Content Summation System Using User Signal Analysis
Find Innovative SolutionsGenerate Solutions
Solution Overview
Problem
Users often lack the time to watch entire content, such as movies, and struggle to identify interesting portions, leading to incomplete consumption or reliance on summaries from others.
Innovation Solution
A system that identifies user signals, such as comments and ratings, to determine expressions of interest in content, applies a weight based on user credibility, and generates summary content by extracting segments where interest thresholds are exceeded, providing a condensed version of the content.
Engineering Contradictions & Design Principles
Engineering Contradiction Analysis
1Loss of time
If users watch entire content in full length, then they can experience complete story and all interesting portions, but it consumes excessive time and users cannot complete viewing
Solution Approach 1:
The system extracts and identifies interesting portions of content by analyzing user signals such as comments, ratings, and viewing behaviors. It separates these key segments from the full content to create condensed summaries, allowing users to consume only the most relevant parts without watching the entire content.
Solution Approach 2:
The content is divided into multiple segments based on user interest signals. The system segments the full content into interesting and non-interesting portions, enabling users to selectively view only the segments that contain valuable information or entertainment value.
2Loss of time
If users read reviews or ask others for opinions, then they can get summaries of content, but they lose the authentic viewing experience and cannot identify interesting portions themselves
Solution Approach 1:
The system uses feedback from user signals (comments, ratings, viewing patterns) to automatically identify and highlight interesting portions of content. This feedback mechanism enables users to independently discover valuable segments without relying on external reviews or recommendations.
Solution Approach 2:
The system empowers users to self-identify interesting portions by analyzing their own viewing behaviors and signals. Users can independently determine what content is valuable to them through the system's automated analysis, eliminating the need to rely on others' opinions or reviews.
3Loss of time
If users fast forward through content to find interesting portions, then they can potentially save time, but they cannot identify which portions are actually interesting and may miss key content
Solution Approach 1:
The system performs preliminary analysis of content by processing user signals before users need to view the content. It pre-identifies interesting portions based on accumulated user feedback, so when users want to consume content, the interesting segments are already marked and ready for immediate access.
Solution Approach 2:
The system replaces the manual mechanical process of fast-forwarding and searching through content with an automated digital analysis system. Instead of users manually scanning through content to find interesting portions, the system automatically analyzes user signals and precisely identifies valuable segments using computational methods.

AI summary
As provided herein, a user of a client device is identified as viewing content (e.g., a movie) and generating user signals related to the content (e.g., a social network post about the movie). An expression of interest may be determined from the user signals (e.g., the user may write “this scene is amazing!” within the social network post). Responsive to the expression of interest exceeding an interest threshold, a timestamp is generated for a portion of the content occurring at a time corresponding to the expression of interest. A segment is extracted from the content based upon the timestamp. Summary content, such as a trailer or a summary video for the movie that depicts relatively interesting segments of the movie, is generated to comprise the segment and/or other segments. Users may view the summary content in order to obtain a brief overview of relatively interesting portions of the movie.
