Abstract
Description
Decrosslinked polyolefin resin with excellent weather resistance, a composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same
[0001] The present invention relates to a decrosslinked polyolefin resin with excellent weather resistance, a resin composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to a decrosslinked polyolefin resin obtained by recycling a crosslinked polyolefin resin, which has excellent weather resistance, mechanical properties, and processability, a decrosslinked polyolefin resin, a composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same.
[0002] Cross-linked polyolefin resins are used in applications such as power cables due to their excellent insulation properties and thermal and chemical resistance. Although various plastic recycling methods are currently being researched for resource conservation, most cross-linked polyolefin resins are not currently being effectively recycled. To address this, a method is required to de-crosslink the polyolefin by removing its cross-linking structure.
[0003] Conventional decrosslinked polyolefin resins undergo decrosslinking by high-temperature extrusion to achieve a low gel fraction and processability. In this case, excessive decrosslinking reaction leads to a significant decrease in molecular weight and a significant deterioration in mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation. Additionally, when decrosslinking is performed to maintain mechanical properties, the gel fraction is high and the melt index is low, resulting in reduced processability.
[0004] Meanwhile, to use decrosslinked polyolefin resins for applications such as wire sheaths, black color and weather resistance are required. When a large amount of carbon black is applied as an additive to achieve a black color, mechanical strength and processability tend to decrease.
[0005] Accordingly, there is a need to develop a cross-linked polyolefin recycled resin that has a low gel fraction, excellent weather resistance and processability, and simultaneously satisfies mechanical strength, a resin composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same.
[0006] Related prior art is Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2290806.

[0008] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a decrosslinked polyolefin resin with high elongation and excellent weather resistance, a composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same.
[0009] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a decrosslinked polyolefin resin with excellent weather resistance that exhibits black color while having excellent weather resistance and can be used for applications such as wire sheaths, a composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same.
[0010] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a decrosslinked polyolefin resin with excellent weather resistance that can reduce production costs by using waste wires as a raw material and eliminating the need for a carbon black separation process.

[0037] The present invention will be described in more detail below. Where terms such as 'comprising,' 'having,' and 'consisting of' are used in this specification, other parts may be added unless 'only' is used. Where a component is expressed in the singular, it includes cases where it includes the plural unless specifically stated otherwise.
[0038] In interpreting the components, they are interpreted to include a margin of error even in the absence of a separate explicit statement.
[0039] In this specification, the carbon black content is a value measured using TGA (TA Instruments). The TGA measurement conditions were measured up to approximately 900°C under an air atmosphere, and the carbon black wt% was measured based on the content that decomposes at approximately 550°C - 800°C.
[0040] In this specification, the gel fraction is a value measured using Xylene according to ASTM D2765.
[0041] In this specification, the melt index is a value measured at 190°C with a load of 2.16 kg in accordance with ASTM D 1238.
[0042] Hereinafter, a decrosslinked polyolefin resin and a method for manufacturing the same according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail.
[0043]
[0044] The decrosslinked polyolefin resin of the present invention comprises about 1 to 15 weight percent of carbon black. If the carbon black content is less than about 1 weight percent, weather resistance is reduced, and it is difficult to achieve the desired black color, making it unsuitable for applications such as sheaths. Additionally, if the carbon black content exceeds about 15 weight percent, mechanical strength and processability may be reduced. In a specific example, the decrosslinked polyolefin resin may comprise about 1.5 to 12 weight percent, for example, about 2 to 6 weight percent, of carbon black.
[0045] The above carbon black may be acetylene black, thermal black, furnace black, channel black, or a combination thereof.
[0046] In a specific example, the carbon black may have an average particle diameter of about 10 to 50 nm, for example, about 20 to 40 nm, and a Specific Total Surface Area (STSA) of about 20 to 400 cm 2 / g, for example, about 50 to 200 cm 2 It can be / g. Within the above range, it has good weather resistance and can exhibit a uniform black color.
[0047] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a melt index of about 0.02 to 10 g / 10 min measured at 190°C and a 2.16 kg load in accordance with ASTM D1238. If the melt index is less than about 0.02 g / 10 min, processability is reduced, and if it exceeds about 10 g / 10 min, mechanical properties may be reduced. In a specific example, the melt index (190°C, 2.16 kg) of the above decrosslinked polyolefin resin is about 0.03 to 5 g / 10 min, and for example, may be about 0.05 to 3 g / 10 min.
[0048] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a decrosslinking index (DI) defined by Formula 1 below of about 10 or more:
[0049] [Equation 1]
[0050] DI = (100 * E * MI) / C
[0051] (In Equation 1, E is the elongation (%), MI is the melt index (g / 10min) measured at 190°C and a 2.16 kg load according to ASTM D1238, and C is the gel fraction (wt%))
[0052] The above decrosslinking index (DI) is a value calculated through a relationship between the elongation rate, melt index, and gel fraction of the decrosslinked polyolefin resin, and if it has a value of about 10 or more, it has a balance of mechanical properties, processability, and weather resistance. In a specific example, the above decrosslinking index (DI) may be about 100 to 300,000, for example, about 150 to 30,000, and in a specific example, about 155 to 10,000. If the melt index cannot be measured in Equation 1 above, it is calculated by applying 0.01 g / 10 min.
[0053] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a gel fraction of about 20 wt% or less. Within this range, excellent recyclability and processability can be achieved, and stable physical properties can be secured. Preferably, the gel fraction may be about 18 wt% or less, more preferably about 15 wt% or less, and in specific examples, it may be about 0.1 to 18 wt%, for example, about 0.5 to 18 wt%.
[0054] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have an elongation of about 200% or more, for example, about 250% or more, and in specific examples, about 300 to 600%. It has excellent mechanical strength within the above range.
[0055] In a specific example, the decrosslinked polyolefin resin can maintain at least about 75% of its elongation properties before UV exposure even after being exposed for 500 hours in a UV exposure test. For example, it can be at least about 80%, and at least about 82%.
[0056] In addition, the above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a tensile strength of about 95 kgf / ㎠ to 170 kgf / ㎠ measured at a speed of 50 mm / min according to ASTM D638 standards. For example, it may be about 100 kgf / ㎠ to 165 kgf / ㎠.
[0057] In a specific example, the decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a complex viscosity of about 2,500 to 90,000 Pa.s measured at 0.1 rad / s and 190 °C. For example, it may be 5,000 to 85,000 Pa.s. Good processability and mechanical properties can be secured within the above range.
[0058] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin may have a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of about 50,000 or more, preferably about 80,000 to 300,000. In this range, mechanical properties are excellent.
[0059] The above decrosslinked polyolefin resin has an excellent balance of weather resistance, processability, and mechanical properties.
[0060] Another aspect of the present invention is a composition comprising the above-mentioned decrosslinked polyolefin resin.
[0061] In one embodiment, the composition may include a decrosslinked polyolefin resin and a polyolefin resin. The polyolefin resin is a general-purpose polyolefin resin rather than a recycled polyolefin resin. In one embodiment, the weight ratio of the decrosslinked polyolefin resin (DO) to the new polyolefin resin in the composition may be about 20 to 80: 20 to 80.
[0062] In another embodiment, the composition may include a decrosslinked polyolefin resin and a crosslinked polyolefin resin. When the decrosslinked polyolefin and the crosslinked polyolefin are mixed and applied in this manner, mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation) can be reinforced, and additionally, resin color and odor can be diluted. In an embodiment, the weight ratio of the decrosslinked polyolefin resin (DO) and the crosslinked polyolefin resin (CO) in the composition may be approximately DO : CO = 20~50 : 50~80. Within this range, excellent mechanical properties and processability can be secured.
[0063] The above-mentioned cross-linked polyolefin resin may include, but is not limited to, a polyolefin resin cross-linked by peroxide, a polyolefin resin cross-linked by electron beam, or a silane-cross-linked polyolefin resin. The above-mentioned polyolefin resin may include olefin-based homopolymers such as polyethylene and polypropylene, or olefin-based random or block copolymers formed by polymers of two or more olefin monomers. The above-mentioned polyethylene may be ultra-low density polyethylene (ULDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), or a combination thereof. However, it is not limited to the types of polyethylene described above.
[0064] Another aspect of the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a decrosslinked polyolefin resin. The decrosslinked polyolefin resin can be manufactured by decrosslinking a raw material containing carbon black. In this way, when decrosslinking a raw material containing carbon black is to be performed, a twin-screw extruder is used to combine screw elements, and the desired physical properties can be controlled through setting the rpm, feed speed, processing temperature range, residence time in the extruder, and screw design modification.
[0065] In one embodiment, the product can be manufactured by including the step of biscuit extruding a cross-linked polyolefin containing carbon black and then adjusting the carbon black content to about 1 to 15 weight%. If the carbon black content is less than about 1 weight%, weather resistance is reduced and it is difficult to achieve the desired black color, making it unsuitable for applications such as wire sheaths. Furthermore, if the carbon black content exceeds about 15 weight%, mechanical strength and processability may be reduced, and surface properties may deteriorate when applied to wires. If the carbon black content of the raw cross-linked polyolefin is less than about 1 weight%, additional carbon black can be added after biscuit extrusion to adjust the carbon black content to about 1 to 15 weight%. Additionally, if the carbon black content of the raw cross-linked polyolefin exceeds about 15 weight%, additional polyolefin can be added to adjust the carbon black content to about 1 to 15 weight%. In a specific example, the cross-linked polyolefin resin may contain about 1.5 to 12 weight% of carbon black, for example, about 2 to 6 weight%.
[0066] The above-mentioned biscuit extrusion can be performed at a temperature of approximately 250 ℃ to 380 ℃, preferably approximately 260 ℃ to 330 ℃. Within this temperature range, molecular weight reduction can be minimized, excellent mechanical properties can be secured, and a low gel fraction can be achieved.
[0067] The above-mentioned cross-linked polyolefin resin may include polyolefin resins cross-linked by peroxide, polyolefin resins cross-linked by electron beam, silane cross-linked polyolefin resins, etc., but is not necessarily limited thereto.
[0068] In another embodiment, the decrosslinked polyolefin resin may be manufactured by including the step of decrosslinking waste wires by biscuit extrusion. The waste wires may comprise a crosslinked polyolefin containing carbon black. In one embodiment, the crosslinked polyolefin may have a carbon black content of about 1 to 15 weight percent. In another embodiment, the carbon black content of the final product after the decrosslinking reaction may be adjusted to about 1 to 15 weight percent. When waste wires are used as raw materials in this manner, a separate carbon black separation process is not required because they contain carbon black. Therefore, it is economical as it not only reduces production costs but also simplifies the process. In an embodiment, the waste wires may contain about 15 weight percent or less of ethylene butyl acrylate and about 10 weight percent or less of polyester. Processability is easy within this range.

[0137] As shown in Table 1 above, it can be seen that Examples 1-4 according to the present invention exhibit a balance of physical properties in terms of gel fraction, processability, mechanical strength, and weather resistance. On the other hand, Comparative Example 1-2, which was not decrosslinked extruded, exhibits a high gel fraction and low elongation, and shows poor processability to the extent that the melt index cannot be measured. Comparative Example 3 shows significantly reduced processability because decrosslinking extrusion was performed at a low temperature. Comparative Example 4 shows that decrosslinking extrusion was performed at an excessively high temperature, resulting in reduced elongation and thus failing to secure the desired mechanical properties. Comparative Example 5 shows reduced weather resistance because the carbon black content is below the range of the present invention. Comparative Example 6 shows reduced elongation because the melt index exceeds the range of the present invention. Additionally, Comparative Example 7 shows reduced processability because the carbon black content exceeds the range of the present invention. Comparative Example 8 was decrosslinked extrusion using a uniaxial extruder, and it can be seen that the elongation rate was reduced.
