AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current endovascular thrombectomy devices have a lower success rate in removing chronic thrombus due to its transformation into a tougher fibrin or collagen structure, which is firmly adhered to the vein wall, and venous synechiae can prevent optimal treatment by balloon angioplasty or stenting.

Method used

A device comprising an elongate control member with an expandable basket coupled to its distal portion, the basket having a plurality of braided filaments defining an interior cavity and configured to capture and remove chronic thrombus from blood vessel lumens, with legs that position the basket independently of the control member's path to maintain contact with the vessel wall.

Benefits of technology

The device effectively captures and removes chronic thrombus, even in curved vessels, by maintaining contact with the vessel wall and providing mechanical decoupling between the basket's proximal edge and the control member, thereby enhancing the success rate of thrombectomy procedures.

Abstract

Endovascular treatment devices are disclosed herein. According to some embodiments, the present technology includes an elongate control member and an expandable basket coupled to a distal portion of the control member. The basket can comprise a plurality of braided filaments having a proximal opening surrounding by a proximal edge. The basket can further comprise first and second legs having respective proximal ends coupled to the control member at a connection and distal ends at the proximal edge of the basket. Each of the first and second legs can be formed of bundled portions of the filaments. The first and second legs can be configured to position the basket within the blood vessel lumen independent of the path of the control member such that the proximal edge of the basket remains in contact with an inner surface of the blood vessel lumen when the basket is positioned around a curve.
