A method for validating a filter unit is disclosed wherein the method comprises:-after a fluid flow of a fluid passes through the filter unit, directing the fluid flow to a measurement region connected to the filter unit wherein within the measurement region the fluid is exposed to at least one alternating electric field between at least two electrodes; obtaining at least one electrical signal between the at least two electrodes, the at least one electrical signal being at least influenced by whether one or more of the plurality of cells in the fluid pass through the measurement region; and-determining at least one piece of validity information indicative of the validity of the filter unit based at least in part on the obtained at least one electrical signal.
