formation 32, and on the same side of the cavity 47 as the second engagement formation 32.
[0168] The method includes the step of applying tension to the flexible sheet 14 such that the retention member 22 moves towards the engagement formation 30 and exerts a force on the flexible sheet 14 to resist movement of the flexible sheet 14 relative to theretention member 22 and the engagement formation 30. This is illustrated in Figures 5D and 5E. Tension is applied to the portion of the flexible sheet 14 extending out of the retention channel 20 in a direction parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 18. This causes the first end 54 of the retention member 22 to move in a direction towards the first engagement formation 30. The direction of tension applied to the flexible sheet 14 and the direction of movement of the first end 54 are illustrated with arrows in Figure 5D. The second end 56 also moves in a direction towards the second engagement formation 32, to the position shown in Figure 5E. As such, the flexible sheet 14 is retained within the retention channel 20.
[0169] To remove the retention member 22 from the retention channel 20, the tool 98 is inserted into the access channel 46, as illustrated in Figure 6A. The tool 98 is rotated in a direction towards the support plate 52 so as to rotate the support plate 52. This causes the retention member 22 to move away from the first and second engagement formations 30, 32. As such, the first end 54 of the retention plate 50 can move past the first engagement formation 30, as illustrated in Figure 6B, and the retention member 22 can be disassembled from the retention channel 20.
[0170] It shall be appreciated that the retention channel 20 and retention member 22 are suitable for use with a range of different clamp members 118, 218, 318. Figures 7A to 7C illustrate alternative arrangements of clamp members 118, 218, 318 including the retention channel 20 and retention member 22 of substantially the same configuration as Figures 2 to 4. It shall be appreciated that the teachings described above in relation to Figures 2 to 6B are also applicable to the clamp members 118, 218, 318 of Figures 7A to 7C.
[0171] In the embodiment of Figure 7A, the access channel 46 and the intermediate channel 48 are omitted. The retention channel 120 and the anchor channel 144 share a common wall. It shall be appreciated that in further alternative embodiments, for example where the tensioning member 160 is a hex bolt, the anchor channel 144 may have a smaller width than the anchor channel 144 shown in Figure 6A.
[0172] In the embodiment shown in Figure 7B, the access channel 46, the intermediate channel 48 and the anchor channel 44 are omitted. As such, in this embodiment, the tensioning arrangement is not provided. It shall be appreciated that a mounting arrangement may be provided for mounting the clamp member 218 to the supportstructure 12. The clamp member 218 includes the retention channel 220 and the retention member 222.
[0173] In the embodiment shown in Figure 7C, the access channel 46 and the intermediate channel 48 are omitted. The anchor channel 344 is of an alternative arrangement to the anchor channel 44 of Figures 2 and 3. An opening of the anchor channel 344 extends substantially parallel to the lateral axis a-a of the clamp member 318. As such, the anchor channel 344 is orientated approximately 90° with respect to the anchor channel 44 of Figures 2 and 3.
[0174] An alternative tensioning arrangement 358 is provided. The tensioning member 360 is the biasing member 370. In particular, the tensioning member 360 is an extension spring. The tensioning member 360 is connected to the anchor channel 344 at a first end and to the support structure 312 at a second end. As such, the tensioning member 360 pulls the clamp member 318 in a direction towards the support structure 12 to automatically adjust tension in the flexible sheet 14.
[0175] It shall be appreciated that in further alternative embodiments, the biasing member 370 may be located outboard of the clamp member 318 (i.e. between an outer edge of the tile assembly and the clamp member 318). In this embodiment, the biasing member 370 is under tension such that the biasing member 370 moves the clamp member 318 inboard (i.e. in a direction away from the outer edge) to increase tension applied to the flexible sheet 14.
[0176] It shall be appreciated that in further alternative embodiments, the anchor channel 344 may be orientated approximately 180° compared to the embodiment shown in Figure 7C or the tensioning member 360 may be connected in some other way, such as through a hole in the clamp member 318.
[0177] It shall be appreciated that the clamp member 18 and retention member 22 are suitable for use in a range of clamping systems. Figures 8A to 8C illustrate an alternative arrangement of a clamping systems 416 including the clamp member 18 and retention member 22 of Figures 2 to 6B. It shall be appreciated that the teachings described above in relation to Figures 2 to 6B are also applicable to the clamping system 416 of Figures 8A to 8C. Like parts with the embodiment of Figures 2 to 6B will be labelled with the prefix “4”. It shall further be appreciated that the clamp members 118, 218, 318 of Figures 7A to 7C may also be used with the clamping system 416 of Figures 8A to 8C.Figures 8A to 8C illustrate an alternative support structure 412 for use in an alternative arrangement of the clamping system 416. The support structure 412 is an extruded support structure 412. Figures 8A to 8C show one extruded side of the support structure 412. It shall be appreciated that the sides of the support structure 412 may be extruded separately and mounted together to form the support structure 412.
[0178] The support structure 412 may include a capping member 481 located at each corner of the support structure 412 to connect adjacent sides of the support structure 412. The capping member 481 may have any suitable profile depending on the desired profile at each corner of the support structure 412. By way of example, the capping member 481 may include a substantially curved, or a right-angled profile.
[0179] In the embodiment of Figures 8A to 8C, the outer wall 124 is a profile 424. The profile 424 is substantially curved. In particular, the profile is substantially C-shaped in crosssection. The flexible sheet 14 extends around the profile 424 and into the retention channel 20. As such, the profile 424 helps to alter the aesthetic of the tile assembly 410 by providing a curved perimeter edge 417.
[0180] It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, an alternative shape of profile 424 may be provided, for example the profile 424 shown in Figure 8C. By way of example, the profile 424 may include a plurality of linear portions. The linear portions may include rounded ends 425, for example bulbous ends 425. In the embodiment shown in Figure 8C, the profile 424 creates a substantially trapezoidal perimeter of the tile assembly 410.
[0181] It shall be appreciated that the profiles 424 shown in Figures 8A to 8C are exemplary, and any suitable profile 424 may be provided. The profile 424 may create a tile assembly 410 with a perimeter edge 417 which is substantially rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal or the like.
[0182] It shall be appreciated that in some embodiments, the support structure 412 may be fabricated, and the profile 424 may be extruded and mounted to the fabricated support structure 412.
[0183] The support structure 412 of Figures 8A to 8C includes a hollow profile 480 extending along an elongate length of the support structure 412. The hollow profile 480 is for receiving the capping member 481. The support structure 412 also includes a ledge482 for receiving the capping member 481. [0185] It shall be appreciated that although in the embodiment of Figures 8A to 8C the tensioning arrangement 458 is of substantially the same arrangement as Figure 3, in alternative embodiments the tensioning arrangement 58 of Figure 2 may be provided, or an alternative tensioning arrangement may be provided.
[0186] It shall be appreciated that the clamp member 18 and retention member 22 are also suitable for use in a range of tile assemblies 510, 610, 710, 810. Figures 9A to 10B illustrate alternative arrangements of tile assemblies 510, 610, 710, 810. It shall be appreciated that the teachings described above in relation to Figures 2 to 6B are also application to the tile assemblies 510, 610, 710, 810 of Figures 9A to 10B. Like parts with the embodiment of Figures 2 to 6B will be labelled with the prefixes “5”, “6,”, “7”, or “8”.
[0187] In the arrangements of Figures 9A and 9B, the support structures 512, 612 are elongate beams 512, 612. The flexible sheet 14 is held under tension between opposing elongate beams 512, 612. In these arrangements, the clamp members 518, 618 are not supported on the support structures 512, 612. Instead, the support structures 512, 612 are supported on the clamp members 518, 618. The lower walls 542, 642 of the clamp members 518, 618 extend past the anchor channels 544, 644. The support structures 512, 612 are supported on the lower walls 542, 642.
[0188] The retention channels 520, 620 of the opposing elongate beams 512, 612 are arranged to face towards one another. As such, the clamp members 218, 318 are orientated in reverse compared to the arrangement of Figures 2 to 6B.
[0189] In the embodiment shown in Figure 9A, the clamp member 518 is of substantially the same configuration to the embodiment of Figures 2 to 6B. The tensioning arrangement558 is of substantially the same configuration to the arrangement of Figure 3. It shall be appreciated that the tensioning arrangement 58 of Figure 2 may also be used in the arrangement of Figure 9A.
[0190] In the embodiment of Figure 9B, the access channel 46 and the intermediate channel 48 are omitted and the anchor channel 644 and tensioning arrangement 658 are of an alternative arrangement similar to that of Figure 7C.
[0191] A further alternative arrangement of a tile assembly 710 is illustrated in Figures 10A and 10B. In this arrangement, the flexible sheet 14 is wrapped around the support structure 712. The support structure 712 includes a box section around which the flexible sheet 14 extends. The box section extends over the upper wall 740 of the clamp member 718.
[0192] It shall be appreciated that in a further alternative embodiment, the support structure 712 and the clamp member 718 may be a unitary body. In such embodiments, the unitary body may be an extruded unitary body.
[0193] It shall be appreciated that the clamping systems 116, 216, 316 of Figures 7A to 7C are also applicable to the arrangements of Figures 8A to 10B.
[0194] Figure 11 illustrates a corner arrangement for use with the clamping systems 16, 116, 216, 316, 416 and tile assemblies 10, 410 of Figures 2 to 8C. The corner arrangement will be described in relation to the tile assembly 10 of Figure 3. The corner arrangement includes a corner clamp member 18 and a corresponding corner retention member 22 located at the corner. The corner clamp member 18 is located between the clamp members 18 of adjacent sides of the support structure 12 and extends partially therebetween. The corner clamp member 18 may have a length less than a length of the clamp members 18 of the adjacent sides of the support structure 12.
[0195] The clamp members 18 of the adjacent sides of the support structure 12 are substantially perpendicular to one another (as the support structure 12 is substantially rectangular). It shall be appreciated that in some embodiments, the adjacent sides of the support structure 12 may be non-perpendicular. For example, an angle defined between adjacent sides may be less than 90°. As such, the corner arrangement of Figure 11 is suitable for use with a variety of tile assemblies of different shapes. The corner clamp member 18 extends at an angle relative to both the clamp members 18 of the adjacent sides of the support structure 12.The corner clamp member 18 is mounted to the support structure 12 by the tensioning arrangement 158 of substantially the same arrangement as described in relation to Figure 3. It shall be appreciated that the corner arrangement may also be used with the tensioning arrangement 58 of Figure 2, or any of the alternative tensioning arrangements described above.
[0196] The tensioning members 160 of the adjacent sides of the support structure extend perpendicularly to one another. The corner tensioning member 160 is located between the tensioning members 160 of the adjacent sides. The corner tensioning member 160 is angled relative to both the tensioning members 160 of the adjacent side. In particular, an acute angle is defined between the corner tensioning member 160 and each of the tensioning members 160 located at the adjacent sides. In the embodiment shown in Figure 11, the acute angles are the same, however in alternative embodiments the acute angles may be different.
[0197] The corner arrangement of Figure 11 is particularly advantageous for tile assemblies 10 where a large area of corner may not be tensioned by the tensioning arrangements 158 located at the adjacent sides of the support structure 12. The corner clamp member 18, corner retention member 22 and corner tensioning arrangement 158 enables tension to be applied to the flexible sheet 14 at the corners. The arrows in Figure 11 illustrated a direction of tension applied to the flexible sheet 14 at the sides of the support structure 12 and at the corner by the corner clamp member 18, corner retention member 22 and corner tensioning arrangement 158.
[0198] It shall be appreciated that in some embodiments, the tile assemblies 10, 410 may include a corner member 800 for mounting to the support structure 12, 112, 212, 312, 412 at one or more corners thereof. The corner member 800 may be used instead of adhesive and / or instead of additional manufacturing steps for removing excess flexible sheet 14 at corners of the tile assembly 410, thereby simplifying assembly of the tile assembly 10, 110, 210, 310, 410 and enabling the flexible sheet 14 to be reused.
[0199] In the embodiment shown in Figures 12A to 14D, the corner member 800 is used in combination with the tile assembly 410 of Figures 8A and 8B. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, the corner member 800 may be used with any suitable alternative tile assembly.

By way of example, a clip arrangement, as illustrated in Figure 12B, a push-fit arrangement or an alternative snap-fit arrangement may be provided.
[0208] As illustrated in Figures 13A and 13B, the body 802 is a plate 802. The corner member 800 is formed from sheet material which is pressed to form the corner member 800. It shall be appreciated that in some embodiments, the corner member 800 may include a first plate and a second plate, and the support structure 412 may be received between said first and second plates, and the first and second cavities may be defined between the respect first and second wings and the second plate. In further alternative embodiments, the corner member 800 may include two separate bodies (one including the first wing 810 and first cavity 816 and one including the second wing 812 and second cavity 818) which are mounted together or mounted separately to the support structure 412.
[0209] The firstand second cavities 816, 818 are configured to receive a portion of the flexible sheet 14 therein through the aperture 814. As such, the aperture 814 provide access to the first and second cavities 816, 818. Put another way, the aperture 814 provides an opening into each of the first and second cavities 816, 818.
[0210] The first and second wings 810, 812 each extend from a perimeter edge 802A, 802B of the corner member 800. The first and second wings 810, 812 are connected to thebody 802 along the perimeter edge 802A, 802B. The perimeter edge 802A, 802B includes a first side 802A located on the first side 412A of the support structure 412 and an adjacent second side 802B located on the second side 412B of the support structure 412. The first wing 810 is connected to the body 802 along the first side 802A of the body 802 and the second wing 812 is connected to the body 802 along the adjacent second side of the body 802. In the embodiment shown in Figures 13A and 13B, the first and second wings 810, 812 and the body 802 are only connected along said respective first and second sides 802A, 802B of the body 802.
[0211] The first and second sides 802A, 802B of the body 802 are non-parallel, or are angled relative to one another. In the embodiment shown in Figures 13A and 13B the first and second sides are substantially perpendicular to one another, however any alternative angle may be provided in alternative embodiments, for example depending on the shape of the support structure 412.
[0212] The first and second sides 802A, 802B of the body 802 each include a region of at least partially decreased thickness 806 extending therealong. Said region includes one or more apertures in the embodiment shown in Figure 13B, however any alternative region 806 may be provided, for example a region of constant reduced thickness. The first and second wings 810, 812 may be folded relative to the body 802 about said region 806 in a direction towards the body 802 to exert a clamping force on fabric that has been tucked inside the first and second cavities 816, 818.
[0213] The aperture 814 is an elongate slot 814. The elongate slot 814 is defined by adjacent sides of the first and second wings 810, 812. The adjacent sides are free sides, i.e. sides which are not directly connected to the body 802. The aperture 814 extends from a corner region of the body 802 defined by the first and second sides 802A, 802B of the body 802 in a direction away from said corner. It shall be appreciated that in alternative embodiments, alternative shapes of first and second wings 810, 812 and / or aperture 814 may be provided.
[0214] A method of assembling the tile assembly 410 will be described hereafter with reference to Figures 14A-14D. It shall be appreciated that the method is applicable to the corner member 800 of any of Figures 12A to 13B.
[0215] The method includes the step of providing the support structure 412, said support structure having adjacent first and second sides 412A, 412B, said first and second sides 412A, 412B defining a corner region. The method further includes the step ofproviding a flexible sheet 14 and the corner member 800. As illustrated in Figure 14A, the flexible sheet 14 may include a notch, recess or cut located at each corner thereof. This helps to reduce an amount of flexible sheet 14 which is inserted into the corner member 800.
[0216] The method includes the step of mounting the corner member 800 to the support structure 412 at the corner region defined by the first and second sides 412A, 412B, as illustrated in Figure 14A.
