AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing laser eye surgery methods lack precision and consistency in altering eye color, often leading to inconsistent results and potential damage due to arbitrary laser power settings and neglecting the eye's anatomical variations.

Method used

The method involves delivering laser light to the iris based on calculated Minimum Radiation Exposure (MRE) values, using Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limits, and precise distance measurement to ensure safe and effective eye color alteration by targeting specific areas of the iris with tailored power delivery and temperature monitoring.

Benefits of technology

This approach ensures safe and effective eye color alteration by precisely delivering laser power to the iris, avoiding damage and achieving consistent results through controlled temperature changes and macrophage-induced pigment removal.

Abstract

Disclosed is a method of altering a patient's eye color by a color alteration procedure, the method may include determining a laser power to deliver to stromal pigment in an iris of the patient's eye by at least obtaining a set of laser criteria for delivery of an exposure dose that is less than 100 times a maximum allowable exposure dose that results in removal of at least a portion of the stromal pigment. A laser system may be configured to deliver laser light at a laser power that is less than the set of laser criteria, and the laser light may be delivered by the laser system.
