AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current hydrogen infrastructure lacks the convenience and scalability needed for large-scale industrial applications, particularly in mining where existing road-going hydrogen tankers and trailers are unsuitable due to size constraints and inability to navigate rough terrain.

Method used

A mobile hydrogen refueling system comprising a platform coupleable to a vehicle, a storage module for liquid hydrogen, a transfer module for pressurizing and distributing hydrogen, and a refueling interface for engaging with mining vehicles, enabling efficient storage, transportation, and refueling of hydrogen in large-scale industrial settings.

Benefits of technology

The mobile hydrogen refueling system provides a scalable and convenient solution for large-scale industrial hydrogen refueling, overcoming size and terrain limitations, and enabling continuous operation of hydrogen-powered equipment.

Abstract

An apparatus for liquid hydrogen refueling on a mining site includes a mobile platform coupleable to a vehicle. A storage module removably coupleable to the mobile platform. The storage module stores a hydrogen tank that is configured to store liquid hydrogen. A transfer module is coupleable to the mobile platform, the transfer module configured to receive a first flow of liquid hydrogen from the hydrogen tank, and communicate a first portion of the first flow to a mining vehicle and a second portion of the first flow back to the hydrogen tank. A refueling interface configured to engage a refueling interface of a liquid hydrogen tank of the mining vehicle and to selectively convey a flow of liquid hydrogen from the transfer module to the liquid hydrogen tank of the mining vehicle.
