A turf moving system

Abstract

The invention relates to a turf moving system for lifting and manoeuvring large turf surfaces such as drop-in cricket pitches. The system comprises a modular tray for housing the turf surface; a displaceable platform dimensioned for receiving the tray and being displaceable into and out of a trench between a drop-down position where the platform is seated within a bottom part of the trench, and an elevated position where the platform is arranged substantially level with a surrounding outfield; at least one inflatable pontoon located beneath the platform and being deflatable and inflatable to move the platform up and down in the trench; and a first air pressure system for inflating and deflating the pontoon. The system includes a second air pressure system for weight lifting the tray for manoeuvring the tray between an off-site nursery and the trench.
