Abstract
The invention relates to a composite safety net engineered to mitigate the effects of blast-induced concussion waves in underground excavations. The net comprises a quadrilateral mesh body with a reinforced perimeter portion—including inner and outer woven polyester straps—interconnected by a series of stitched, load-distributing elements. These interconnecting elements create a structural grid of quadrilateral apertures and include looped extensions for engaging an internal net portion. This internal net, formed from tensile elements arranged in a customizable quadrilateral pattern, spans the central area enclosed by the perimeter. The design ensures enhanced resistance to the sudden impulse loads generated by nearby controlled explosions, particularly at attachment points, thereby preventing structural failure and preserving the net’s protective function. The composite construction eliminates the need for multiple net layers, offering a cost-effective, high-strength solution for retaining rock debris and safeguarding workers in dynamic and high-risk mining environments.
