Description

SWIM GOGGLES WITH EAR PROTECTORSCROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This PCT Patent Application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No.63 / 790,562 filed on April 17, 2025, titled “SWIM GOGGLES WITH EAR PROTECTORS”, by inventor Lucas Vail Marten, the contents of which are expressly incorporated herein by this reference as though set forth in their entirety.FIELD OF DISCLOSURE

[0002] The present disclosure relates to swim goggles for exercise that include a headband that prevents water from getting into the ears without the need for multiple accessories.BACKGROUND

[0003] Swim goggles are widely used by swimmers to protect their eyes from water, chlorine, and other irritants commonly found in swimming pools and natural water bodies. However, a significant limitation of conventional swim goggles is their inability to provide protection for the user's ears. As a result, swimmers often experience discomfort, infections, and other ear-related issues due to water entering the ear canal. This issue is particularly problematic for individuals who swim frequently or for extended periods, as prolonged exposure to water in the ears can lead to conditions such as swimmer's ear (otitis externa) and other infections.

[0004] In addition to health concerns, the lack of ear-protection in traditional swim goggles can also affect a swimmer's performance and overall swimming experience. Water entering the ears can cause distractions, discomfort, and a loss of balance, which arc detrimental to both competitive and recreational swimmers. Moreover, existing solutions such as earplugs often fail to provide a satisfactory fit, can be uncomfortable, and may fall out during vigorous swimming activities. Consequently, there is a need for an improved design of swim goggles that addresses these issues by providing effective ear protection without compromising comfort or performance.

[0005] Currently, there are swim caps that are configured to cover a user’s ears and swim headbands that cover the ears by strapping around the forehead, but these fail to provide protection for a user’s eyes. Furthermore, there are goggles that cover the eyes, but provide no ear protection. Thus, what is needed is a pair of swim goggles with integrated ear protection.SUMMARY

[0006] The following presents a simplified overview of the example embodiments in order to provide a basic understanding of some embodiments of the example embodiments. This overviewis not an extensive overview of the example embodiments. [0018] Before the present methods and systems are disclosed and described, it is to be understood that the methods and systems are not limited to specific methods, specific components, or to particular implementations. It is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting.

[0019] As used in the specification and the appended claims, the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the” include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Ranges may be expressed herein as from “about” one particular value, and / or to “about” another particular value. When such a range is expressed, another embodiment includes from the one particular value and / or to the other particular value. Similarly, when values are expressed as approximations, by use of the antecedent “about,” it will be understood that the particular value forms another embodiment. It will be further understood that the endpoints of each of the ranges are significant both in relation to the other endpoint, and independently of the other endpoint.

[0020] “Optional” or “optionally” means that the subsequently described event or circumstance may or may not occur, and that the description includes instances where said event or circumstance occurs and instances where it does not.

[0021] Throughout the description and claims of this specification, the word “comprise” and variations of the word, such as “comprising” and “comprises,” means “including but not limited to,” and is not intended to exclude, for example, other components, integers, or steps. “Exemplary” means “an example of’ and is not intended to convey an indication of a preferred or ideal embodiment. “Such as” is not used in a restrictive sense, but for explanatory purposes.

[0022] Disclosed are components that may be used to perform the disclosed methods and systems. These and other components are disclosed herein, and it is understood that when combinations, subsets, interactions, groups, etc. of these components are disclosed that while specific reference of each various individual and collective combinations and permutation of these may not be explicitly disclosed, each is specifically contemplated and described herein, for all methods and systems. [0024] In the following description, certain terminology is used to describe certain features of one or more embodiments. For purposes of the specification, unless otherwise specified, the term “substantially” refers to the complete or nearly complete extent or degree of an action, characteristic, property, state, structure, item, or result. For example, in one embodiment, an object that is “substantially” located within a housing would mean that the object is either completely within a housing or nearly completely within a housing. The exact allowable degree of deviation from absolute completeness may in some cases depend on the specific context. However, generally speaking, the nearness of completion will be so as to have the same overall result as if absolute and total completion were obtained. The use of “substantially” is also equally applicable when used in a negative connotation to refer to the complete or near complete lack of an action, characteristic, property, state, structure, item, or result.

[0025] As used herein, the terms “approximately” and “about” generally refer to a deviance of within 5% of the indicated number or range of numbers. In one embodiment, the term “approximately” and “about”, may refer to a deviance of between 0.001-10% from the indicated number or range of numbers.

[0026] Various embodiments are now described with reference to the drawings. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of one or more embodiments. It may be evident, however, that the various embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form to facilitate describing these embodiments.

[0027] The swim goggles of the present disclosure may be allergen-free and lightweight, which makes them accessible to a wide audience of both competitive and non-competitive swimmers. By covering the ears, the swim goggles allow users to avoid “swimmer’s ear”, which is water trapped in the ear. The swim goggles of the present disclosure may be the right size and shape to avoid harmful intraocular pressure and “raccoon eyes.” The back connection (strap) portion may be hookand loop (Velcro®) on the back and may be larger than the average headband. This allows for a more adjustable fit, which is also superior to the average goggle strap. The swim goggles of the present disclosure may have measurements that are based on mathematical averages of leading goggle products.

[0028] The swim goggles of the present disclosure combines lightweight, athletic-capable swim goggles with headbands designed to keep water out of the ears while swimming.

[0029] Preferred materials:• Straps: Latex-free neoprene, large hook and loop patch on back interior for adjustability (preferably black)• Strap / Goggle Connector: Silicone (preferably black)• Curved Lens: Polyamine66; Outer UV protection layer, waterproof lenses between, antifog layer interior (clear / white)• Eye Socket Gasket: Soft flexible silicone (preferably white)• Nose Bridge: Flexible silicone (preferably white)

[0030] Preferred Measurements:• Straps: 3.5 mm thick x 9 cm wide (4-5 cm thinner at goggle connection) x 26 cm long.o Velcro patch: 3 cm wide x 8 cm long.o Reuleaux triangle opening at both ends to hook onto connector with goggles. • Strap / Goggle Connector: 40 mm wide (10 mm wider towards ear) x 20 mm long, with anchor bulge (Reuleaux triangle shape) facing outward for neoprene strap to securely hook around.• Curved Lens: 31.6 mm wide x 50.3 mm long.• Frame: 143.2 mm wide x 40.1 mm long.• Eye Socket Gasket: 10.0 mm.• Nose Bridge: 26.5 mm wide x 7.9 mm long.

[0031] Additional embodiments may feature different colors, mirrored lenses, replaceable / adjustable nose bridge, larger lenses, different strap shapes, etc.

[0032] The swim goggles of the present disclosure are the first swim goggles to combine forefront goggle technology with straps that cover the cars, preventing discomfort and health complications from water in the ears. Over-ear neoprene headbands exist separately from goggles, as an additional accessory, but the goggles of the present disclosure is the first product that combinesboth as opposed to using combinations of the separate products. The strap material allows for complete adjustability with the large hook and loop patch at the back of the head that is easier to take on and off than the average silicone strap or comparable headbands. The lenses may also feature premiere shapes and materials that promote maximum visibility and eye protection while keeping out water with soft, flexible silicone.

[0033] Regarding alternative embodiments, the lens may have different shapes or materials. Polyamine 66 is preferred because it is both lighter and cheaper than next leading material and curved shape is best for athletic capability. A smaller eye shape might raise intraocular pressure. Straps could be formed out of softer material, but latex-free neoprene creates a waterproof seal and is hypoallergenic. The nose bridge could be a harder silicone that is replaceable for better nose fit, but flexible silicone should address comfort for different noses. The connector could be made of a softer material for better face comfort but must be solid enough that straps stay connected to goggles even when stretched to size of the face.

[0034] FIG.1 is an illustration of a front perspective view of one embodiment of the swim goggles of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 1, swim goggles 100 may comprise goggles portion 102 and strap portion 104. Goggles portion 102 may comprise two lenses 110, 111, nose bridge 120, and eye socket gaskets 130, 131.
