[0038] DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0039]
[0037] Generally speaking, pursuant to these various approaches, a storage device is provided with both a sealable chamber for wet products that opens via rotation of ahinged lid and compartments for dry products within an attachment integrally formed with or connected to the sealable chamber. In this way, the storage device is able to store multiple different products that are commonly used together in a single device, thereby making storage, transport, and use of the different products easier. Further, a mirror is typically not included in a hinged lid of a sealable chamber because the mirror is prone to cracking when the pressure necessary to seal the sealable chamber is applied, and the hinged lid has limited space for a mirror such that placement of the mirror may not be ideal for use during product application. The attachment provides space for a mirror that will not be subject to the forces involved in sealing the sealable chamber. The attachment can be configured such that the mirror is optimally positioned for use in applying a product after the hinged lid is rotated open.
[0040]
[0038] As shown in FIG. 1, a storage device 102 includes a sealable chamber 104, a base 106, and a cover 108. The sealable chamber 104 includes a cavity 110 defined by a cavity wall 112. The cavity wall 112 has a product surface wall 114 and an edge wall 116. The product surface wall 114 forms a bottom of the cavity 110 upon which a sealed product 118 (shown in FIG. 5) may sit and the edge wall 116 extends upward from the product surface wall 114 in an annular configuration to form a side of the cavity 110. The sealed product 118 may be a “wet” product that contains one or more ingredient that may evaporate or interact with environmental conditions (e.g., oxygen or UV light) and therefore must be stored in a sealed environment. The sealed product 118 may be a personal care product, such as a cosmetic. For example, the sealed product 118 may be a liquid or cream foundation, a liquid or cream concealer, a liquid or gel primer, a liquid or cream blush, a liquid or cream highlighter, a BB cream or a CC cream, a lip gloss, a lip balm, an eyebrow gel, a liquid or gel eyeliner, a moisturizing cream or lotion, a serum, a hydrating face mask, a face oil, a body shimmer or body oil, sunblock or sunscreen, or acne treatment.
[0041]
[0039] To seal the cavity 110, the sealable chamber 104 includes a hinged lid 120 having a top 122 connected by a hinge 124 to a bottom 126. The bottom 126 is positioned around the cavity wall 112, specifically around the edge wall 116, and is loose enough to rotate. The top 122 is configured to move via rotation between a locked position covering the cavity 110 (as shown in FIG. 3) to an unlocked position not covering the cavity 110 (as shown in FIG. 1). The edge wall 116 of the cavity 110 includes a first locking mechanism 128 (such as internal or external threads or a snap-lockfeature including protrusions, hooks, notches, or grooves) and the top 122 includes a second rotating locking mechanism 130 (such internal or external threads or a snap-lock feature including protrusions, hooks, notches, or grooves). The first locking mechanism 128 and the second locking mechanism are configured to engage one another via rotation to secure the hinged lid 120 to the cavity 110 such that the cavity 110 is sealed shut by the hinged lid 120.
[0042]
[0040] As shown in FIG. 1, the base 106 is connected to the cavity wall 112 adjacent to the bottom 126 of the lid 120. The base 106 may be formed integrally with the cavity 110 (e.g., may be molded from the same polymer material by the same mold cavity).
[0043] Alternately, the base 106 may be separate from and connected to the cavity 110, as discussed in greater detail below with respect to FIG. 5. The base 106 may include one or more compartments 132. In the arrangement shown in FIG. 1, the base 106 includes four compartments 132a, 132b, 132c, 132d.
[0044]
[0041] In the arrangement shown in FIG. 1, each of the four compartments 132 is configured to store a dry product 134 (dry products 134a and 134b shown in FIG. 5). The dry product 134 may be a personal care product, such as a cosmetic. For example, the dry product 134 may be a powder foundation, powder blush or bronzer, powder eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, face highlighter, setting powder, face or body glitter, or mineral makeup. In some implementations having a plurality of dry products 134, each dry product 134 may be the same product in a different color to enable blending and color selection. In other implementations having a plurality of dry products 134, some or all of the dry products 134 may be different from one another to provide a storage device 102 comprising most or all of the products needed for a particular makeup look, for example. In some implementations of the storage device 102, the sealed product 118 in the sealable chamber 104 and the dry product 134 in the base 106 may be intended for use together. For example, the sealed product 118 may be a gel acne treatment and the dry product 134 may be a concealer for blemishes, thereby enabling a single storage device 102 to contain all of the products that a user needs for a particular purpose (e.g., treating and concealing acne). As another example, the sealed product 118 and one or more dry products 134 may be a full set of different makeup products in complementary colors needed for a particular makeup look, thereby providing all that a user needs for that makeup look in a single storage device 102 that might be carried in a purse for touch-ups. As shown in FIG. 5, one of the compartments 132 of the base 106 may secure an applicator 136 (suchas a sponge or brush) necessary for application of a sealed product 118 or a dry product 134. In such an arrangement, a single storage device 102 provides not only the necessary products for a particular purpose or look but also a means to apply them.
[0045]
[0042] As shown in FIG. 1, the cover 108 is connected to the top 122 of the lid 120. The cover 108 may be formed integrally with the top 122 of the lid 120 (e.g., may be molded from the same polymer material by the same mold cavity). Alternately, as discussed further with respect to FIG. 5 below, the cover 108 may be separate from and connected to the top 122 of the lid 120. The cover 108 is configured to move via rotation between a closed position that covers the one or more compartments 132 when the top 122 is in the locked position (as shown in FIG. 3) and an open position not covering the one or more compartments 132 when the top is in the unlocked position (as shown in FIG.
[0046] 1).
[0047]
[0043] As shown in FIG. 1, the cover 108 includes an upper wall 138 having an interior surface 140. A mirror 142 is secured to the interior surface 140 and is visible when the cover 108 is in an open position. In particular, in FIG. 1, the mirror 142 is offset from the lid 120 along a horizontal axis H when the cover 108 is in the open position.
[0048] Beneficially, the mirror 142 is then positioned such that a user can use the mirror 142 while accessing the cavity 110 and compartments 132. Specifically, when the cover 108 is in the open position, the mirror 142 is positioned substantially orthogonal to the product surface wall 114 of the cavity 110. For example, the mirror 142 may be arranged vertically while the product surface wall 114 is arranged horizontally. In the arrangement shown in FIG. 1, the cover 108 includes a cover perimeter wall 144 defining an outer perimeter CP of the cover 108. The upper wall 138 is connected to the cover perimeter wall 144 and extends to the outer perimeter CP of the cover 108. The interior surface 140 of the upper wall 138 is divided by a partition 146, and the mirror 142 is positioned across the partition 146 from the top 122 of the lid 120.
[0049]
[0044] FIG. 2 illustrates the storage device 102 during the process of opening or closing the storage device 102. In FIG. 2 compared to FIG. 1, the top 122 of the hinged lid 120 has been closed over the cavity 110 (with the top 122, lid 120, and cavity 110 shown in FIG. 1 but not visible in FIG. 2) but has not yet been rotated to a locked position (i.e., the position in which the cavity 110 is sealed). Because rotation has yet to occur, the cover 108 does not yet cover the compartments 132 and is therefore not yet in a closed position.24.65
[0050] Specifically, the base 106 includes a base perimeter wall 148 defining an outer perimeter BP. In FIG. 2, the base perimeter wall 148 does not engage and is not aligned with the cover perimeter wall 144. The storage device 102 depicted in FIGS. 1-3 must rotate approximately 90 degrees to transition between the locked and unlocked positions of the top 122 of the hinged lid 120 and the open and closed positions of the cover 108. In other arrangements, the amount of rotation necessary for this transition may be greater or smaller.
[0051]
[0045] In FIG. 3, the top 122 of the lid 120 (shown in FIG. 1) is in a locked position and the cover 108 is in the closed position. The cover perimeter wall 144 engages the base perimeter wall 148. Specifically, the cover 108 is stacked on the base 106 with the cover perimeter wall 144 resting on top of the base perimeter wall 148. In some arrangements, a connection device 149, such as a clasp, may secure the cover 108 to the base 106. The connection device 149 may include a first element 151a connected to or integral with the cover and a second element 151b connected to or integral with the base, and the first element 151a and the second element 151b may engage each other when the cover is in the closed position. For example, the first element 151a may be a protrusion resembling a rice grain and the second element 151b may be a notch into which the first element 151a can snap fit to secure the cover 108 and the base 106 to one another. In the arrangement shown in FIG. 3, the cover perimeter wall 144 aligns with the base perimeter wall 148 along all of the outer perimeter BP of the base 106 and the outer perimeter CP of the cover 108. FIG. 3 illustrates the lid 120 covered by the cover 108 such that the top 122 of the lid 120 is not visible. In some implementations, the top 122 of the lid 120 may extend through the cover 108 such that the top 122 of the lid 120 is visible through the cover 108.
[0052]
[0046] The storage device 102 of FIG. 4 is substantially similar to the storage device 102 of FIGS. 1-3 except that the cover 108 is configured differently such that the mirror 142 is positioned above the top 122 of the lid 120 along a vertical axis V when the cover 108 is in the open position. Put another way, in both the arrangement of FIGS. 1-3 and the arrangement of FIG. 4, the base perimeter wall 148 and the cover perimeter wall 144 are rectangular. The base perimeter wall 148 has short edges 150a and 150b and long edges 152a and 152b. The cover perimeter wall 144 has short edges 154a and 154b and long edges 156a and 156b. In the arrangement of FIGS. 1-3, as shown in FIG. 1, the long edge 156a of the cover 108 is positioned along the short edge 150a of the base 106 when24.65
[0053] the cover 108 is in the open position. In the arrangement of FIG. 4, the short edge 154a of the cover 108 is positioned along the long edge 152a of the base 106 when the cover is in the open position.
[0054]
[0047] As discussed above, the base 106 and cover 108 may be separate from and connectable to the sealable chamber 104. When they are separate, the base 106 and cover 108 may be sold together as an attachment 158 for a sealable chamber 104 as shown in FIG. 5. When configured as an attachment 158, the base 106 includes a base aperture 160 sized to surround and be secured to the sealable chamber 104. Likewise, the cover 108 includes a cover aperture 162 (illustrated in FIG. 1) sized to surround and be secured to the lid 120. The base aperture 160 and the cover aperture 162 may be dimensioned to enable a tight press fit with the sealable chamber 104 and lid 120, remaining secured in place via friction without the need for any further connection mechanism, as shown in the arrangement illustrated in FIG. 5. Alternately or in addition, the base aperture 160 and the cover aperture 162 may be secured to the sealable chamber 104 and lid 120 with an adhesive or with respective connection mechanisms, which may include ridges, notches, or grooves to facilitate a snap fit. When the cover 108 is in the closed position, the base 106 and the cover 108 are stacked with a single axis A running through a center 164 of the base aperture 160 and a center 166 of the cover aperture 162. Once attached to the sealable chamber 104, the cover 108 is configured to rotate with the top 122 of the lid 120 around the single axis A to the open position. In the open position, the mirror 142 (shown in FIGS. 1-4) is either to be positioned above the top of the lid 120 along a vertical axis V (as shown in FIG. 4) or offset from the lid along a horizontal axis (as shown in FIG. 1). To ensure that the base 106 and cover 108 are properly oriented when secured to the sealable chamber 104 and the lid 120 to enable proper positioning of the mirror 142 in the open position, the base 106 and the cover 108 may each include an orientation indicator 168 to ensure proper orientation relative to the lid 120 when the lid 120 is in a locked position. Each orientation indicator 168 may be at least one of a ridge, opening, or visual mark. For example, each orientation indicator 168 may be a set of arrows indicating the area that should be placed in alignment with the sides of the hinge 124 of the lid 120.
[0055]
[0048] FIGS. 6-8 each illustrate an alternate cover 108 for the attachment of FIG. 5. In these arrangements, the cover 108 does not have a cover aperture 162 that surrounds the lid 120. Instead, each of the covers 108 has a combined orientation and connection feature 170 that is complementary to an orientation and connection feature 172 on the top24.65
[0056] 122 of the hinged lid 120. The interior surface 140 of each cover 108 is positioned upon the top 122 of the lid 120 and secured to the top 122 by the orientation and connection features 170 and 172. The orientation and connection features 170 are configured to connect in limited ways that ensured proper orientation of the cover 108 relative to the top 122.
[0057]
[0049] For example, in FIG. 6, the orientation and connection feature 170 on the cover 108 is a long protruding ridge, and the orientation and connection feature 172 on the top 122 is a recessed groove dimensioned to tightly fit around the long protruding ridge of the cover 108 when inserted therein. In FIG. 7, the orientation and connection feature 170 on the cover 108 is a recess having an asymmetric geometry, and the orientation and connection feature 172 on the top 122 is a protrusion having an asymmetric geometry that is inserted into and engages the recess of the cover 108. In FIG. 8, the orientation and connection feature 170 on the cover 108 is two projections, and the orientation and connection feature 172 on the top 122 is two holes positioned and sized to receive the two projections of the cover 108. Other orientation and connection features 170 and 172 are possible, such as a plurality of snaps or other conventional fasteners in the art arranged in an asymmetric pattern, or conventional connections tools such as hook and loop fasteners or adhesives with guide structures such as ribs indicating proper alignment with the top 122. While the orientation and connection features 170 and 172 are depicted in FIGS. 6-8 on, respectively, the cover 108 and the top 122 of the hinged lid 120, the orientation and connection features 170 and 172 may alternately be part of, respectively, the base 106 and the sealable chamber 104 to form the connection between the base 106 and the sealable chamber 104.
