Solution Overview
Problem
The increasing number of user equipments (UEs) in wireless communication systems necessitates improved network energy conservation and reduces the complexity of channel state information (CSI) reporting without mismatches between base stations (BS) and UEs.
Innovation Solution
A method and system for transmitting CSI reports with multiple sub-configurations, including CSI reference signal resource indicators, to enhance network energy efficiency and reduce decoding complexity.
Engineering Contradictions & Design Principles
Engineering Contradiction Analysis
1Adaptability or versatility
If the number of CSI report sub-configurations (L) is increased to support more services and UEs, then the adaptability and coverage of the system is improved, but the decoding complexity at the base station and energy consumption increase
Solution Approach 1:
The CSI report is segmented into multiple sub-reports, each corresponding to a specific CSI report sub-configuration. The base station only needs to decode the subset of N sub-reports that are currently activated, rather than decoding all L possible sub-configurations. This segmentation allows the system to support multiple services and UEs (high adaptability) while reducing the actual decoding complexity at any given time.
Solution Approach 2:
The system dynamically activates only N out of L CSI report sub-configurations based on current network conditions, service requirements, and UE states. This dynamic activation approach allows the system to adapt to varying loads and requirements (improving adaptability) while keeping the instantaneous decoding complexity manageable by processing only the active subset.
2Measurement precision
If more CSI resources are allocated to improve measurement precision, then the channel state information accuracy is improved, but the energy consumption and processing load increase
Solution Approach 1:
Different CSI report sub-configurations are configured with different numbers of CSI resources (K_s varies for each sub-configuration). The system allocates more CSI resources to sub-configurations that require higher measurement precision for specific services or UEs, while using fewer resources for others. This local differentiation of resource allocation improves measurement precision where needed while controlling overall energy consumption.
Solution Approach 2:
The system changes the parameter K_s (number of CSI-RS resources) dynamically across different sub-configurations and activation states. By adjusting this parameter based on service requirements and current network conditions, the system achieves high measurement precision when necessary while reducing energy consumption during normal operation.
3Measurement precision
If the CRI field size is increased to log2(K_s) to accurately indicate CSI-RS resources, then the measurement precision and resource identification accuracy is improved, but the uplink control overhead and processing complexity increase
Solution Approach 1:
The CRI field is processed separately for each of the N activated sub-reports rather than for all L sub-configurations simultaneously. This segmentation reduces the instantaneous processing complexity at the base station while maintaining accurate CSI-RS resource identification through the log2(K_s) field size in each sub-report.

AI summary
This UE may: receive a CSI reporting configuration, the CSI reporting configuration comprising L CSI reporting sub-configurations, each of which comprises a list of CSI-resources, wherein L is an integer that is greater than 1; receive an indication for CSI reporting for N CSI reporting sub-configurations from among the L CSI reporting sub-configurations, wherein N is an integer that is not greater than L and is greater than 1; and transmit a CSI report including CSI sub-reports respectively corresponding to the N CSI reporting sub-configurations. Each of the CSI sub-reports includes a CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) field on the basis of log2(K_s), wherein K_s is the number of CSI-RS resources on the basis of the corresponding CSI reporting sub-configuration
