AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing vehicle systems lack an efficient method to automatically delay a vehicle when approaching a light signal system, especially when the relevance of a red light signal to the vehicle's direction is unclear.

Method used

A device and procedure that utilize environment sensors to recognize a light signal system with a red light signal, automatically initiating a delayed process with a low first delay value to alert the driver, and escalating to a higher second delay value if the driver does not intervene, ensuring the vehicle stops at the light signal.

Benefits of technology

This solution enhances the comfort and safety of automated longitudinal control by providing a seamless and user-friendly automatic delay process, ensuring the vehicle stops correctly at light signals even when the driver is not immediately aware of the signal's relevance.

Abstract

The invention relates to a device for decelerating a motor vehicle upon approaching a light-signal system. The device is designed to detect a light-signal system with a red light signal, from which it cannot be determined whether the red light is relevant to the motor vehicle or not, and in response to the detection, automatically produce a deceleration of the motor vehicle with a first deceleration value in a first phase of an automatic deceleration process. The device is additionally designed to determine whether or not a user input for terminating the automatic deceleration process was carried out by the user of the motor vehicle in the first phase of the automatic deceleration process, and in a subsequent second phase of the automatic deceleration process, produce a deceleration of the motor vehicle with a second deceleration value which is greater than the first deceleration value if it is determined that no user input for terminating the automatic deceleration process was carried out.
