AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing object detection systems using millimeter-wave radars face challenges in accurately removing false image noise, particularly on outdoor asphalt and gravel roads, which leads to erroneous obstacle detection and positioning errors.

Method used

An object detection device equipped with an accumulation unit and a processing unit that performs time filtering on detection points. The processing unit determines whether detection points exceed a reflection intensity threshold within a region of interest, storing valid points and removing false image noise.

Benefits of technology

The solution effectively removes false image noise with high accuracy, improving the reliability of obstacle detection and reducing errors in determining the presence and position of obstacles, even in challenging outdoor environments.

Abstract

To remove a detection point corresponding to false image noise from a detection point group captured by a sensor with high accuracy regardless of a peripheral environment such as a road surface.SOLUTION: An object detection device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: an acquisition unit which acquires information on a detection point group from a sensor installed on a moving body at a predetermined cycle; and a processing unit which performs time filtering processing on each detection point in the latest detection point group. In the time filtering processing, the processing unit uses information on a predetermined number of detection point groups from the latest to the past to be analyzed for a detection point in the latest detection point group to determine whether or not the total of reflection intensities exceeding a predetermined reflection intensity threshold in a region of interest having a predetermined size based on a spatial detection error of a sensor centering on the detection point is equal to or greater than a predetermined quantity threshold, stores the detection point if it is equal to or greater than the quantity threshold, and regards the detection point as false image noise and removes it if it is not equal to or greater than the quantity threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
