Solution Overview

Problem

There is no obvious implementation method for satisfying the demands of Network Slice Admission Control (NSAC) and Non-Public Network (NPN) functions in the 5G System (5GS).

Innovation Solution

A User Equipment (UE) is designed with a controller and a storage unit that deletes pending Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (NSSAI) for a Stand-alone Non-Public Network (SNPN) when the UE deregisters using explicit signalling or enters a 5GMM-DEREGISTERED state. Additionally, the UE deletes rejected NSSAI for the maximum number of UEs reached associated with a first access type under certain registration failure conditions.

Engineering Contradictions & Design Principles

VSEngineering Contradiction Analysis

1Reliability

If the UE stores pending NSSAI and rejected NSSAI information for network slice admission control, then the network slice management function is improved, but the device complexity and information management overhead increase

Engineering Contradiction:

Core Design Contradiction:
ReliabilityVSDevice complexity

Solution Approach 1:

The UE deletes pending NSSAI and rejected NSSAI information from storage when deregistering from an SNPN or when entering a 5GMM-DEREGISTERED state. This principle applies by discarding stored slice selection information under specific conditions (deregistration events), thereby managing information lifecycle to reduce storage overhead while maintaining necessary slice management capabilities during active registration states

Inventive Principle:
Principle #34Discarding and recovering

Solution Approach 2:

The UE proactively deletes pending and rejected NSSAI information before potential re-registration attempts by monitoring deregistration events. This preliminary action prevents accumulation of outdated slice selection data that would be invalid after deregistration, thereby simplifying subsequent registration procedures without requiring complex information management during the deregistered state

Inventive Principle:
Principle #10Preliminary action

AI summary

Provided are, in the 5GS, a method and a communication mechanism for procedures of initial registration of a UE and a periodic or mobility-based registration for implementing management of information about network slice or non-public network function. Furthermore, provided are a method and a communication mechanism for a deregistration procedure after completion of the registration procedure. Furthermore, provided is a method for managing information about network slice in association with each procedure and state transition. Accordingly, provided is, in the 5GS, a communication mechanism for implementing a function related to management of information about network slice or non-public network function.
