[0050] · Part of overlay Wide Area Network (WAN) network but need to continue to work also when out of network coverage.

[0051] Further, there may be several typical in-X subnetwork use cases. In particular, the use cases of in-robot / in-production module subnetworks and in-vehicle subnetworks have extreme performance requirements in both reliability (up to 6 nines or more) and latency (down to the level of 100us or even below) e.g., for the high demanding periodic deterministic communication services and these use cases may be the most challenging scenarios in sixth generation (6G) system.

[0052] In addition, an enabling technical component for provisioning of extreme performance requirements especially in latency and reliability (e.g., 6 or more nines of reliability in latency of 100us for motion control-like applications in in-production module subnetworks or in-vehicle subnetworks) is the subband channelization of the carrier, i.e., the carrier bandwidth is divided into multiple subbands, and each subnetwork operates in one (or more) subband to provide extreme connections. In this case, the subnetwork resource selection is essentially the issue of subband selection for the subnetworks so that each subnetwork is allocated one (or more) subband with the inter-subnetwork interference kept as low as possible, which is critical to fulfilling the extreme performance requirements.

[0053] In cellular networks, power allocation / control is employed especially in the uplink, mainly for aligning the received power at the BS for the different UEs to prevent the cell center UEs’strong signals from overwhelming the cell edge UE’s weak signals. In general, there are significant differences in transmit powers between the BS and the UEs (i.e., in DL and UL) , as well as among different UEs in the uplink, depending on their locations relative to the BS.

[0054] For subnetworks, new paradigm in power allocation / control is needed due to the distinct properties of the subnetworks as mentioned in the previous section. In particular, comparable (even the same) low transmit powers can be used by the AP and the devices in the subnetworks. In some solutions, fixed transmit power (e.g., -10dBm per channel) may be assumed for the AP and the devices over all the subnetworks.

[0055] According to a solution, a framework of subband allocation based on the  inter-subnetwork weighted interference over all the candidate subbands have been proposed to suppress the inter-subnetwork interference, especially for the weak subnetworks / links. In this solution, the same transmit power is also assumed for the APs and the devices across all the subnetworks.

[0056] As mentioned above, in the solutions on subnetworks, a fixed (low) transmit power is generally assumed for the APs and devices over all the subnetworks. Therefore, a solution on how to allocate power dynamically is needed to improve the system performance.

[0057] According to example embodiments of the present disclosure, a solution on power allocation for subnetworks is proposed. In particular, embodiments of the present disclosure can improve system performance with novel operations in transmit power domain. More specifically, embodiments of the present disclosure can allocate (or coordinate) transmission powers to the co-subband subnetworks to further reduce the inter-subnetwork interference.

[0058] FIG. 1 shows an example communication network 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may include an access point (AP) 110 (hereinafter may also be referred to as a first device 110 or an in-X subnetwork AP 110) . The AP 110 may be implemented as a terminal device or a network device. The communication network 100 may also include terminal devices 130-1 and 130-2 (hereinafter may also be referred to as an in-X subnetwork terminal device 130, an in-X subnetwork UE 130 or a third device 130 collectively) . The AP 110 may communicate with the terminal devices 130-1 and 130-2 in a coverage of subnetwork 101 (may also referred toa as a first subnetwork 101 hereinafter) , which may be referred to as an in-X subnetwork. The in-X subnetwork may be considered as a part of the communication network 100.

[0059] The communication network 100 may further include a network device 120 (hereinafter may also be referred to as a second device 120 or a base station (BS) 120) , which may communicate with the AP 110 in a coverage of the network 103. In some scenarios, the coverage of the subnetwork 101 may be in the coverage of the network 103. In some other scenarios, the coverage of the subnetwork 101 may be out of the coverage of the network 103.

[0060] Further, the communication network 100 may also include other subnetworks, for  example, a subnetwork 102 (may also referred to as a first subnetwork 101 hereinafter) . It is to be understood that the number of in-X subnetworks, network devices and terminal devices shown in FIG. 1 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The communication network 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and terminal devices.

[0061] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , includes, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, includes but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0062] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0063] Reference is now made to FIG. 2, which shows a signaling chart 200 for communication according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 2, the signaling chart 200 involves an in-X subnetwork AP 110 (hereinafter may also be referred to AP 110) , a BS 120 and an in-X subnetwork device 130 (hereinafter may also be referred to device 130) . For the purpose of discussion, reference is made to FIG. 1 to describe the signaling chart 200. Although a single AP 110 and a single device 130 are illustrated in FIG. 2, it would be appreciated that there may be a plurality of APs and a plurality of devices performing similar operations as described with respect to the AP 110 and the device 130 below, respectively.

[0064] As shown in FIG. 2, a subband allocation may be performed (2000) . After the subband allocation, subnetworks allocated with the same subband may be called co-subband subnetworks. For example, if the subnetworks 101 and 102 are operating over  same time and frequency resources, the subnetworks 101 and 102 may be regarded as co-subband subnetworks.

[0065] In some example embodiments, a centralized subband allocation may be used for subband allocation among the subnetworks (for example, the subnetworks 101 and 102) . In the centralized subband allocation, the subnetworks may report inter-subnetwork interference related information, or subnetwork position information (or any other relevant information) to enable the BS 120 to create a whole view of the subnetwork deployment and interference situations to make the subband allocation. In this case, the BS 120 can have the information of co-subband subnetworks per subband.

[0066] Alternatively, a distributed subband allocation may be used for subband allocation among the subnetworks. In the distributed subband allocation, the subnetworks (for example, the subnetworks 101 and 102) may (re) select new subband based on local measurements by the subnetwork AP (for example, AP 110) and / or the devices (for example, the devices 130-1 and 130-2) . In some example embodiments, the local measurements and the subband (re) selection may be performed periodically. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the subnetwork 101 may perform (3010) the distributed subband allocation procedure to select a new subband. The subnetwork 101 may indicate (3020) the new selected subband to the BS 120. The BS 120 may perform a power allocation for the co-subband subnetworks, which will be described later in detail.

[0067] The BS 120 transmits a configuration indicating a target link type to at least one device (for example, the AP 110 and / or the device 130-1) in the subnetwork 101. For example, referring back to FIG. 2, the BS 120 may transmit (2005) the configuration to the AP 110 in the subnetwork 101. In this case, the AP 110 may forward (2005’ ) the configuration to the device 130 in the subnetwork 101.

[0068] In some example embodiments, the target link type may include a downlink type, i.e., the link from the AP 110 to the device 130. Alternatively, the target link type may include an uplink type, i.e., the link from the device 130 to the AP 110. In some other example embodiments, the target link type may include all-link type, which means the target link type incorporates all links in the subnetwork 101 including the downlink, the uplink and / or sidelink (i.e., the link between the devices 130-1 and 130-2) .

[0069] In some example embodiments, the configuration may further indicate one or more first reference signal ports for intra-subnetwork measurements in the subnetwork 101.  Alternatively, or in addition, the configuration may include one or more second reference signal ports for the subnetwork 102 for inter-subnetwork interference measurements in the subnetwork 101. In this case, the one or more first reference signal ports and the one or more second reference signal ports may be orthogonal to each other to enable accurate measurements.

[0070] The configuration may also indicate a target transmission power at least for the at least one first reference signal port for the target link type in the subnetwork 101. For example, if the target link type is the uplink, the configuration may indicate a target transmission power for the uplink. Alternatively, if the target link type is the downlink, the configuration may indicate a target transmission power for the downlink. In some other example embodiments, if the target link type includes the downlink and the uplink, the configuration may indicate a target transmission power that can be used for both the downlink and the uplink. Alternatively, if the target link type includes the downlink and the uplink, the configuration may indicate a target transmission power for the downlink and another target transmission power for the uplink. In some example embodiments, the target transmission power may be preconfigured at the subnetwork 101. The target transmission power may be common across all co-subband subnetworks (for example, the subnetworks 101 and 102) .

[0071] In some example embodiments, some of the inter-subnetwork weighted interference information may have already been available at the BS 120. In this case, the BS 120 can configure the target link type appropriately to acquire the remaining (or part of the remaining) inter-subnetwork weighted interference information to perform the transmission power allocations. For example, assume the BS 120 has already obtained the information of the inter-subnetwork weighted interference (generally for downlink) over all the candidate subbands for subband allocation, in this case the BS 120 can configure the target link type as uplink type and trigger the co-subband weighted interference acquisition procedure to obtain the additional information of the inter-subnetwork weighted interference for uplink to perform the transmit power allocation for both downlink and uplink (i.e., optimize the transmit power for downlink and uplink separately) .

[0072] In some example embodiments, the AP 110 may act as a transmitter for the target link type and the device 130 may act as a receiver for the target link type. For example, if the target link type in the downlink, the AP 110 acts as the transmitter and the device 130 acts as the receiver for the downlink. In this case, the AP 110 may transmit (2010) a  reference signal to the device 130. In other wors, the device 130 may receive the reference signal from the AP 110. The reference signal can be transmitted with the target transmission power on the first reference signal port. The device 130 may perform (2015) a measurement on the reference signal from the AP 110. For example, the device 130 may measure a received power of the reference signal as intra-subnetwork measurements. The device 130 may further receive another reference signal on the second reference signal port from a device in the subnetwork 102 and measure a received power of the reference signal from the device in the subnetwork 120 as inter-subnetwork interference measurements. In this case, the device 130 may determine an interference-to-signal power ratio based on the measured received powers of the intra-subnetwork measurements and the measured received powers of the inter-subnetwork interference measurements. The device 130 may transmit (2020) feedback indicating the interference-to-signal power ratio to the AP 110.

[0073] Alternatively, the AP 110 may act as a receiver for the target link type and the device 130 may act as a transmitter for the target link type. For example, if the target link type in the uplink, the AP 110 acts as the receiver and the device 130 acts as the transmitter for the uplink. In this case, the device 130 may transmit (2010’ ) a reference signal to the AP 110. In other wors, the AP 110 may receive the reference signal from the device 130. The reference signal can be transmitted with the target transmission power on the first reference signal port. The AP 110 may perform (2015’ ) a measurement on the received reference signal from the device 130. For example, the AP 110 may measure a received power of the reference signal as intra-subnetwork measurements. The AP 110 may further receive another reference signal on the second reference signal port from a device in the subnetwork 102 and measure a received power of the reference signal from the device in the subnetwork 120 as inter-subnetwork interference measurements. In this case, the AP 110 may determine an interference-to-signal power ratio based on the measured received powers of the intra-subnetwork measurements and the measured received powers of the inter-subnetwork interference measurements.

[0074] The AP 110 may obtain a set of interference-to-signal power ratios for the target link type. For example, if the AP 110 acts as the receiver for the target link type, the AP 110 may determine the set of interference-to-signal power ratios based on the intra-subnetwork interference measurements and the inter-subnetwork interference measurements performed by itself. Alternatively, if the AP acts as the transmitter for the target link type, the AP 110 may receive a plurality of interference-to-signal power ratios from the devices in the  subnetwork 101, respectively. By way of example, the set of interference-to-signal power ratios may include an interference-to-signal power ratio determined by the device 130-1 and another interference-to-signal power ratio determined by the device 130-2.

[0075] The AP 110 may determine the inter-subnetwork weighted interference for the target link type based on the set of interference-to-signal power ratios. For example, the inter-subnetwork weighted interference may indicate a combination of the set of interference-to-signal power ratios. In some example embodiments, the inter-subnetwork weighted interference may be a sum of the set of interference-to-signal power ratios. Alternatively, the inter-subnetwork weighted interference may be the maximum interference-to-signal power ratio in the set of interference-to-signal power ratios.

[0076] The AP 110 transmits (2030) a report indicating the inter-subnetwork weighted interference for the target link type between the subnetworks 101 and 102. In some embodiments, the report may indicate the inter-subnetwork weighted interference for the target link type between the subnetwork 101 and each of co-subband subnetworks of the subnetwork 101.

[0077] The BS 120 determines an allocated transmission power for the target link type in the subnetwork 101 based at least on the report. For example, if the target link type is the uplink, the BS 120 may determine the allocated transmission power for the uplink. Alternatively, if the target link type is the downlink, the BS 120 may determine the allocated transmission power for the downlink. In some other example embodiments, if the target link type includes the downlink and the uplink, the BS 120 may determine the allocated transmission power that can be used for both the downlink and the uplink. Alternatively, if the target link type includes the downlink and the uplink, the BS 120 may determine the allocated transmission power for the downlink and another allocated transmission power for the uplink.

[0078] The BS 120 may determine an inter-subnetwork weighted interference matrix based on the reports from the subnetworks 101 and 102. In this case, the BS 120 may determine allocated transmission powers for the target link type in the subnetworks 101 and 102 by minimizing a sum of expected weighted interferences in the subnetworks 101 and 102 after applying the allocated transmission powers. For example, the BS 120 may determine an allocated transmission power for the subnetwork 101 and another allocated transmission power for the subnetwork 102.

[0079] The BS 120 may initialize (2035) a power allocation status. For example, the power allocation may be initialized by allocating transmission powers to the subnetworks 101 and 102 from a set of candidate transmission powers. In this case, the BS 120 may perform (2040) a number of iteration rounds. In each round sequentially for each of the subnetworks 101, the BS 120 may select a transmission power from the set of candidate transmission powers such that the transmission power minimizes a sum of weighted interferences received from other subnetworks and weighted interferences caused to the other subnetworks after applying the transmission power for the subnetwork, and the BS 120 may update the power allocation status for the subnetwork. For example, if the radio access networks includes the first subnetwork (i.e., the subnetwork 101) , the second subnetwork (i.e., the subnetwork 102) and a third subnetwork (not shown in FIG. 1) , the BS 120 may then, in each round of the iteration rounds, select a first transmission power for the first subnetwork that minimizes the sum of weighted interferences received from the second and third subnetworks and weighted interferences caused to the second and third subnetworks after applying the first transmission power for the first subnetwork, a second transmission power for the second subnetwork that minimizes the sum of weighted interferences received from the first and third subnetworks and weighted interferences caused to the first and third subnetworks after applying the second transmission power for the second subnetwork, and a third transmission power for the third subnetwork that minimizes the sum of weighted interferences received from the first and second subnetworks and weighted interferences caused to the first and second subnetworks after applying the third transmission power for the third subnetwork. In other words, each round includes sequential power allocation for the subnetworks one-by-one with the operations for one subnetwork as: selecting the specific transmit power from the candidate transmission power set that minimizes the sum of weighted interferences perceived by the subnetwork from other subnetworks and the weighted interferences caused by the subnetwork to other subnetworks; then updating the power allocation status for the subnetwork with the selected transmit power. The BS 120 may determine (2045) the allocated transmission powers for the target link type in the subnetworks 101 and 102 based on latest power allocation status.

[0080] By way of example, assuming subband allocation has been done for the subnetworks and without loss of generality, for one subband (say subband k) , the indexes of the co-subband subnetworks may be denoted by the set  (set size denoted by N)  and the co-subband inter-subnetwork weighted interference may be denoted by an N-by-N matrix W. Furthermore, assuming each of the co-subband subnetworks applies a transmit power, denoted by xn, n=1, 2, …, N for the nth subnetwork, the sum inter-subnetwork weighted interference across all the co-subband subnetworks denoted by f (x) , can be expressed as follows:

[0081] where x= (x1, 2, …, xN) and by abuse of notation, denotes the row vector  Besides, the superscript ‘T’ denotes the transpose operation.

[0082] The sum weighted interference, f (x) , can be understood as follows. When collecting and computing the weighted interference matrix W, the assumption is that all relevant nodes in all subnetworks are transmitting with the same transmit power. Therefore, to determine the actual experienced weighted interference in the network, one has to scale the entries in W by the actual transmit power for each subnetwork, i.e., x values. By calculating f (x) , each weighted interference entry (i.e., a kind of linear combination of the interference-to-signal power ratios) in W is effectively multiplied by the power of the interferer and divided by the power of the signal source, thus scaling the weighted interference by the actual transmit power of the subnetworks. Note that the above equation only considers the interference power and ignores the noise power, thus the above power allocation modeling mainly targets the interference limited subnetwork scenarios.

[0083] In this embodiment, it is assumed that the transmit power for power allocation, i.e., xn for the nth subnetwork, takes values from a candidate transmit power set, denoted by  An example of the candidate transmit power set is as follows:  dBm. The example of power allocation operations shown in the whole procedure can be described as follows in more detail. For example, the power allocation status may be initialized by allocating to each subnetwork a transmit power from the candidate transmit power set, e.g., the initial power allocation status x is set as xn=-10 dBm,  The BS 120 may run a configurable number of rounds of iterations for power allocation. Note that in each round, all the N subnetworks are sequentially allocated an interim transmit power, with the operations for  the subnetwork n described as follows (up-to-date power allocation status denoted as x) . For example, the BS 120 may perform the following operations for updating xn with value and denoted as x (p) (other elements of x unchanged) ; obtaining sum weighted interference as As only xn in x (p) is updated, a part of f (x (p) ) related to xn may be obtained as The BS 120 may determine the interim power allocation for subnetwork n as follows:  where argminp { (p) } denotes the specific p that minimize g (p) .

[0084] In some example embodiments, the AP 110 may transmit inter-subnetwork interference related information to the BS 120. In this case, the BS 120 may determine the power allocation for the subnetwork 101 based on the inter-subnetwork interference related information. Alternatively, as mentioned above, the AP 110 may indicate the new subband. In this case, the BS 120 may determine the power allocation for the new subband.

[0085] The BS 120 transmits (2050) an indication regarding the allocated transmission power to at least one device in the subnetwork 101, for example, to the AP 110. The AP 110 may forward (2050’ ) the indication to the device 130. For example, the indication regarding the allocated transmission power may include an index of the allocated transmission power in the set of candidate transmission powers. By way of example, a table including the set of candidate transmission powers may be configured at the AP 110 and the device 130. The allocated transmission power may be obtained based on the index and the table.

[0086] The one or more devices in the subnetwork 101, for example, the AP 110 and the device 130, performs the communication for the target link type using the allocated transmission power. For example, the allocated transmission power may be used for all intra-subnetwork transmissions for the target link type.

[0087] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, it proposes the co-subband interference acquisition procedure (e.g., configurations of the target link type for measurement and transmit power allocations, reference signal transmissions with common transmit power across the co-subband subnetworks) . It also proposes power allocation operations (e.g., allocate transmit powers from a candidate transmit power set to minimize the sum weighted interference across all the co-subband subnetworks) . In this way, the system performance can be improved under the conditions that the corresponding  relationship between the interfering transmitters and the interfered receivers among different subnetworks remains (semi-) persistent, which can be fulfilled e.g., in DL transmissions (assume DL part in each transmission cycle aligns among subnetworks) , or in UL transmissions (if semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) -like scheduling is used and UL part aligns among subnetworks) , or in all-link-type transmissions (if SPS-like scheduling is used for all transmissions in each transmission cycle) . These conditions may be readily fulfilled in some typical subnetwork scenarios e.g., in wireless industrial control applications with isochronous traffic. The target link type can be set to the specific link type that the conditions above are fulfilled. Further, the proposed transmit power allocation scheme can effectively improve the inter-subnetwork interference management in comparison to the commonly assumed fixed transmit power.

[0088] In addition, system level simulations can be made to evaluate embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, in-factory subnetwork scenarios may be assumed with 60 subnetworks deployed (without overlapping) in an area of 50m-by-50m. For each subnetwork, a circular area with radius of 2.0m is assumed with an AP in the center and eight devices randomly deployed in the area. Each subnetwork moves at a velocity of 5kmph in a random direction. It is further assumed that 1TX2RX is employed at both the AP and the devices. The other conditions are listed in the following table. FIG. 4 shows a snapshot of the subnetwork deployment. FIG. 5 shows the resource structure in time and frequency domains assumed in the simulations.

[0089] Table 1: Main parameter setting in the simulations

[0090] As shown in FIG. 6A and FIG. 6B, cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) of the block error rate (BLER) of the weakest link per subnetwork are shown for different subband numbers which are allocated to the 60 subnetworks. In the simulations, the proposed transmission power allocation scheme (denoted by SIPA in FIG. 6A and FIG. 6B) according to embodiments of the present disclosure is compared with the fixed transmit power case. Note that in the simulations, the transmission power allocation is performed separately for DL (shown in FIG. 6A) and UL (shown in FIG. 6B) , where it is assumed the co-subband weighted interference acquisition procedure is used to acquire the weighted interference information in UL (i.e., the target link type is set to UL link type) and the co-subband weighted interference information in DL is assumed to be extracted from the whole weighted interference information (over the multiple candidate subbands) used for subband allocation. From the simulation results, it can be observed that significant performance gains are achieved by using the proposed transmit power allocation, especially for relatively small subband number (which implies more severe inter-subnetwork interference) and / or for UL transmissions.

[0100] In some example embodiments, the method 700 further comprises: initializing a power allocation status by allocating transmission powers to the first subnetwork and the second subnetwork from a set of candidate transmission powers; performing a number of iteration rounds, in each round sequentially for each one of the first subnetwork and the second subnetwork, selecting a transmission power from the set of candidate transmission powers, the transmission power minimizing a sum of weighted interferences received from other subnetworks in the radio access network and weighted interferences caused to the other subnetworks in the radio access network after applying the transmission power for the subnetwork, and updating the power allocation status for the subnetwork; and determining the allocated transmission powers for the target link type in the first subnetwork and the second subnetwork based on latest power allocation status.

[0101] In some example embodiments, the indication regarding the allocated transmission power comprises an index of the allocated transmission power in the set of candidate transmission powers.
