Abstract
Description
Ankle sprain prevention brace and shoes including the brace
[0001] The embodiments disclosed in this document relate to an ankle sprain prevention brace and a shoe including the brace, and more specifically, to an ankle sprain prevention brace and a shoe including the brace that is inserted into the inside or outside of a shoe such as a hiking boot, and adheres to a part of the wearer's sole and the inner side of the ankle to prevent the wearer's ankle from twisting, and by limiting only the inner twisting of the ankle according to a structure that does not completely wrap the ankle and ensuring the rest of the range of motion, thereby providing convenience and protecting the heel from impacts such as strong pressure by preventing the heel from coming into direct contact with the brace.
[0002] Ankle sprain prevention braces are supports designed to assist during activities where ankle sprains may occur, such as hiking, walking, running, and exercise.
[0003] The ankle is the part of the body where the leg and foot are connected. It is the joint where the two bones of the lower leg, the fibula and the tibia, meet the malleolus of the foot. It is a joint used when walking or running and is the part of the body that bears the most weight.
[0004] In particular, the ankle is composed of ligaments made of tough fibrous tissue that connect the bones; however, with the recent increase in the number of people participating in sports, constant pressure and stress on the ankles are frequently occurring, leading to stretched or torn ligaments.
[0005] In the case of these ankle ligaments, damage to the ankle ligaments is a condition that can occur due to minor causes, to the extent that it is referred to as a lifestyle foot disease. It occurs easily in people with unstable walking or running postures, and 98% of sprain lesions are caused by medial twisting. In fact, according to statistics surveyed by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in 2022, the prevalence rate is high, with more than 1.3 million people receiving treatment for ankle ligament damage annually.
[0006] If ankle ligaments are left untreated, they can lead to ankle instability, ankle cartilage damage, and ankle arthritis. These conditions can only be treated through surgery, and a significant amount of time must be dedicated to functional rehabilitation after the operation. Furthermore, even after undergoing surgery and rehabilitation, there are cases where normal function, similar to that before the injury, cannot be expected.
[0007] Accordingly, although it varies depending on the extent of ankle ligament damage, non-surgical conservative treatment must be performed in the early stages. In addition to methods such as physical therapy and ligament-strengthening injections, a rehabilitation process is essential to restore function while immobilizing the ankle ligaments to prevent further deterioration of the damage.
[0008] Patent No. 10-0507461 (Patent) relates to an ankle brace comprising at least one flexible bracing element anatomically suitable for the lower leg, ankle and foot, at least on the medial side, wherein the ankle brace has a recess in a position suitable for exposing the medial ankle joint and a substantially flat sole portion on the foot, wherein the ankle brace is formed of two shell parts asymmetric to each other, namely a substantially flexible central part having one or more local stiffening elements and a lateral part (11) that is substantially more elastic than the central part.
[0009] The aforementioned prior art primarily describes that shell portions are configured to be in close contact with both sides of the ankle, and that local reinforcement materials are configured in each shell portion to increase durability.
[0010] In other words, conventional technology has a structure that completely restricts ankle movement by adhering closely to both sides of the ankle. In particular, due to the separate local reinforcement material, it has a relatively thick form, which can cause discomfort when the wearer puts on shoes after wearing the brace, and there is a problem that the shoes become heavier overall as the thickness of the ankle brace increases.
[0011] In addition, the prior art has a structure in which the back part of the wearer's foot extends the lower part of each shell portion and comes into direct contact with the sole portion where the back part of the wearer's foot rests, and when continuous pressure is applied due to the wearer's weight load or walking, pain is inevitably caused by frequent friction and impact with the sole portion. Accordingly, while it is possible to protect against ankle sprains by protecting the ankle when worn for a long time, there is a problem that plantar fasciitis may occur due to frequent impact to the heel.
[0012] Various embodiments disclosed in this document provide an ankle sprain prevention protector that absorbs impact from body weight from a part of the sole of the foot to prevent ankle sprains as well as plantar fasciitis, and a shoe including said protector.
[0013] According to one embodiment, the ankle sprain prevention protector comprises: a seating portion (10) on which a part of the wearer's sole rests; and an extension portion (20) that extends upward from one end of the seating portion (10) and comes into close contact with the inner side of the wearer's ankle. A hollow first avoidance portion (30) is formed in the central part of one side of the extension portion (20) so as not to interfere with the wearer's ankle bone, and a hollow second avoidance portion (40) is formed in the central part of the seating portion (10) so as not to come into contact with the wearer's heel.
[0014] According to one embodiment, a guide portion (50) is formed in the seating portion (10), which extends upward from the other end where the extension portion (20) is not formed, and is formed lower than the upper side of the extension portion (20).
[0015] According to one embodiment, the guide portion (50) is formed such that its width gradually narrows as it moves upward from the seating portion (10), and it is inclined toward the ankle side to be in close contact, and the upper side of the guide portion (50) is located below the wearer's ankle bone.
[0016] According to one embodiment, a first cushion portion (60) having elasticity that substantially contacts the wearer's foot is configured on the upper part of the seating portion (10), so that when the wearer's foot is seated on the cushion portion (60), the heel is configured not to interfere with the seating portion (10).
[0017] According to one embodiment, one or more insertion grooves (13) or insertion guides are formed on both upper sides of the seating portion (10), and a projection (63) or a projection guide corresponding to the insertion groove (13) or projection guide is formed on the lower side of the first cushion portion (60), so that the insertion groove (13) or insertion guide of the first cushion portion (60) is fitted into the projection (63) or projection guide and fixed.
[0018] According to one embodiment, a stepped portion (61) is formed protrudingly on the lower part of the first cushion portion (60) so that it can be fitted and fixed to the second avoidance portion (40).
[0019] According to one embodiment, a second cushion part (70) is formed on the inner side of the extension part (20) in whole or in part so as to prevent chafing or tearing of the inner side of the ankle due to frequent friction or impact with the inner side of the wearer's ankle.
[0020] According to one embodiment, the extension part (20) is configured such that its upper portion is positioned close to the end of the wearer's calf to prevent the inner side of the ankle from bending, and the extension part (20) is formed in a structure that wraps around the inner side of the ankle by bending and curving upward from the portion extending from the seating part (10).
[0021] According to one embodiment, a third avoidance portion (25) is formed on one rear side of the extension portion (20) to avoid interference with the wearer's ankle heel.
[0022] According to one embodiment, when the ankle sprain prevention protector is configured on the outer side of the shoe, the seating portion (10) is positioned between the sole (3) and the upper (5) of the shoe, and the extension portion (20) is in close contact with the outer side of the upper (5) facing the inner ankle of the wearer. On one side of the seating portion (10), a groove portion (13) is formed so as to be fixed to the sole (3) or the upper (5) of the shoe, and on the extension portion (20), a groove (27) or a protrusion is formed so as to be fixed by being caught or fitted into a catch means (5a) formed on the outer side of the upper (5).
[0023] According to one embodiment, a shoe configured to include an ankle sprain prevention protector (10) comprises a sole (3) that comes into contact with the ground; and an upper (5) configured on the upper part of the sole (3) to wrap around the wearer's foot, and between the sole (3) and the upper (5), the sprain prevention protector (1) is positioned.
[0024] Ankle sprain prevention braces and shoes including said braces according to various embodiments disclosed in this document maintain the original purpose of the ankle sprain prevention brace while providing a structure that allows the heel to avoid contact with the seating portion when worn by the wearer. This ensures that when weight loads or impacts are applied during prolonged walking, the cushioning force of the first cushioning portion is transmitted as is, thereby minimizing impact to the heel, such as in cases of plantar fasciitis, and providing comfort. Furthermore, the upper length of the extension portion supporting the medial side of the ankle is positioned close to the wearer's calf and adheres to the medial side of the ankle. In the event of ankle twisting, the end of the third extension portion supports the tibia, thereby preventing ankle twisting. By limiting only medial twisting, the range of motion of the foot excluding the medial side is guaranteed, ensuring a comfortable fit and exercise. Additionally, due to the configuration of the guide portion, the roundness of the guide portion prevents twisting of the foot inside the shoe when ankle twisting occurs, and the force generated by the third extension portion is transmitted to the guide portion, ensuring even force distribution to the edge of the foot. Ensure safety by dispersing.
[0025] In addition to this, various effects that can be identified directly or indirectly through this document are provided.

[0041] In relation to the description of the drawings, the same reference number is assigned to identical or corresponding components.
[0042] Preferred embodiments according to the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the attached drawings. Prior to this, terms and words used in this specification and claims should not be interpreted as being limited to their ordinary or dictionary meanings. Instead, based on the principle that the inventor may appropriately define the concepts of terms to best describe his invention, they should be interpreted in a meaning and concept consistent with the technical spirit of the present invention.
[0043] Therefore, the embodiments described in this specification and the configurations illustrated in the drawings are merely the most preferred embodiments of the present invention and do not represent all of the technical ideas of the present invention; thus, it should be understood that various equivalents and modifications that can replace them may exist at the time of filing this application.
[0044] The present invention provides an ankle sprain prevention protector and a shoe including the protector, which is inserted into the inner and outer parts of a shoe, such as a hiking boot, and adheres closely to a part of the wearer's sole and the inner side of the ankle to prevent the wearer's ankle from twisting. By having a structure that does not completely wrap around the ankle, it restricts only the inward twisting of the ankle and ensures the rest of the range of motion, thereby providing convenience and protecting the heel from impacts such as strong pressure by preventing the heel from coming into direct contact with the protector.
[0045] Hereinafter, the preferred configuration and operation of the present invention for achieving the above objective in relation to the attached drawings will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 15 as follows.
[0046] First, before describing the present invention, let us examine its configuration. An ankle sprain prevention protector comprises a seating portion (10) on which a part of the wearer's sole rests, and an extension portion (20) that extends upward from one end of the seating portion (10) and comes into close contact with the inner side of the wearer's ankle. In the extension portion (20), a hollow first avoidance portion (30) is formed in the central part of one side so as not to interfere with the wearer's ankle bone, and in the seating portion (10), a hollow second avoidance portion (40) is formed in the central part so as not to come into contact with the wearer's heel.
[0047] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the above-mentioned seating portion (10) is a part on which the wearer's sole rests, and is formed in a shape corresponding to the wearer's sole, and is made of a synthetic resin material.
[0048] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the extension part (20) is formed to extend upward from one side of the seating part (10) and is configured to be in close contact with the inner part of the wearer's ankle. Looking at the structure in which the extension part (20) contacts the ankle, it is formed with a first extension part (21) that covers the side that forms the boundary between the sole of the foot and the ankle, a second extension part (22) that contacts and covers a part of the back ankle to avoid the malleolus, and a third extension part (23) that forms a boundary with the upper part of the ankle, the part where the shinbone is located, and the end of the calf.
[0049] Here, the second extension part (22) is configured to extend the first and third extension parts (21, 23) by the structure of the first avoidance part (30) to be described below, and is also configured to wrap around the ankle and be in close contact.
[0050] In other words, the extension part (20) is substantially attached to the inner side of the ankle when the wearer wears the ankle sprain prevention protector of the present invention, thereby preventing the ankle from bending.
[0051] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the structure of the extension part (20) is such that the upper side of the extension part (20) is positioned close to the end of the wearer's calf, thereby preventing the inner side of the ankle from bending. At this time, the part extending from the seating part (10) is formed to be curved and bent upwards to wrap around the inner side of the ankle.
[0052] That is, the end of the third extension part (23) supports the tibia and prevents the ankle from bending, and is structured to restrict only the medial bending, thereby ensuring the range of motion of the foot excluding the medial side, so as to ensure a comfortable fit and exercise.
[0053] The reason the extension part (20) of the present invention is formed to extend only from one side of the seating part (10), as shown in FIG. 11, is that the extension part (20) is structured to be in close contact with the ankle, so as not to restrict other movements of the ankle, i.e., the direction of movement, in addition to preventing the inner side of the ankle from folding.
[0054] In other words, conventional ankle sprain prevention braces are formed from a synthetic material with relatively high rigidity for the purpose of preventing the ankle from twisting. However, if the extension part (20) of the present invention is formed on each side of the upper part of the seating part, the inner and outer sides of the ankle can be completely fixed, but the movement of the ankle is very restricted. Furthermore, when wearing an ankle sprain prevention brace with the extension part (20) formed on both sides inside a shoe, the wearer's fit is very uncomfortable, and due to the volume of the ankle sprain prevention brace, a size larger than the wearer's foot size must be worn. If a larger size shoe is worn, even if the ankle part is fixed, other parts become loose, and especially when hiking, there is a risk of causing a more serious injury.
[0055] In order to supplement and overcome the problems of these conventional technologies, the present invention is configured such that the extension part (20) extends upward only from one side of the seating part (10), thereby preventing ankle sprains caused by inward bending of the ankle, while not restricting the range of motion of the ankle in other directions, thus providing convenience in use.
[0056] Here, as illustrated in FIGS. 1, 2, and 5, a hollow first side-avoiding portion (30) is formed in the central part of one side of the extension portion (20) so as not to interfere with the wearer's ankle bone (ankle bone). When the ankle sprain prevention protector is worn with the first side-avoiding portion (30), the ankle bone (ankle bone) is positioned on the first side-avoiding portion (30) so as not to come into contact with the extension portion (20), thereby preventing friction and improving the wearing comfort.
[0057] When the first avoidance portion (30) is formed in a completely open shape on one side of the extension portion (20), there is an advantage in that it can be worn conveniently and the collision between the ankle bone (ankle bone) and the extension portion (20) can be fundamentally blocked. When the first avoidance portion (30) is formed in a groove shape rather than an open structure on the extension portion (20), the durability of the extension portion (20) can be increased, thereby further increasing the support and fixation force in the event of ankle bending.
[0058] The above second avoidance portion (40) is a core component of the present invention, and as shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the seating portion (10) is configured so as not to come into contact with the wearer's heel in the central part.
[0059] That is, as explained above, since the material is formed from a synthetic resin material having relatively high rigidity to perform the role of a protective device for preventing ankle sprains, when a wearer puts the ankle sprain prevention protective device of the present invention into a shoe, it is bound to be subjected to weight load due to continuous movement. At this time, if the heel part comes into direct contact with the hard seating part (10), it may cause pain in the sole of the foot, and in severe cases, even plantar fasciitis may occur.
[0060] In order to overcome these problems, the present invention configures the second avoidance part (40) so that even if the wearer's weight load is applied, the heel does not feel contact with the seating part (10) at all.
[0061] In addition, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2, and 5, a third avoidance portion (25) is formed on one rear side of the extension portion (20) to avoid interference with the wearer's ankle heel, thereby improving the wearing comfort.
[0062] Looking at the structure of the third avoidance part (25) above, the part extending from the extension part (20) is formed in a rounded shape to match the shape of the wearer's ankle, thereby minimizing friction with the ankle and preventing phenomena such as chafing of the ankle heel.
[0063] Here, on the upper part of the above-mentioned seating portion (10), as shown in FIG. 6, a first cushion portion (60) having elasticity that substantially contacts the wearer's foot is configured so that when the wearer's foot is seated on the cushion portion (60), the heel does not interfere with the seating portion (10).
[0064] That is, after the first cushion part (60) is configured on the upper part of the seating part (10), when a wearer wears the ankle sprain prevention protector, the weight load is increased by the force generated by movement due to walking in addition to the wearer's body weight. At this time, the first cushion part (60) is pressed by the pressure due to the wearer's weight load, and although the wearer's sole does not come into direct contact with the seating part (10), as the first cushion part (60) is made of a synthetic resin material with relatively high rigidity, the feeling of the wearer's sole coming into contact with the seating part (10) is inevitably conveyed as the first cushion part (60) is pressed by the weight load.
[0065] However, in the present invention, as shown in FIG. 7, a second avoidance portion (40) is formed at the rear of the seating portion (10) to improve the wearing comfort and mitigate shock to the heel, so that when the first cushion portion (60) is pressed by the weight load, the wearer's heel does not feel contact with the seating portion (10), thereby improving the wearing comfort.
[0066] As explained earlier, frequent impact to the heel can lead to a condition called plantar fasciitis, but this can be prevented in advance. Furthermore, since wearers (patients) undergoing treatment for plantar fasciitis tend to wear shoes with cushioning for the purpose of improving treatment, this structure is very useful for such wearers.
[0067] In addition, the primary objective of the present invention is to be inserted into shoes worn by hikers, for whom ankle sprains can occur very frequently. In the case of hiking, one must move along very steep uphill or downhill paths, such as straight or curved sections, and there may be various obstacles depending on the conditions of the site. At this time, on uphill or downhill paths, force is naturally applied to the ankles, and a greater weight load is inevitably placed on them. Therefore, when the structure of the cushioning part (60) and the second avoidance part (40) of the present invention is applied to shoes worn by such hikers, the effect can be maximized.
[0068] Additionally, as shown in FIG. 8, one or more insertion grooves (13) or insertion guides are formed on both upper sides of the seating portion (10), and a projection (63) or a projection guide corresponding to the insertion groove (13) or projection guide is formed on the lower side of the first cushion portion (60), so that the insertion groove (13) or insertion guide of the first cushion portion (60) can be fitted into and fixed to the projection (63) or projection guide.
[0069] The structure of the seating portion (10) and the first cushion portion (60) allows the first cushion portion (60) to be inserted into a shoe and used continuously with the first cushion portion (60) seated on the upper part of the seating portion (10). However, due to various other factors such as the wearer's weight load and sweat accumulation, the first cushion portion (60) may twist or detach from the upper part of the seating portion (10). To compensate for this problem, the first cushion portion (60) can be prevented from easily detaching through a mutually interlocking structure.
[0070] Additionally, as illustrated in FIGS. 9 and 10, when a weight load is applied to the first cushion part (60) while the first cushion part (60) is seated on the upper part of the seating part (10), the second avoidance part (40) is formed hollow, so the part facing the second avoidance part (40) is pressed more, which may cause some discomfort. Depending on the weight load applied and the thickness of the first cushion part (60), the wearer may feel a sensation of contact between their heel and the seating part (10). In addition to these problems, in order to fundamentally prevent twisting in addition to the insertion groove (13) and the projection (63) structure while the first cushion part (60) is seated on the seating part (10), a step part (61) is formed protruding from the lower part of the first cushion part (60) so that it can be fitted and fixed to the second avoidance part (40). The above step portion (61) is formed to correspond to the size of the second avoidance portion (40) so that it can fill the groove and simultaneously completely block twisting.
[0071] Meanwhile, as illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 4, a guide portion (50) is formed in the seating portion (10) that extends upward from the other end where the extension portion (20) is not formed, and is formed lower than the upper side of the extension portion (20). When the wearer's foot is placed on the seating portion (10), the sole of the foot is placed on the seating portion (10) and fixed, the inner side of the ankle is fixed by being in close contact with the extension portion (20), and the outer edge of the foot is fixed by the guide portion (50). As a result, the ankle sprain prevention protector is completely fixed to the wearer's foot, thereby preventing it from twisting or coming off the wearer's foot during movement, such as frequent walking.
[0072] Here, the guide portion (50) is formed with a rounded boundary between the seating portion (10) and the guide portion (50) to increase the area in order to disperse pressure concentrated at the end of the foot, and due to this structure, when an ankle twist occurs, the guide portion (50) prevents the foot from twisting inside the shoe, and when the force generated from the third extension portion (23) is transmitted to the guide portion (50), the force is evenly distributed to the foot, thereby ensuring safety.
[0073] Additionally, the guide portion (50) is formed such that its width gradually narrows as it moves upward from the seating portion (10), and it is inclined toward the ankle side to be in close contact. The upper side of the guide portion (50) is positioned below the wearer's ankle bone, so that it is formed at a height that does not interfere at all with the ankle bone (ankle bone) on the outer side of the foot, thereby enhancing the wearing comfort. It may also be configured such that the inner end of the guide portion (50) substantially overlaps the boundary between the side of the wearer's sole and the upper part.
[0074] In other words, the guide portion (50) is configured to extend from the seating portion (10), and its height can be selectively determined and manufactured according to the request of the wearer or the purpose of use. In the present invention, as shown in FIG. 12, the guide portion (50) may be completely absent; as shown in FIG. 13 and 14, when the upper side of the guide portion (50) is seated on the first cushion portion (60), it may be formed at the same height as the upper height of the first cushion portion (60); or as shown in FIG. 6, it may be formed higher than the first cushion portion (60). The embodiments of the present invention are not limited to this.
[0075] In addition, on the inner side of the extension part (20), as shown in FIG. 11, a second cushion part (70) is formed wholly or partially to prevent chafing or tearing of the inner side of the ankle due to frequent friction or impact with the inner side of the wearer's ankle.
[0076] With the configuration of the second cushion part (70), the skin on the inner side of the ankle can be protected even when walking or hiking for a long time.
[0077] Meanwhile, the ankle sprain prevention protector of the present invention may be configured on the inner side of the shoe or on the outer side of the shoe as shown in FIG. 15. In FIG. 15, the image of the shoe placed at the top is an image representing the first side of the shoe, and the image of the shoe placed at the bottom is an image representing the second side of the shoe (e.g., a side located opposite the first side).
[0078] When the above ankle sprain prevention protector is configured on the outer side of the shoe, the seating portion (10) is positioned between the sole (3) and the upper (5) of the shoe, and the extension portion (20) is in close contact with the outer side of the upper (5) facing the inner ankle of the wearer, and as shown in FIG. 1, a groove portion (13) is formed on one side of the seating portion (10) so as to be fixed to the sole (3) or the upper (5) of the shoe, and a groove (27) or a protrusion is formed on the extension portion (20) so as to be fixed by being caught or fitted into a catch means formed on the outer side of the upper (5).
[0079] The seating portion (10) of the above ankle sprain prevention protector is positioned between the sole (3) and the upper (5) of the shoe, and an insole or a first cushion portion (60) is placed on the seating portion (10), and the extension portion (20) is in close contact with the upper (5), so that the upper (5) primarily wraps a part of the wearer's ankle, and the inner side of the ankle is fixed by the extension portion (20) being in close contact, thereby having the same or similar effect as being positioned inside the shoe.
[0080] According to the ankle sprain prevention brace and the shoe including said brace of the present invention, while maintaining the original purpose of the ankle sprain prevention brace, a structure is provided that allows the heel of the ankle to avoid contact with the seating portion when the wearer wears it. Consequently, when weight load or impact is applied due to walking for a long time, the cushioning force of the first cushion portion is transmitted as is, thereby minimizing impact on the heel, such as in cases of plantar fasciitis, and providing comfort. Furthermore, the upper length of the extension portion supporting the medial side of the ankle is positioned close to the wearer's calf and adheres to the medial side of the ankle. When ankle twisting occurs, the end of the third extension portion supports the tibia, thereby preventing ankle twisting. By limiting only medial twisting, the range of motion of the foot excluding the medial side is guaranteed, ensuring a comfortable fit and exercise. Additionally, due to the configuration of the guide portion, when ankle twisting occurs, the roundness of the guide portion prevents twisting of the foot inside the shoe, and the force generated by the third extension portion is transmitted to the guide portion, evenly distributing the force to the edge of the foot, thereby ensuring safety. It is a useful invention that is secured.
[0081] As described above, although the present invention has been explained by limited embodiments and drawings, the present invention is not limited thereto, and it is obvious that various modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the technical spirit of the present invention and the equivalent scope of the claims described below by those skilled in the art to which the present invention belongs.
