Provided is a plated steel wire for a steel cord, comprising a steel wire and a brass plating layer covering the outer peripheral surface of the steel wire, wherein: the brass plating layer is located on the outermost surface of the plated steel wire for a steel cord; and the nitrogen content of the outermost surface of the brass plating layer is 1.0-10.0 atom%, the nitrogen content being measured through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
