Mutual inductive measurements and applications

Abstract

A mutual inductive measurement system for determining the position of a first conductive interfering member, which comprises a transmitting coil, a first receiving coil that forms a mutual inductive coupling with the transmitting coil. The measurement system comprises a transconductance amplifier, a voltage comparator, an integrator which includes at least one capacitor, and a counter that generates a counts signal indicative of the position of the conductive interfering member. Multiple receiving coils may be multiplexed and operated in differential modes. The measurement system is compatible with a variety of inductive sensor styles, and may beneficially be implemented in a positioning device.
