Description

Compositions, films, optical films, and image display devices

[0001] The present invention relates to compositions, films, optical films, and image display devices.

[0002] Fluorine-containing compounds, particularly perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS), are known to have excellent properties such as water repellency and oil repellency, and are used in various fields. However, recently, due to their difficulty in decomposition, regulations on PFAS are progressing, and the use of alternative materials that do not use fluorine atoms is being considered.

[0003] As an alternative material, for example, Patent Document 1 describes a liquid repellent containing a silicone polymerizable resin ([Claim 1][Claim 8]).

[0004] Japanese Patent Publication No. 2023-169574

[0005] The present inventors investigated a composition containing a liquid repellent described in Patent Document 1 and found that the antifouling properties of the film (including the cured product of the composition) formed using the composition were poor.

[0006] Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a composition that can form a film with excellent stain resistance, as well as a film, an optical film, and an image display device.

[0007] As a result of diligent research to achieve the above objectives, the present inventors have discovered that a film with excellent antifouling properties can be formed by using a composition containing a copolymer (antifouling agent) having repeating units A derived from a hydrophobic monomer and repeating units B having a predetermined structure such as a polyalkylene oxide structure, and having a weight-average molecular weight in the range of 2,000 to 500,000. Thus, the present inventors have completed the present invention. In other words, the present inventors have found that the above objectives can be solved by the following configuration.

[4] The composition according to [3], wherein repeating unit A has at least two types: a repeating unit represented by formula (2) described later and a repeating unit represented by formula (3) described later. [5] The composition according to any one of [1] to [4], wherein the content of repeating unit A is 40% by mass or more with respect to the total mass of all repeating units of the copolymer. [6] The composition according to any one of [1] to [5], wherein the copolymer further comprises a repeating unit C containing a crosslinkable group. [7] The composition according to [6], wherein the crosslinkable group is at least one group selected from the group consisting of epoxy group, oxetane group, alkoxysilane group, vinyl group, styryl group, acryloyl group, methacryloyl group, and maleimide group. [8] The composition according to [6] or [7], wherein the repeating unit (C) does not contain either a hydroxyl group or a urethane bond. [9] The composition according to any one of [6] to [8], wherein the content of repeating unit A is 60 to 90% by mass, the content of repeating unit B is 5 to 35% by mass, and the content of repeating unit C is 5 to 35% by mass, based on the total mass of all repeating units of the copolymer.

[10] The composition according to any one of [1] to [9], further comprising a curable monomer.

[11] The composition according to

[10] , wherein the curable monomer is a compound having two or more acryloyl groups or methacryloyl groups.

[0010] The present invention will now be described in detail. The following descriptions of constituent elements may be based on representative embodiments of the present invention, but the present invention is not limited to such embodiments. In this specification, numerical ranges expressed using "~" mean ranges that include the numbers written before and after "~" as lower and upper limits. In this specification, an upper or lower limit stated in a numerical range described in steps may be replaced with an upper or lower limit in another numerical range described in steps. In addition, an upper or lower limit stated in a numerical range described in this specification may be replaced with a value shown in the examples. In this specification, each component may be made using one substance alone or two or more substances in combination. Here, when two or more substances are used in combination for each component, the content for that component refers to the total content of the substances used in combination, unless otherwise specified. In this specification, the bonding direction of the divalent group (e.g., -O-CO-) is not particularly limited, for example, "L 1 -L 2 -L 3 In the combination of "L 2 If L is -O-CO-, 1 The position where it is joined to the side is *1, L 3 If we denote the position where it is joined to the side as *2, then L 2 *1-O-CO-*2 may also be *1-CO-O-*2.

[0011] In this specification, Re(λ) and Rth(λ) represent the in-plane retardation and thickness-direction retardation at wavelength λ, respectively. [0013] [Composition] The composition of the present invention is a composition containing an antifouling agent. The antifouling agent contained in the composition of the present invention is a copolymer having a repeating unit A derived from a hydrophobic monomer, and a repeating unit B comprising at least one structure selected from the group consisting of a polyalkylene oxide structure, a polyester structure, and a structure containing two or more monocyclic aromatic rings (hereinafter also referred to as "specific copolymer"). The weight average molecular weight of the specific copolymer is 2000 to 500000. The specific copolymer preferably does not contain a fluorine atom in the repeating unit A, and more preferably is a copolymer containing no fluorine atom.

[0014] As described above, in the present invention, a film with excellent antifouling properties can be formed by using a composition containing a specific copolymer. The details of this reason are not yet clear, but the inventors speculate that it is due to the following reasons. First, since the specific copolymer has repeating units A, it is thought to be unevenly distributed on the surface of the film. Here, the copolymer used in Comparative Example 1 (i.e., the water repellent corresponding to Patent Document 1), which will be described later, has repeating units A similar to those in Example 1, but does not have repeating units B, resulting in poor antifouling properties of the film. This result is thought to be because, when using the composition containing the copolymer used in Comparative Example 1, a uniform film could not be formed due to reasons such as the occurrence of repelling. Therefore, in the present invention, because the specific copolymer has repeating units B, the portion of repeating units A is more likely to face the air interface side of the film, so the occurrence of repelling is suppressed, and as a result, a uniform film is formed and the antifouling properties are improved. The specific copolymer contained in the composition of the present invention, as well as any optional components, will be described in detail below.

[0015] [Specific Copolymer] The specific copolymer (i.e., antifouling agent) contained in the composition of the present invention, as described above, has repeating units A derived from a hydrophobic monomer and repeating units B comprising at least one structure selected from the group consisting of a polyalkylene oxide structure, a polyester structure, and a structure containing two or more monocyclic aromatic rings. Furthermore, the weight-average molecular weight of the specific copolymer is 2,000 to 500,000, as described above.

[0016] In the present invention, the weight-average molecular weight of the specific copolymer is preferably 25,000 to 500,000, more preferably 25,000 to 100,000, and even more preferably 25,000 to 60,000, for the reason that the antifouling properties of the formed film are better. Here, the weight-average molecular weight in the present invention is the value measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) under the following conditions. • Solvent (eluent): Tetrahydrofuran • Instrument name: EcoSEC HLC-8320GPC (Tosoh Corporation) • Columns: Three columns connected together: TSKgel SuperHZM-H, TSKgel SuperHZ4000, and TSKgel SuperHZ200 (all Tosoh Corporation) • Column temperature: 40°C • Sample concentration: 0.1% by mass • Flow rate: 0.35 ml / min • Calibration curve: Calibration curve using six samples of TOSOH TSK standard polystyrene Mw = 706000 to 1013 (Mw / Mn = 1.03 to 1.06) was used.

[0017] <Repeating Unit A> The repeating unit A of the specific copolymer is a repeating unit derived from a hydrophobic monomer. Here, a hydrophobic monomer is a monomer whose CLogP value calculated by ChemDraw is greater than 4. As the hydrophobic monomer, monomers having a hydrophobic group and a polymerizable group are preferred. As the hydrophobic group, it is preferable to have an alkyl group having 1 to 50 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2 to 50 carbon atoms having at least one (preferably 2 to 60, more preferably 4 to 20) silicon atoms as substituents, or an alkyl group having 4 or more carbon atoms (preferably 5 to 50, more preferably 5 to 40 carbon atoms) having two or more (preferably 3 or more, more preferably 4 to 10) terminal methyl groups. As the polymerizable group, known radical polymerizable groups and cationic polymerizable groups are preferred, and acryloyl groups or methacryloyl groups are more preferred.

[0018] In the present invention, it is preferable that the repeating unit A is at least one of the repeating units represented by the following formulas (2) to (4) for the reason that the antifouling properties of the formed film are better. Of these, it is preferable that the repeating unit A includes at least two types: the repeating unit represented by the following formula (2) and the repeating unit represented by the following formula (3) for the reason that the antifouling properties of the formed film are even better.

Therefore, the scope of the present invention should not be interpreted as being limited by the examples shown below.

[0107] [Synthesis of Copolymers] Copolymers B-1 to B-8 and B-13 having repeating units A to C of the types shown in Table 1 below were synthesized. The structure of each repeating unit, indicated by type in Table 1 below, is the same as that of the specific example illustrated above. Similarly, copolymers B-9 to B-12, B-14 to B-16 and C-1 having repeating units A to C of the types shown in Table 1 below were synthesized. The weight-average molecular weights of copolymers B-1 to B-16 and C-1 are shown in Table 1 below.

[0108] [Examples 1-20 and Comparative Example 1] Copolymers B-1 to B-16 and C-1 were each diluted to 0.5% by mass with methyl isobutyl ketone, and a polymerization initiator (Omnirad 184, manufactured by BASF) at a concentration of 3% by mass relative to the mass of each copolymer was added to prepare the composition.

[0109] [Evaluation] [Preparation of evaluation samples] The prepared composition was coated onto a PET sheet with a film thickness of 100 μm with a clearance of 50 μm. The resulting film was irradiated with ultraviolet light using a metal halide lamp (manufactured by I-Graphics Co., Ltd.) at 75°C under a nitrogen atmosphere (oxygen concentration 100 vol ppm) (irradiation dose: 500 mJ / cm²). 2 ), prepare evaluation samples.

[0110] [Repulsion] When preparing evaluation samples, the coating surface is visually inspected and evaluated for repulsion according to the following evaluation criteria. The results are shown in Table 1 below. <Evaluation Criteria> A: No repulsion is observed. B: Some repulsion is observed. E: Repulsion is observed across the entire surface.

[0111] [Fouling Resistance] Generally, the lower the surface energy, the better the fouling resistance. Therefore, fouling resistance is evaluated by measuring the surface energy. Specifically, the contact angle of the evaluation sample prepared above is measured with water and diiodomethane using a contact angle meter DMo-702 manufactured by Kyowa Interface Chemical Co., Ltd. The contact angle 10 seconds after application is measured five times, and the average value is calculated. From the obtained contact angles of water and diiodomethane, the surface energy is calculated using the Owens and Wendt formula and evaluated according to the evaluation criteria below. The results are shown in Table 1 below. <Evaluation Criteria> A: Surface energy less than 17 mN / m B: Surface energy 17 mN / m or more and less than 20 mN / m C: Surface energy 20 mN / m or more and less than 25 mN / m D: Surface energy 25 mN / m or more and less than 35 mN / m E: Surface energy 35 mN / m or more

[0112] [Slipperiness] When a SUS (Steel Use Stainless) ball is rolled while a 100g load is applied to the prepared evaluation sample, the load is measured, the coefficient of dynamic friction is measured, and it is evaluated according to the following criteria. The results are shown in Table 1 below. Note that a lower coefficient of dynamic friction indicates better slipperiness. <Evaluation Criteria> A: Coefficient of dynamic friction is less than 0.10 B: Coefficient of dynamic friction is 0.10 or more and less than 0.20 C: Coefficient of dynamic friction is 0.20 or more and less than 0.30 D: Coefficient of dynamic friction is 0.30 or more and less than 0.40 E: Coefficient of dynamic friction is 0.40 or more

[0113]

[0114] The results shown in Table 1 show that when a copolymer without repeating unit B is used, repulsion occurs, resulting in poor antifouling and slipperiness of the resulting film (Comparative Example 1). In contrast, when a specific copolymer having repeating units A and B and a weight-average molecular weight of 2,000 to 500,000 is used, repulsion is suppressed, and the resulting film exhibits good antifouling and slipperiness (Examples 1 to 20). In particular, a comparison between Example 1 and Example 2 shows that when the weight-average molecular weight of the specific copolymer is 25,000 to 500,000, the antifouling properties of the formed film are even better. Furthermore, a comparison between Example 1 and Example 3 shows that when the specific copolymer has repeating unit C, the antifouling properties and slipperiness of the formed film are even better. Finally, a comparison between Example 3 and Example 6 shows that when repeating unit A consists of two types, the repeating unit represented by formula (2) and the repeating unit represented by formula (3), the antifouling properties of the formed film are even better. Furthermore, a comparison of Examples 3, 11, and 12 shows that if the repeating unit C contains neither a hydroxyl group nor a urethane bond, the antifouling properties of the formed film are improved. A comparison of Example 3 and Example 13 shows that if the content of repeating unit A is more than 60% by mass relative to the total mass of all repeating units of the specific copolymer, the antifouling properties of the formed film are improved. A comparison of Examples 13 to 16 shows that if the content of repeating unit A is 40% by mass or more relative to the total mass of all repeating units of the specific copolymer, the antifouling properties of the formed film are improved.

[0115] [Example 21] A composition with the following composition was prepared. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Composition ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ・0.5 parts by mass of the above copolymer B-1 ・0.5 parts by mass of the above copolymer B-2 ・0.5 parts by mass of the above copolymer C-1 ・100 parts by mass of dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate (trade name: DPHA, manufactured by Daicel Ornex) ・3 parts by mass of polymerization initiator (Omnirad 184, manufactured by BASF) ・100 parts by mass of methyl isobutyl ketone -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[0116] Using the prepared composition, evaluation samples were made in the same manner as in Example 1, and the repellency, stain resistance, and slipperiness were evaluated in the same manner as in Example 1. All evaluation results were favorable.
