Solution Overview
Problem
Existing wireless communication systems face challenges in improving spectral efficiency and reducing signaling overhead when activating and deactivating bandwidth parts and other wireless resources.
Innovation Solution
A base station transmits a Medium Access Control (MAC) control element with indications for activating and deactivating bandwidth parts and channel state information report configurations, along with uplink bandwidth part indices and random access procedure information, to reduce BWP switching delay and increase spectrum efficiency.
Engineering Contradictions & Design Principles
Engineering Contradiction Analysis
1Loss of time
If traditional separate signaling methods are used for bandwidth part switching and channel state information activation, then signaling overhead is reduced, but downlink data scheduling delay increases
Solution Approach 1:
The patent combines bandwidth part switching indication and channel state information activation indication into a single MAC control element. This merging of two separate signaling functions into one unified structure reduces the time required for downlink data scheduling while maintaining efficient signaling overhead management.
2Productivity
If bandwidth part switching information is transmitted separately, then device complexity is reduced, but spectrum efficiency decreases
Solution Approach 1:
The base station merges bandwidth part switching information and random access procedure information into a single DCI format. This consolidation improves spectrum efficiency by reducing signaling overhead and enabling faster resource allocation, while the standardized DCI structure keeps processing complexity manageable.
3Loss of information
If multiple separate control elements are used for resource activation, then reliability is improved, but signaling overhead increases
Solution Approach 1:
The patent combines multiple activation functions into a single MAC control element that can simultaneously indicate bandwidth part switching and channel state information activation. This unified approach reduces signaling overhead while maintaining reliability through a standardized, comprehensive control structure that ensures proper resource allocation.

AI summary
A method for a wireless device of a wireless communication system is described herein. In one embodiment the method may include: receiving one or more radio resource configuration (RRC) messages comprising one or more channel state information (CSI) reporting settings, wherein a first CSI reporting setting comprises: a report configuration identifier; a report type indicating a semi-persistent (SP) report type; and a periodicity parameter indicating a reporting periodicity. The method may further include receiving an SP CSI activation/deactivation medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) comprising: a bandwidth part (BWP) indicator indicating a first BWP for which CSI reporting is triggered; and an SP CSI activation/deactivation bit indicating activation of the CSI reporting based on the first CSI reporting setting. Furthermore, the method may include receiving a first downlink control information (DCI) indicating switching to the first BWP as an active BWP; activating the first BWP; and based on the SP CSI activation/deactivation MAC CE indicating activation of the CSI reporting and based on the first BWP being an active BWP, transmitting one or more SP CSI reports based on the first CSI reporting setting. Moreover, corresponding apparatuses, devices and systems are described herein.
