SSD performance management using a hybrid method for PCIe connection status

Abstract

Instead of separately using PCIe Link Speed ​​Modulation and PCIe Link Power State, these strategies are used in combination. This combination balances PCIe front-end power costs, back-end power costs, and Quality of Service (QoS). The solid-state drive's (SSD) performance range is mapped to the PCIe Link Speed ​​Modulation and PCIe Link Power State strategies to configure four distinct zones. These zones provide high QoS at high performance points, with a gradual performance degradation towards lower performance points.A performance-related / thermally limited system dictates a certain performance that the SSD is optimally able to meet by using both methods at different performance points.
