Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating a drive unit (1) for a motor vehicle, which has an exhaust gas-generating drive unit and an exhaust gas aftertreatment device (2) designed as a vehicle catalyst for aftertreating the exhaust gas, wherein, by means of a catalyst model, an output concentration of at least one exhaust gas component present downstream of the vehicle catalyst is determined at least temporarily from an input concentration of at least one exhaust gas component present upstream of the vehicle catalyst. It is provided that, when determining the output concentration, a reaction rate and a diffusion rate of at least one exhaust gas component in the vehicle catalyst are taken into account. The invention further relates to a drive unit (1) for a motor vehicle and a computer program product.
