Abstract
A friction rock stabilizer is provided which includes an elongate, longitudinally split tube for insertion into a borehole, the tube having a drive end and an opposed anchor end. An expansion member is mounted at the anchor end, with a body portion at least partially received within the tube and aligned collinearly and coaxially therewith. During installation, the stabilizer and expansion member are inserted into the borehole, and upon reaching the borehole terminus, force applied to the drive end drives the expansion member into the anchor end, causing radial expansion thereof. This radial expansion anchors the stabilizer within the borehole, providing improved engagement and installation efficiency.
