Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for high-density milkfish larval rearing comprising the steps of cleaning and chlorinating a culture tanks overnight; rinsing culture tanks and installing aeration lines and air stones; stocking a dechlorinated seawater; adding green algae (Nannochloropsis sp.) at a density of 1 X 106 cells / ml; stocking a milkfish larvae at stocking density of 60 to 120 milkfish larvae per liter; feeding the stocked milkfish larvae with rotifer, Artemia, and artificial diet; adding probiotics; partially changing the dechlorinated seawater daily; and employing flow-through system to the culture tanks between 6 PM to 8 AM starting on day 9 up to the harvest period of the milkfish larvae. By increasing larval stocking density, production capacity of the hatchery is increased, and disposal of milkfish eggs is minimized. The disclosed method improves the production cost and returns in milkfish hatchery operations without affecting the fry quality.
