AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing rope locking devices are inefficient, require complex installation, and are sensitive to rope surface conditions, leading to inconsistent performance and reduced efficiency in rope ascents and descents.
Method used
A rope locking device with a deformable channel formed by pivoting L-shaped links that adjust cross-section to control friction, featuring a roller for reduced friction during ascents and a movable flange for easy installation, allowing the device to adapt to various rope conditions and improve efficiency.
Benefits of technology
The device provides efficient rope locking and unlocking with minimal friction, independent of rope wear or surface conditions, enhancing user safety and efficiency in rope ascents and descents.

Abstract
ROPE LOCKING DEVICE AND ROPE LOCKING METHOD A rope locking device comprises a body (1) with a user attachment device (1b) and a first through hole (1a) receiving a rope strand (2). A deformable channel is formed by a plurality of links mounted consecutively one behind the other between a first link (5a) and a last link (5b). The links (5) are fixed consecutively in pairs by pivot shafts (6) and pivotally mounted about pivot axes to modify the channel's cross-section. Each link (5) has two primary contact surfaces intended to be in contact with the rope strand (2), the two primary contact surfaces being opposite each other in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axes. The two primary contact surfaces of each link (5) are pivotally movable relative to each other.
