AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The prior art is difficult to develop a filler material that can supplement the refractive index of OLEDs, while having high transparency, low dielectric constant, good thermal properties, and easy to form a permanent protective coating.

Method used

A single component composition is adopted, which comprises a norbornene-based olefin monomer, two or more UV barriers and latent organoruthenium compounds, and a ring-opening shift polymerization is performed under photolysis conditions to form a transparent optical layer.

Benefits of technology

The transparent optical layer used in OLED manufacturing and 3D printing materials is realized, with high refractive index, low dielectric constant and good thermal properties, while avoiding the retention of short-acting small molecules, providing long-term storage stability and rapid polymerization capabilities.

Abstract

An embodiment according to the present invention comprises a composition comprising a latent organoruthenium compound, a photosensitizer, one or more monomers that undergo ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), and at least two different types of UV blockers, wherein the composition forms a substantially transparent film or three-dimensional object when exposed to suitable actinic radiation. Surprisingly, the above composition is very stable for several weeks under ambient conditions to temperatures up to 80° C., and only undergoes bulk polymerization when exposed to suitable actinic radiation in an inert environment, such as under a nitrogen blanket. Therefore, the composition of the present invention can be used in various optoelectronic applications including 3D printing materials, coatings, packaging materials, fillers, leveling agents, etc.
