AI Technical Summary
Current cancer treatments lack effective methods to reduce cancer cell viability and prevent tumor growth using a combination of tumor therapeutic electric fields and anti-VEGFR-2 antibodies.
Applying an alternating electric field and administering an anti-VEGFR-2 antibody composition that specifically binds to vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 to treat cancer and prevent tumor growth.
The combined approach effectively reduces cancer cell viability and inhibits tumor growth by targeting VEGFR-2 with an alternating electric field and anti-VEGFR-2 antibodies.

Abstract
Description
HKP2620541 discloses compositions, systems, and methods for treating cancer using tumor therapeutic electric fields and anti-VEGFR-2 antibodies. These compositions, systems, and methods are used to reduce cancer cell viability and treat cancer, as well as to prevent tumor growth in living subjects. The systems and methods involve applying an alternating electric field and administering at least one composition comprising at least one antibody (anti-VEGFR-2 antibody) that specifically binds to vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2. Abstract
Claims
What is claimed is:
1. A kit, comprising: at least one pair of transducer arrays for generating an alternating electric field therebetween upon application of the transducer arrays to at least one cell and / or placement of the transducer arrays on a subject; and at least one composition comprising at least one antibody that specifically binds to a vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (anti-VEGFR-2 antibody).
2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the at least one anti-VEGFR-2 antibody is a monoclonal antibody selected from the group consisting of ramucirumab, DC101, and combinations thereof.
3. The kit of claim 1 or 2, wherein the at least one composition is formulated for oral administration to the subject.
4. The kit of any one of claims 1-3, wherein at least one of: the at least one pair of transducer arrays is capable of generating an alternating electric field having a frequency in a range of from about 50 kHz to about 1 MHz; and the at least one pair of transducer arrays is capable of generating an alternating electric field having a field strength of at least about 1 V / cm.
5. Use of the kit of any one of claims 1-4 in a method of treating cancer, wherein the method comprises the steps of:(1) administering the at least one composition to the subject; and(2) applying an alternating electric field to a target region of the subject.
6. Use of at least one composition comprising at least one anti-VEGFR-2 antibody in a method of treating cancer, wherein the method comprises the steps of:(1) administering the at least one composition to the subject; and(2) applying an alternating electric field to a target region of the subject.
7. The use of claim 6, wherein the at least one anti-VEGFR-2 antibody is a monoclonal antibody selected from the group consisting of ramucirumab, DC101, and combinations thereof.
8. The use of claim 6 or 7, wherein the at least one composition is orally administered to the subject.
9. The use of any one of claims 6-8, wherein at least one of: the alternating electric field is applied at a frequency in a range of from about 50 kHz to about 1 MHz; the alternating electric field has a field strength of at least about 1 V / cm in at least a portion of the cancer cells; and the period of time that the alternating electric field is applied is at least about 24 hours.
10. The use of any one of claims 6-9, wherein the method is further defined as a method of reducing a volume of a tumor and / or preventing an increase of volume of the tumor, wherein the tumor is present in a body of a living subject and includes a plurality of cancer cells.
11. A method of reducing viability of cancer cells, the method comprising the steps of:(1) administering at least one composition to the cancer cells, wherein the at least one composition comprises at least one antibody that specifically binds to a vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (anti-VEGFR-2 antibody); and(2) applying an alternating electric field to the cancer cells.
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the method is performed in vitro or ex vivo.
13. The method of claim 11 or 12, wherein at least one of: the alternating electric field is applied at a frequency in a range of from about 50 kHz to about 1 MHz; the alternating electric field has a field strength of at least about 1 V / cm in at least a portion of the cancer cells; and the period of time that the alternating electric field is applied is at least about 24 hours.
14. The method of any one of claims 11-13, wherein the at least one anti-VEGFR-2 antibody is a monoclonal antibody selected from the group consisting of ramucirumab, DC101, and combinations thereof.
15. The method of any one of claims 11-14, wherein the cancer cells are selected from the group consisting of hepatocellular carcinoma cells, glioblastoma cells, pleural mesothelioma cells, differentiated thyroid cancer cells, advanced renal cell carcinoma cells, ovarian cancers, pancreatic cancers, lung cancer cells, breast cancer cells, and combinations thereof.
