AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Digital twins require frequent calibration and synchronization to maintain accuracy, especially in the presence of manipulations, cyber attacks, or changes in the real system, which can lead to deviations and incorrect calibration if not properly managed.

Method used

A method and system that utilize hash values of interval values to ensure safe calibration of digital twins by only allowing calibration if the real system is in a safe state, represented by reference hash values stored in a database.

Benefits of technology

This approach ensures that digital twins are calibrated only in secure conditions, preventing errors and cyber attacks, and allows for real-time calibration by quickly determining complex process states.

Abstract

The objective is to further improve the use of digital twins in the operation of real devices. To this end, a method for calibration or synchronisation is proposed in which first, a reference hash value database with a plurality of reference hash values is provided (S2). In an operating phase, a process value is detected (S3) for each of a plurality of process parameters in a particular state of the real device. A respective interval value (7, 8, 11) of a respective confidence interval (5, 6, 10) is allocated (S4) to each process value, the process value being in said confidence interval. A hash value is formed (S5) for the particular state of the real device from the allocated interval values (7, 8, 11). Finally, the digital twin is calibrated or synchronised (S7) with the detected process values only if the formed hash value matches one of the reference hash values.
