AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing autoinjectors often confuse users about which end to activate due to two-ended activation processes, potentially leading to misuse, and lack safety features to prevent accidental operation and maintain sterility after use, while also being inefficient in material usage.

Method used

An autoinjector design with a safety cap that locks the actuation unit until removed, allowing single-handed operation from the front end, maintaining sterility and preventing unintended actuation, and incorporating a power pack with a compact and efficient mechanism for needle protection and medicament delivery.

Benefits of technology

Ensures intuitive and safe operation by locking the device until ready for use, maintains sterility, and optimizes material usage through efficient design and assembly.

Abstract

An autoinjector (1) is disclosed. The autoinjector comprises a main casing (10); a cartridge assembly (30) disposed within the main casing (10). The cartridge assembly may include a cartridge (3) land a needle (40). A power pack (100) is disposed within the main casing (10) for moving the cartridge (31) and the needle (40) from a storage position to an injection position when actuated. An actuation unit (50) comprises a cartridge container (52) and a needle cover (60) disposed between the cartridge container (52) and the main casing (10). The actuation unit (50) is operably coupled to the power pack (110) and retractable from a first position to an actuation position for actuating the power pack. The needle cover (60) is extendable to an extended position covering the needle (40) when the cartridge (31) and the needle (40) are in the injection position. A safety cap (20) is removable from a mounted position on a front end of the main casing (10) to expose a front portion of the actuation unit (50).
