Tracking entity movement and interactions within a physical environment

Abstract

A method and system are provided. The method includes receiving sensor data including timestamped entity data packets relating to movement of an entity in an area monitored by a plurality of entity sensors. The method includes using the entity data packets to generate and maintain an entity tracking record which tracks movement of the entity within the area, wherein the entity tracking record includes one or both of a current and predicted next location of the entity within the area. The method includes receiving item sensor information including timestamped entity-item interaction data from an item sensor located within the area. The entity tracking record is updated with the entity-item interaction data when the current location of the entity within the area is within a predetermined range of a location of the item sensor. The method includes providing the entity tracking record for initiating an action within the area based on the entity-item interaction data and the current or expected next location of the entity.
