AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

There is a need for a cost-effective solution that uses standard packaging materials to protect glass window samples during shipping while also allowing them to be displayed upright for evaluation, as existing solutions do not provide a suitable backdrop for assessing transmitted and reflected color.

Method used

The use of planar packing pads within the packaging box that can be transformed into a viewing stand and backdrop. These pads are designed to be separated and folded into three-dimensional shapes to hold the glass unit upright and feature a dark and light surface for evaluating color.

Benefits of technology

This solution allows for efficient and cost-effective evaluation of glass window samples by providing a protective and displayable packaging system that can be included with every sample order, ensuring that the samples can be viewed in the optimal position for color assessment.

Abstract

A combination packaging and display arrangement (10) for an article (12), such as a multi-pane insulating glass window unit, in which a portion of the packaging is convertible to a viewing stand to enable the evaluation of the window prior to installation. The combination includes a package configured to enclose the article and one or more planar packing pads (22) located within the package for providing protection for the article. The one or more planar packing pads is a first pad (30) that is capable of being transitioned from a planar two- dimensional shape to a three-dimensional shape configured to hold and display the article in an upright position. A second pad (60) can be included in the packaging to form a contrasting background behind the glass window for evaluation of the transmitted and reflected glass color. A method for converting the first pad is also provided.
