AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing surgical devices lack the capability to accurately identify and manage the type and maintenance status of surgical application units due to limited resistor types, restricting data acquisition and leading to potential misuse of unmaintained units.

Method used

Incorporation of an RFID chip and antenna within the coupling devices of the surgical device, along with additional coupling contacts, allows for bidirectional data transmission and energy supply to the RFID chip, enabling precise identification and management of surgical units through stored data like serial numbers and maintenance history.

Benefits of technology

Ensures high transparency and reliable prevention of unmaintained unit use by allowing controlled access based on stored data, facilitating efficient maintenance and operation.

Abstract

The surgical device according to this disclosure comprises a surgical application section, in which an RFID chip and an RFID antenna adjacent to the RFID chip are disposed, and has an electrical supply cable that can be coupled to the surgical application section. The surgical application section and the electrical supply cable can be coupled to each other in an OFF state in which the first coupling contacts of the first and second coupling devices are electrically engaged and the second coupling contacts are electrically disengaged, or in an ON state in which both the first and second coupling contacts are electrically engaged. The first and second coupling devices each include an additional coupling contact, which is configured to be electrically engaged and supply energy to the RFID antenna, at least in the OFF state.
