AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Handling and transfer of intraocular and contact lenses during manufacturing can result in damage due to physical contact, especially considering their delicate and sensitive nature.
Method used
A Bernoulli gripper that uses the Bernoulli effect to grip lenses without physical contact by supplying a fluid medium, such as air, through channels to create a pressure force against the lens, and optionally includes mechanical stops and vacuum ports to stabilize and prevent rotation.
Benefits of technology
Enables contact-free handling and positioning of lenses, preventing damage, facilitating precise alignment, and allowing for operations like coating, drying, and handling of electrostatically charged lenses without surface contact.

Abstract
A Bernoulli gripper (200) for ophthalmic lenses includes a gripper body (210) with a first cavity (211) corresponding in shape to an optic zone of an ophthalmic lens (100) and a first channel (212) formed within the gripper body. The first channel penetrates the first cavity at one end and includes a first port in the gripper body at another end of the first channel. The first channel is enabled to supply a fluid medium from the first port to the first cavity at a first velocity such that the ophthalmic lens positioned with the optic zone in proximity to the first cavity is subject to a first pressure force against the first cavity by the Bernoulli effect.
