Abstract
Description
Pointing device equipped with a double-click mode conversion function
[0001] The present invention relates to pointing device technology, and more specifically to a pen-type mouse and its operation technology that stably implements a double-click mode by switching the mode of a second button and controlling a controller.
[0002] Pen-type pointing devices are difficult to fix to a surface, and are prone to minute device movements and hand tremors during clicking, making it difficult to reproduce double-click timing. There are also limitations in implementing scroll interfaces in curved or inclined housings, and the absence of a grip reference point reduces the reproducibility and accuracy of operation. If mode switching and status indicators are unclear, the possibility of misoperation increases. In particular, conventional input device technology is based on a 1:1 correspondence structure that transmits the user's physical input directly to the host. However, in pen-type pointing devices, the cursor position fluctuates between the first and second clicks due to hand tremors or minute device movements. Consequently, the host recognizes the two clicks as separate single-click events occurring at different locations, resulting in a double-click failure. This is a structural problem unique to pen-type devices that does not appear in typical desktop mice that are fixed to a surface. Prior art documents include Patent Document 1 (Registered Patent Publication 10-2685738) and Patent Document 2 (Published Patent Publication 10-2018-0121932). Patent Document 1 discloses a smart pen system for an interactive whiteboard / electronic lectern that includes a camera and code / marker recognition functions, and Patent Document 2 discloses a wireless positioning pen that includes a pressure-sensing tip and a sensor-based configuration. However, these Patent Documents 1 and 2 do not disclose a configuration in which, in response to a single-click input in double-click mode, a controller synthesizes and transmits an HID event sequence corresponding to the double-click, thereby reducing double-click failures caused by cursor displacement.
[0003] The present invention aims to achieve double-click stabilization, inclined surface scrolling, and improved grip and state recognition of a pen-type pointing device based on HID (human interface device) sequential event transmission. The problems to be solved are described below in order.
[0004] First, the failure of a double click in a pen-type device must be compensated for by control logic. Since the body of a pen-type pointing device is prone to slight shaking at the moment of clicking, it is difficult for the user to accurately reproduce a double click at short intervals. The present invention allows a double click mode to be selected in advance using a second button, and when a single click of the tip is detected in that state, the controller synthesizes an HID event sequence corresponding to two click events (e.g., 'Click Down', 'Click Up', 'Click Down', 'Click Up') at a predetermined time interval (e.g., 5ms to 20ms) and transmits it to the host. In this way, by generating and transmitting an event sequence corresponding to a double click without additional physical click input in response to a single click detection, the user can obtain a stable double click result at a 10ms interval (in the embodiment) without physically pressing twice accurately.
[0005] Second, natural scrolling operation must be possible even on various shapes, such as curved or inclined surfaces. The present invention designs the fifth region as an inclined surface and arranges a plurality of touch sensors. When a user swipes their finger up and down along the inclined surface, the sensors respond sequentially, and the controller converts this into HID events corresponding to the scroll direction and scroll amount, sending them to the host. This allows for a consistent scrolling experience even with constraints related to the form factor.
[0006] Third, the degradation of operability and reproducibility caused by the absence of a grip reference point must be improved. If the grip position changes with each repetition, click sensitivity and gesture length fluctuate, leading to increased misoperation and fatigue. Furthermore, depending on the grip method, directional distortion occurring in the X-axis (horizontal) and Y-axis (vertical) movements of the mouse can be amplified. The present invention minimizes such directional distortion by forming an index finger grip portion in the fourth region to guide the finger to rest stably in the same position repeatedly. Additionally, the reproducibility of double-click conversion and scroll input is improved, and fatigue is reduced during prolonged use.
[0007] Fourth, the perceptibility of click mode and operation mode must be enhanced to reduce erroneous operation. The present invention provides a selection configuration in which the first LED indicates the click mode (one / double) and the second LED indicates the operation mode (mouse / remote control), allowing the user to immediately check the status within their field of vision and prevent mode errors. Fifth, implementation must be simplified and host interoperability efficiency improved through HID-based sequential event transmission. The present invention does not specify internal signal processing parameters or filter details in the specification, but generates and transmits HID events corresponding to a one-click or double-click based on the mode state of the second button and the click detection of the tip. Scrolling also converts sequential inputs generated from multiple touch sensors into scroll events and transmits them. In the remote control mode provided as an optional embodiment, data corresponding to the host's speaker volume control can be transmitted through the same HID path.
[0008] The housing (100) may include a body (110) and a head (120). The tip (200) is inserted into the first hole of the head (120) and protrudes outward, and can provide a click input corresponding to the mouse left button function. The second button (320) is placed in the second area (112) and can switch the operation mode of the tip (200) to one-click / double-click. Depending on the state of the second button (320), if the double-click mode is set, the controller (700) can synthesize the single-click input of the tip (200) into an HID event sequence corresponding to a double-click (e.g., 'Click Down', 'Click Up', 'Click Down', 'Click Up') and transmit it to the host via the transceiver (600), and in the one-click mode, transmit a single-click event. Optionally, the first LED (410) of the third area (113) may indicate the active / inactive state of the second button (320), and the detection grip portion (130) of the fourth area (114) may provide a finger seating reference point. A plurality of touch sensors (500) of the fifth area (115) may collect finger swipes on an inclined surface as scroll inputs, and the controller (700) may transmit this as a scroll HID event. Additionally, mouse / remote control mode switching and status display are possible through the third button (330) of the sixth area (116) and the second LED (420) of the seventh area (117) (optional embodiment), and in remote control mode, inputs from a plurality of touch sensors (500) may be transmitted as HID data corresponding to the host's speaker volume control.
[0009] According to the present invention, the user no longer needs to repeatedly perform precise double-click timing. After setting the double-click mode with the second button (320) and clicking the tip (200) once, the controller (700) synthesizes an HID event sequence corresponding to the double-click at a predetermined time interval (e.g., 10ms) and transmits it to the host, so that the double-click result can be reliably reproduced. This has the effect of simultaneously compensating for failures caused by hand tremors and / or fine movements characteristic of pen-type devices in structural and logical aspects. In addition, by placing a plurality of touch sensors (500) on the inclined surface of the fifth area (115), natural and consistent scrolling operation can be achieved even on curved and slim surfaces. The index finger gripping portion (130) of the fourth region (114) provides a reference point for finger seating to ensure consistency in click sensitivity and gesture length during gripping, and in particular, by minimizing directional distortion occurring in the X-axis (horizontal) and Y-axis (vertical) movements of the mouse, it can increase the reproducibility and accuracy of click / scroll operations and reduce fatigue during long-term use. Status display through the first LED (410) and the second LED (420) (select) allows for immediate recognition of the current click mode and operation mode, thereby reducing misoperation caused by mode confusion. Furthermore, the present invention simplifies implementation and improves the efficiency of interoperability with the host by adhering to the principle of HID-based sequential event transmission. In remote control mode, inputs from multiple touch sensors (500) can be transmitted as HID data corresponding to the host's speaker volume control, thereby increasing the range of usage scenarios.
[0010] Furthermore, the present invention implements an original technical concept that intentionally deviates from the principle of one-to-one correspondence between physical input and logical events, which has long been maintained in the field of input device technology, by adopting a configuration that synthesizes and transmits an HID event sequence corresponding to a double click for a single click input. As a result, there are significant effects that are difficult to predict, such as a dramatic improvement in the double click success rate, a significant reduction in hand and / or finger fatigue, and a cost-effective solution that overcomes the structural limitations of pen-type devices using only software without hardware changes.
