The water filtering and sediment retaining check sluice includes a sluice pier, an upstream gate plate, a drainage gate plate, an opening and closing apparatus, and a sediment filtering and discharging device, where the upstream gate plate and the drainage gate plate are provided with a water inlet and a water outlet each, the sediment filtering and discharging device includes a support arranged on the sluice pier, a rotating shaft rotatably connected to the support, a filtering drum sleeving the rotating shaft, and a sediment collection tank provided under the filtering drum, a blade is arranged in a circumferential direction of the filtering drum, and at least two sediment filtering holes are provided in the blade.
