AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The use of alternative fuels like low carbon or renewable ammonia in gas conversion processes leads to significantly higher nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels in the flue gas, which existing technologies struggle to efficiently reduce.

Method used

An apparatus and process featuring a fired equipment for combustion, combined with a selective catalytic reductive system comprising at least two catalyst beds in series, and a reductant injection system to catalytically reduce NOx levels in the flue gas.

Benefits of technology

The arrangement of multiple catalyst beds in series and strategic reductant injection significantly reduces NOx levels in the flue gas, achieving a more efficient abatement compared to prior art methods.

Abstract

Apparatus for the conversion of a gas feed into a hydrogen-containing effluent gas, said apparatus comprising : - a fired equipment (1) configured for the combustion of a fuel stream, thereby generating heat and a flue gas, - a selective catalytic reductive system arranged in fluid communication with the fired equipment (1) for catalytically reducing a content of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas, wherein said selective catalytic reductive system comprises at least two catalyst beds, each of the at least two catalyst beds comprising a selective reduction catalyst configured for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides, said at least two catalyst beds being fluidically arranged in series to reduce said content of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas.
