Description

Water-in-oil type cosmetic composition for UV protection and method for manufacturing the same

[0001] This invention relates to an in-water type cosmetic composition for UV protection and a method for manufacturing the same.

[0002] Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a factor that has a highly harmful effect on skin health. It penetrates the dermis to destroy structural proteins such as collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles and a loss of elasticity. Additionally, it causes direct DNA damage in the epidermis, promoting inflammatory responses and pigmentation, thereby inducing various types of skin damage. In particular, prolonged exposure to UV radiation increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), inducing oxidative stress. This accelerates the aging of skin cells and, in severe cases, can lead to skin cancer.

[0003] Recently, due to environmental issues such as global warming and ozone depletion, the UV index has been continuously rising, and the need for continuous year-round UV protection is becoming increasingly important. Under these circumstances, it is essential to use waterproof sunscreens that do not easily wash off with sweat or water; however, conventional waterproof sunscreens contain oil as an external agent to enhance skin adhesion. Nevertheless, these water-in-oil type sunscreens present problems, such as an unpleasant and heavy sensation that feels stuffy and sticky on the skin, and they do not wash off easily during cleansing, which can clog pores and cause skin irritation. Additionally, water-in-oil type sunscreens may suffer from reduced waterproof efficacy.

[0004] On the other hand, increasing the concentration of UV-blocking ingredients for effective protection leads to a pronounced white cast in the formulation, resulting in an unnatural skin tone and exacerbating the heavy, sticky texture. This white cast and heavy feel reduce consumers' usage frequency and application amount of sunscreen, ultimately preventing them from achieving sufficient UV protection. Therefore, innovative formulation technology is required that can maintain excellent protection while controlling the concentration of UV-blocking ingredients to an appropriate level.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need to develop a new formulation of a sunscreen cosmetic composition that can minimize white cast and provide a refreshing feel to the skin by optimizing the content of sunscreen ingredients, while maintaining excellent UV protection and waterproof performance.

[0006] Accordingly, the inventors developed an in-water type waterproof cosmetic composition for UV protection by controlling the content of UV-blocking ingredients, and completed the present invention by confirming that the composition has excellent texture, moisture, water resistance, and UV-blocking efficacy.

[0053] [Example]

[0054] Examples 1–11. Preparation of water-in-oil type cosmetic compositions for UV protection

[0055] An oil-in-water type cosmetic composition for UV protection was prepared as follows. The specific ingredients and contents of the composition are as shown in Table 1 below.

[0056] Specifically, the aqueous phase and the thickening agent were placed in a stirrer and stirred at 5,000 rpm for about 5 to 10 minutes, after which the mixture was heated to 80 ℃. Thereby, the oil phase was also heated to 80 ℃ to confirm complete dissolution, and then slowly added using a stirrer while stirring at 3,000 rpm. Once the addition was complete, the stirring speed was increased to 8,000 rpm and stirred for about 10 minutes, after which the mixture was cooled to 30 ℃ to finally prepare the water-in-oil type UV-blocking cosmetic compositions of Examples 1 to 11.

[0057] [Table 1]

[0058]

[0059] [Comparative Example]

[0060] Comparative Example 1. Preparation of a composition not containing hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer

[0061] Comparative Example 1 was prepared in the same manner as Example 1, except that it did not include the hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer, which is the film former of Examples 1 to 11. The specific components and contents of the composition are as shown in Table 2 below.

[0062] [Table 2]

[0063]

[0064] [Experimental Example]

[0065] Experimental Example 1. Evaluation of UV blocking effect

[0066] 1-1. Evaluation through SPF value measurement

[0067] To evaluate the UVB ultraviolet blocking effect of the examples and comparative examples, an experiment was conducted to measure the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value as follows.

[0068] Specifically, UV transmittance was measured by applying a sample to a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA HELIO PLATE HD6) plate and using a UV-2000S (Labsphere, Inc. USA), in reference to the test specifications described in the COLIPA (European Cosmetics Association) "method for the in-vitro determination of UVA protection provided by sunscreen products." The sample application amount was 1.3 mg / cm² as specified in COLIPA. 2 Refer to [the reference] and apply an amount of 1.3 mg × 22 cm to the polymethyl methacrylate plate 2 = 28.6 mg, dried in a dark room for about 15 minutes, and then measured.

[0069] The transmittance was measured in the wavelength range of 290 nm to 400 nm using UV-200S, and the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value was calculated using LABSPHERE. A higher SPF index (ultraviolet protection index) indicates that UV is blocked more effectively, and the SPF index was calculated according to the following Equation 1.

[0070] [Mathematical Formula 1]

[0071]

[0072] As a result, as shown in Table 3 below, it can be seen that the UV blocking effect against UVB is improved in Examples 1 to 9, which contain hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer as the film former, compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 3, which do not contain a film former. Specifically, it was confirmed that Examples 1 to 3, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 1, showed a UV blocking effect improved by approximately 2.5 to 4 times depending on the content of the film former; Examples 4 to 6, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 2, showed a UV blocking effect improved by approximately 1.3 to 2.9 times depending on the content of the film former; and Examples 7 to 9, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 3, showed a UV blocking effect improved by approximately 1.9 to 2.3 times depending on the content of the film former. In particular, it can be seen that Examples 6 to 9 have a significantly superior UV blocking effect.

[0073] [Table 3]

[0074]

[0075] 1-2. Evaluation through PA value measurement

[0076] To evaluate the UVA ultraviolet blocking effect of the examples and comparative examples, an experiment was conducted to measure the PA (Protection Grade of UVA) value as follows.

[0077] Specifically, the UVA protection factor (UVAPF) was measured using the UV-2000S (Labsphere, Inc., USA). The specifications were based on the "Method for in vitro determination of UVA protection" (2009), and the sample application amount was 1.3 mg / cm² as specified by COLIPA (European Cosmetics Association). 2 Refer to [the reference] and apply an amount of 1.3 mg × 22 cm to the polymethyl methacrylate plate2 = 28.6 mg. After drying for about 30 minutes, it was measured.

[0078] As a result, as shown in Table 4 below, it can be seen that the UV blocking effect against UVA is improved in the examples containing hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer as the film former, compared to the comparative example that does not contain a film former. Specifically, it was confirmed that the UV blocking effect is improved depending on the content of the film former in Examples 4 to 6, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 2. In addition, it was confirmed that the UV blocking effect is improved in Example 11, which contains the same amount of diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexyl benzoate as Comparative Example 2, due to the inclusion of hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer, despite having a lower content of UV blocking ingredient. In particular, it can be seen that there is a significantly superior UV blocking effect in Examples 5 to 9 and 11.

[0079] [Table 4]

[0080]

[0081] Experimental Example 2. Evaluation of Sustained Water Resistance

[0082] To evaluate the sustained water resistance of the examples and comparative examples, an experiment was conducted to measure the SPF values before and after the sustained water resistance test as follows.

[0083] For the water resistance UV blocking transmittance, the sample was applied to an HD-6 plate and left for 20 minutes, then attached to the bottom of a 2L beaker. Afterward, 1000ml of 40℃ tap water was added, stirred using an Aji mixer at a rotation speed of 250rpm for 40 minutes, and dried for 30 minutes to measure the SPF value before and after the continuous water resistance test.

[0084] The SPF value measurement above was performed in the same manner as described in the UV blocking power evaluation of Experimental Example 1-1 above.

[0085] As a result, as shown in Table 5 below, it can be seen that sustained water resistance is improved in Examples 1 to 9, which contain hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer as the film former, compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 3, which do not contain a film former. Specifically, Examples 1 to 3, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 1, showed sustained water resistance improved according to the content of the film former, unlike Comparative Example 1, where water resistance could not be measured; Examples 4 to 6, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 2, showed sustained water resistance improved by about 2.9 to 7.9 times according to the content of the film former; and Examples 7 to 9, which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 3, showed sustained water resistance improved by about 4.6 to about 5.8 times according to the content of the film former. In addition, it was confirmed that Example 10, which contains the same amount of ethylhexyl triazone as Comparative Example 2, has improved water resistance due to the inclusion of hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer despite having a low UV blocking ingredient content.

[0086] [Table 5]

[0087]

[0088] Experimental Example 3. Evaluation of Usability and Spreadability

[0089] To evaluate the usability and spreadability of the examples and comparative examples, a sensory evaluation was conducted as follows.

[0090] Specifically, the usability and spreadability of the cosmetic composition were evaluated using a skin panel test. Each sample was dispensed onto the skin and rolled, and the usability and spreadability at the point where the phase changed were tested by 10 panel testers, who rated it on a scale of 1 to 5 points. The average value of the scores evaluated by the 10 panel testers was calculated to determine the usability and spreadability score.

[0091] The evaluation scale was marked as 5 points - very good, 4 points - good, 3 points - average, 2 points - bad, and 1 point - very bad.

[0092] As a result, compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 3 which do not contain a film former, it was found that the usability and spreadability were improved in Examples 1 to 9 which contain a hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer as the film former. Specifically, in Examples 1 to 3 which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 1, the usability and spreadability improved to 5 points depending on the content of the film former; in Examples 4 to 6 which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 2, the usability and spreadability improved to 4 or 5 points depending on the content of the film former; and in Examples 7 to 9 which contain the same amount of UV blocking ingredient as Comparative Example 3, the usability and spreadability improved to 3 or 4 points depending on the content of the film former. In addition, it was confirmed that Example 10, which contains an equal amount of ethylhexyl triazone as Comparative Example 2, and Example 11, which contains an equal amount of diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexyl benzoate, have improved usability and spreadability by containing a hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer.

[0093] In other words, it can be seen that when hydrogenated castor oil / sebasic acid copolymer is included as a film former, the UV protection effect and water resistance are improved, and at the same time, the feel and spreadability are improved.

[0094] [Table 6]

[0095]

[0096] In summary, it was confirmed that a cosmetic composition for sunscreen containing a hydrogenated castor oil / sebacic acid copolymer according to one aspect can be used as an in-water type waterproof cosmetic composition for sunscreen, as it possesses a moist sensation, a fresh feel, and excellent water resistance, as well as an excellent sunscreen effect, despite using a small amount of sunscreen ingredients.
