Abstract

Some aspects of the present disclosure relates to UE-to-UE COT sharing including destination selection, MAC multiplexing, resource selection, and DRX timer settings on unlicensed bands. In some aspects, if an initialing UE initiates a COT and transmits a shared COT information to a responding UE, the responding UE prioritizes the initialing UE when selecting a destination UE, based on the shared COT information. Priority of logic channels and / or MAC-CEs for the initialing UE is assessed and compared with a channel access priority class (CAPC) value for granting the COT (CAPC-COT). CAPC values for other candidate UEs may also be considered when selecting the destination UE. Thereby, a balance is achieved between the UE-to-UE COT sharing and logic channel prioritization. Additional aspects and details of the disclosure are further described below with reference to figures.

[0015] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. Like reference numbers in different drawings may identify the same or similar features, elements, operations, etc. Additionally, the present disclosure is not limited to the following description as other implementations may be utilized, and structural or logical changes made, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0016] Wireless communication networks may include user equipment (UEs) capable of communicating wirelessly with base stations and other network nodes and also UE-to-UE direct communication using sidelink (SL) signaling. For SL communication between UEs, the resource allocation may be performed using either mode 1 or mode 2. In mode 1, the network (e.g., a base station) allocates resources and communicates the resource allocation to the UEs via Uu operation, and the UEs transmit / receive SL signals using the allocated resources. In mode 2, at least one of the UEs participating in SL communication will allocate resources and communicate the resource allocation autonomously to one or more other UEs. The SL resources may be selected or reserved from SL resource pools, which can be shared by multiple SL UEs. While the Uu operation for mode 1 is limited to licensed spectrum, other SL transmissions may use unlicensed bands as complementary spectrum for providing higher system capacity and transmission flexibility. A legacy SL UE selects a destination UE based on logic channel priority.  Then MAC PDUs (Protocol Data Units) are generated by MAC multiplexing, and a resource selection is performed. However, with coexistence schemes such as shared Channel Occupancy Time (COT) incorporated in SL communication, COT would be wasted if an initialing UE that initiates the COT is not selected as the destination. On the other hand, availabilities and priorities of the sidelink data for all candidate UEs, including the initialing UE, also need to be considered when selecting and transmitting SL data by the responding UE.

[0017] Accordingly, some aspects of the present disclosure relates to UE-to-UE COT sharing including destination selection, MAC multiplexing, resource selection, and DRX timer settings on unlicensed bands. In some aspects, if an initialing UE initiates a COT and transmits a shared COT information to a responding UE, the responding UE prioritizes the initialing UE when selecting a destination UE, based on the shared COT information. Availability and priority of logic channels and / or MAC-CEs for the initialing UE are assessed and compared with a channel access priority class (CAPC) value for granting the COT (CAPC-COT) . CAPC values for other candidate UEs may also be considered when selecting the destination UE. Thereby, a balance is achieved between the UE-to-UE COT sharing and logic channel prioritization. Additional aspects and details of the disclosure are further described below with reference to figures.

[0018] Fig. 1 is a block diagram illustrating systems and devices of an example network 100 including a plurality of UEs 110-1, 110-2, 110-3, 110-4 etc. configured to perform SL communication over unlicensed bands, and related methods and operations, in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. The systems and devices of example network 100 may operate in accordance with one or more communication standards, such as 4th generation (4G) (e.g., long-term evolution (LTE) ) , 5th generation (5G) (e.g., new radio (NR) ) , and / or other communication standards of the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) . Additionally, or alternatively, one or more of the systems and devices of example network 100 may operate in accordance with other communication standards and protocols discussed herein, including future versions or generations of 3GPP standards (e.g., sixth generation (6G) standards, etc. ) , institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) standards (e.g., wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) , worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) , etc. ) , and more.

[0019] The UEs 110-1, 110-2, 110-3, 110-4 etc. (also referred as UEs 110 hereafter) may comprise types of mobile or non-mobile computing devices, such as consumer electronics devices, cellular phones, smartphones, feature phones, tablet computers, wearable computer devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs) , pagers, wireless handsets, desktop computers, laptop computers, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) , in-car entertainment (ICE) devices, an Instrument Cluster (IC) , head-up display (HUD) devices, onboard diagnostic (OBD) devices, dashtop mobile equipment (DME) , mobile data terminals (MDTs) , Electronic Engine Management  System (EEMS) , electronic / engine control units (ECUs) , electronic / engine control modules (ECMs) , embedded systems, microcontrollers, control modules, engine management systems (EMS) , networked or “smart” appliances, Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices, Machine to Machine (M2M) , Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and / or the like.

[0020] Though not shown in the figure, the UEs 110 may also communicate and establish a connection with (e.g., be communicatively coupled with) a Radio Access Network (RAN) node. In some aspects, the RAN node can be a next generation (NG) RAN or a 5G RAN, an evolved-UMTS Terrestrial RAN (E-UTRAN) , or a legacy RAN, such as a UTRAN or GERAN. As used herein, the term “NG RAN” or the like can refer to a RAN node that operates in an NR or 5G system, and the term “E-UTRAN” or the like can refer to a RAN node that operates in an LTE or 4G system. The RAN node may be further connected to a core network (CN) via an NG interface. The CN may comprise a plurality of network elements, which are configured to offer various data and telecommunications services to customers / subscribers (e.g., users of UEs 110) who are connected to the CN via the RAN.

[0021] Further, the RAN node may be configured to wirelessly communicate with the UEs 110, and / or the UEs communicate with one another, over a licensed medium (also referred to as the “licensed spectrum” and / or the “licensed band” ) , an unlicensed shared medium (also referred to as the “unlicensed spectrum” and / or the “unlicensed band” ) , or the combination thereof. A licensed spectrum may correspond to channels or frequency bands selected, reserved, regulated, etc., for certain types of wireless activity (e.g., wireless telecommunication network activity) , whereas an unlicensed spectrum may correspond to one or more frequency bands that are not restricted for certain types of wireless activity. Whether a particular frequency band corresponds to a licensed medium or an unlicensed medium may depend on one or more factors, such as frequency allocations determined by a public-sector organization (e.g., a government agency, regulatory body, etc. ) or frequency allocations determined by a private-sector organization involved in developing wireless communication standards and protocols, etc.

[0022] To operate in the unlicensed spectrum, the UEs 110 and the RAN node may operate using licensed assisted access (LAA) , eLAA, and / or feLAA mechanisms. In these implementations, the UEs 110 and the RAN node may perform one or more medium-sensing operations or carrier-sensing operations in order to determine whether one or more channels in the unlicensed spectrum is unavailable or otherwise occupied prior to transmitting in the unlicensed spectrum. The medium / carrier sensing operations may be performed according to a listen-before-talk (LBT) protocol and other procedures disclosed herein.

[0023] The UE 110-1 is shown as an initialing UE configured to initiate a COT to be potentially shared by other COT sharing candidate UEs 110-2, 110-3, 110-4 etc. The UE 110-2  is shown as a responding UE configured to select a destination UE from a plurality of destination candidate UEs 110-1, 110-3, 110-4 etc., bearing the receiving of a shared COT information of the COT from the initialing UE 110-1.

[0024] It is appreciated that the UEs 110-3, 110-4 are shown as both COT sharing candidates for the initialing UE 110-1 and destination candidates for the responding UE 110-2 for convenience of illustration. However, the COT sharing candidates for the initialing UE 110-1 and destination candidates for the responding UE 110-2 may each comprise one or more UEs different from another with or without overlapping.

[0025] When a new transmission is performed from one of the UEs 110, such as the responding UE 110-2, a SL logic channel prioritization (LCP) 102 may be applied, where a destination UE is selected from a plurality of destination candidate UEs, such as the UEs 110-1, 110-3, 110-4 etc. as examples, that are associated to one of unicast, groupcast and broadcast SL grant associated to an SCI is selected, having at least one of the MAC CE and the logical channel with the highest priority, among the logical channels that satisfy mapping restrictions and scheduling rules.

[0026] As will be described in more details below, the initialing UE 110-1 may send a shared COT information 106 and / or a shared COT inquiry 104 to one or more COT sharing candidate UEs, such as the UEs 110-2, 110-3, 110-4 etc. as examples. In some aspects of the present disclosure, a new procedure for the selection of the destination UE from the plurality of destination candidate UEs 110-1, 110-3, 110-4 etc. is implemented when there is a COT sharing 108 that could be potentially involved. The selection of the destination UE may consider the received shared COT information 106, in addition to data and / or channel priorities of other destination candidate UEs 110-3, 110-4 etc. including the LCP procedure 102.

[0027] For example, as shown by a first indicator 1.1, in some aspects, the responding UE 110-2 prioritizes the initialing UE 110-1 when selecting a destination UE by assessing availability and priority of MAC-CE and / or logic channel for the initialing UE 110-1 and other candidate UEs 110-3, 110-4, based on the shared COT information 106. Thereby, a balance is achieved between utilizing UE-to-UE COT sharing and logic channel prioritization.

[0028] As shown by a second indicator 1.2, in some further aspects, a MAC PDU (Protocol Data Unit) procedure or a MAC related procedure is modified such that the sidelink data transmitted on the COT sharing 108 for the initialing UE 110-1 has a CAPC value smaller or equal to a CAPC-COT.

[0029] For example, a LCP procedure may be restricted for logic channels or MAC CEs with a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT. Alternatively, an additional inquiry and response procedure may be performed between the initialing UE 110-1 and the responding UE 110-2. A  confirmation is only sent back to the initialing UE 110-1 if CAPC values for the initialing UE 110-1 is smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT. Further alternatively, different LBT procedures may be performed based on the CAPC value of the generated MAC PDU, such that TBs with a smaller CAPC value is prioritized.

[0030] As shown by a third indicator 1.3, in some further aspects, a resource selection for transmitting sidelink data is performed in a resource selection window bounded by a COT duration of the COT for the initialing UE 110-1. The resource may be selected from the earliest available identified candidate resources in time domain limited by a COT duration of the COT, such that the SL transmission can be timely transmitted and completed during the COT.

[0031] As shown by a fourth indicator 1.4, in some further aspects, a SL DRX is enhanced with the COT duration, such that the COT sharing 108 can be performed with the responding UE 110-2 in an “ON” state of the SL DRX. For example, an active duration of the SL DRX may be extended to the end of the COT duration of the COT, if the responding UE 110-2 accepts the COT sharing 108 and selects the initialing UE 110-1 as the destination. In addition, a sidelink COT timer may be set from a time a first COT transmission is received from the initialing UE 110-1 to the end of the COT duration of the COT.

[0032] Fig. 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating a process 200 for signaling between two UEs 110-1, 110-2 to perform sidelink communication in a wireless communication network over unlicensed bands in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. The process 200 may be implemented by the initialing UE 110-1 and the responding UE 110-2 as described throughout the disclosure. In some implementations, some or all of the process 200 may be performed by one or more other systems or devices, including one or more of the initialing UE 110-1 and the responding UE 110-2. Additionally, the process 200, and other processes described elsewhere of the disclosure, may include one or more, fewer, additional, differently ordered, and / or arranged operations than those shown in Fig. 2. In some aspects, some or all of the operations of the process 200 may be performed independently, successively, simultaneously, etc., of one or more of the other operations of the process 200. As such, the techniques described herein are not limited to a number, sequence, arrangement, timing, etc., of the operations depicted in Fig. 2 as well as other figures. Further, the process 200 provides examples of operations that may be performed using the techniques described herein. Additional details of the operations presented in Fig. 2, as well as additional and alternative features and operations, are described further below with reference to other Figures.

[0033] At act 210, a shared Channel Occupancy Time (COT) information is transmitted from an initialing UE 110-1 to a responding UE 110-2. The shared COT information includes information of a COT initiated by the initialing UE. In some aspects, the shared COT  information comprises one or more of a duration of the COT, a Layer 1 UE identity of the initialing UE, and a CAPC-COT. In some aspects, the shared COT information may further comprise a priority threshold to use the COT, which will be discussed in more details associated with block 304 of Fig. 3 below. In some aspects, the shared COT information is transmitted with a Sidelink Control Information (SCI) format. The shared COT information may be transmitted on a Physical Sidelink Control Channel (PSCCH) . In some aspects, the shared COT information may be directly communicated between the initialing UE 110-1 and the responding UE 110-2 (unicast) . In other aspects, the initialing UE may send the shared COT information to be received by all candidate UEs within the radio transmission range of the initialing UE 110-1 (broadcast) , or send the shared COT information to be received by a set of receivers which fulfill certain conditions (groupcast) .

[0034] At act 220, the SCI including the shared COT information may be decoded and sent from a physical layer to a MAC layer of the responding UE 110-2. A destination UE is selected based on the shared COT information, and for example, by assessing availability and priority of MAC-CEs and / or logic channels for the initialing UE 110-1 and / or other candidate UEs based on the shared COT information. More details of destination selection will be discussed below associated with Fig. 3, for example.

[0035] At act 230, MAC PDUs are generated. In some aspects, the MAC PDU is generated restricting multiplexing logic channels or MAC CEs with a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT. Alternatively, an additional inquiry and response procedure may be performed, where a confirmation is only sent back to the initialing UE if CAPC values for the initialing UE is smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT. Further alternatively, different LBT procedures may be performed based on the CAPC value of the generated MAC PDU. More details of MAC procedures to restrict SL transmission with CAPC value of a TB greater than the CAPC-COT will be discussed below associated with Figs. 4-7, for example.

[0036] At act 240, a resource is selected for shared COT transmission to the initialing UE. More details of resource selection will be discussed below associated with Fig. 8, for example.

[0037] At act 250, sidelink data for the initialing UE 110-1 is received from the responding UE 110-2 over the shared COT. As discussed above, the destination selection of the initialing UE 110-1 and the transmission of the sidelink data over the shared COT are based on the CAPC-COT as well as priority information of the sidelink data for the initialing UE 110-1 and / or other candidate UEs. More details of transmitting the sidelink data on shared COT using SL-DRX will be discussed below associated with Fig. 9, for example.

[0038] Fig. 3 is a logic flow diagram illustrating a process for a responding UE to receive shared COT information and select a destination based on the shared COT information in  accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. The responding UE may be the responding UE 110-2 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The shared COT information may be the shared COT information 106 as described associated with other figures throughout the description.

[0039] In some aspects, destination candidates for the responding UE include an initialing UE that is configured to initiate a COT, which information is included in the shared COT information. The initialing UE is selected as the destination UE if one or more conditions as shown by blocks 301, 302, 303, and 304 are met. For example, in some aspects, the initialing UE is selected as the destination UE if all conditions as shown by blocks 301, 302, 303, and 304 are met, as shown by Fig. 3. In other aspects, though no additional figures are presented for concise purpose, the initialing UE could be selected as the destination UE if conditions as shown by blocks 301, 302, and 303 are met. Other combination or omission of condition blocks are also amendable for the initialing UE to be selected as the destination UE. In some aspects, only if any of the following conditions as shown by blocks 301, 302, 303, and 304 is not met, the initialing UE is disregarded and a candidate UE sidelink data with the highest logical channel priority is selected as destination.

[0040] At block 301, a determination is made about whether sidelink data for the initialing UE is available. If the sidelink data for the initialing UE is available, a further determination may need to make at block 302. If the sidelink data for the initialing UE is not available, a legacy LCP is performed to select the destination UE among candidate UEs, as shown by block 310.

[0041] At block 302, a determination is made about whether a remaining COT duration is sufficient for transmitting the sidelink data for the initialing UE. Specifically, the remaining COT duration may be determined as sufficient if a sum time of MAC PDU generation, resource selection, LBT procedure, and transmission time of MAC PDU is greater than the remaining time. In some aspects, the time respectively for MAC PDU generation, resource selection, and LBT procedure may be pre-set and may correspond to UE capabilities.

[0042] In some aspects, the determination at block 302 may be made after it is determined that the sidelink data for the initialing UE is available at block 301. If the remaining COT duration is sufficient for transmitting the sidelink data for the initialing UE, a further determination may need to make at block 303. If the remaining COT duration is not sufficient for transmitting the sidelink data for the initialing UE, a legacy LCP is performed to select the destination UE among candidate UEs, as shown by block 310.

[0043] At block 303, a determination is made about whether the sidelink data for the initialing UE has a CAPC value smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT. In some aspects, the determination at block 303 may be made after it is determined that the sidelink data for the  initialing UE is available at block 301 and / or after it is determined that the remaining COT duration is sufficient for transmitting the sidelink data for the initialing UE at block 302. If the sidelink data for the initialing UE has a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT, a legacy LCP is performed to select the destination UE among candidate UEs, as shown by block 310.

[0044] At block 304, a determination is made about whether a data priority threshold criteria of the initialing UE or other candidate UEs is met. The condition at block 304 may be optional, and may be assessed after any one or more conditions at blocks 301, 302, and 303 are determined. If the data priority threshold criteria is met, the initialing UE may be selected as the destination UE, as shown by block 320. If the data priority threshold criteria is not met, a legacy LCP is performed to select the destination UE among candidate UEs as shown by block 310.

[0045] In some aspects, a first priority threshold is set for other candidate UEs. The responding UE may not select the initialing UE as destination if there are SL data for other candidate UEs with a high priority. As an example, the data priority threshold criteria can be a highest priority of SL data for other candidate UEs being lower than the first priority threshold.

[0046] In some alternative aspects, a second priority threshold is set for the initialing UE. The responding UE may select the initialing UE as destination if there are SL data for the initialing UE with a high priority. As an example, the data priority threshold criteria can be a highest priority of SL data for the initialing UE being higher than the second priority threshold.

[0047] In some aspects, the first priority threshold or the second priority threshold is (pre) configured by a base station. The first priority threshold or the second priority threshold may be transmitted to the responding UE via a radio resource control (RRC) from the base station. In some other aspects, the first priority threshold or the second priority threshold is included in the shared COT information that is transmitted from the initialing UE to the responding UE (e.g., as shown by act 210 of Fig. 2) . The first priority threshold or the second priority threshold may be transmitted to the initialing UE via a radio resource control (RRC) from the base station.

[0048] Fig. 4A is a schematic diagram illustrating a MAC structure showing SL logical channels 401 and transport channels 406 in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. The transport channels 406 are Service Access Points (SAPs) between SL physical and MAC layers. SL MAC can access the services provided by the physical layer through the transport channels 406 including Sidelink Shared Channel (SL-SCH) and Sidelink Broadcast Channel (SL-BCH) . The SL logical channels which are SAPs between SL MAC and RLC layers include Sidelink Broadcast Control Channel (SBCCH) for broadcasting SL system information, Sidelink Control Channel (SCCH) for transmission of control information, and Sidelink Traffic Channel (STCH) for transmission of user information.

[0049] The MAC structure provides SL functions such as logical channel prioritization 402, MAC PDU multiplexing and de-multiplexing 403, PDU filtering 404, and HARQ procedure 405, as well as SL channel state information reporting.

[0050] Fig. 4B shows an example of a MAC PDU multiplexing, such as the MAC PDU multiplexing 403 as described in Fig. 4A. An RLC PDU consists of an RLC header 422 and an RLC SDU (Service Data Unit) 421. At MAC sublayer, such an RLC PDU is referred as MAC SDU 423. MAC adds a subheader 424 to the MAC SDU 423 to construct a MAC subPDU 425. The subheader 424 may include fields R / F / LCID / L. R bit is reserved for future updates. F bit indicates size of the Length field L: for F=0, L is 8 bits, else L is 16 bits. L field indicates the length in bytes of either a MAC SDU or a variable-sized CE. This field is absent when not necessary. LCID identifies the logical channel carried in a MAC subPDU, a specific CE or padding. MAC also sends / receives Control Elements (CEs) that carry the control information. A subhead 427 is added to a MAC-CE 426 to construct another MAC subPDU 428. The subheader 427 may include fields R / L / LCID. A padding may also be included to construct an additional MAC subPDU 429.

[0051] Multiple MAC subPDUs including MAC SDUs, MAC CEs, and padding can be part of a single MAC PDU. For SL-SCH, a SL-SCH subheader 430 is added to the MAC subPDUs. The SL-SCH subheader 430 may include fields V / R / SRC / DST. V field indicate version. R field is reserved for future updates. SRC field indicates source Layer-2 ID given by upper layers. DST field indicates destination Layer-2 ID given by upper layers. The MAC PDU is packaged as a Transport Block (TB) 431 and sent on a transport channel to PHY layer for transmission.

[0052] Referring to both Fig. 4A and 4B, in various aspects, a MAC PDU procedure is modified such that the sidelink data transmitted on shared COT has a CAPC value smaller or equal to a CAPC-COT. For example, in some aspects, MAC SDUs 423 or MAC CEs 426 having a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT are restricted from a LCP 402 and subsequent MAC-PDU multiplexing and de-multiplexing 403. In some alternative aspects, different types of listen before talk (LBT) procedures or other sensing procedures are performed depending on a CAPC value of the TB 431. For example, Type 1 LBT may be performed, if the CAPC value of the TB 431 is greater than the CAPC-COT. Type 2 LBT may be performed, if the CAPC value of the TB 431 is smaller than or equal to the CAPC-COT. Respective approaches will also be described respectively associated with Figs. 5-7 below.

[0053] Fig. 5 is a process flow diagram illustrating a process 500 for a responding UE to perform a MAC PDU multiplexing procedure for a shared COT transmission in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. If an initialing UE is selected as the destination UE and the COT is shared by the responding UE, the responding UE’s transmission shall have an equal  or smaller CAPC value than the CAPC-COT indicated in a shared COT information.

[0054] Accordingly, as shown by block 510, in some aspects, MAC SDUs having a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT are restricted from a LCP and subsequent MAC-PDU multiplexing. As shown by block 520, in some aspects, the responding UE performs Type 2 (Type 2A / 2B / 2C) listen before talk (LBT) before transmitting in a COT duration of the COT. Type 2A, 2B, or 2C LBT may be performed depending on the gap length between transmissions as specified below:

[0055] 1) Type 2A LBT is performed where time duration that are sensed to be idle before transmissions is deterministic. The channel needs to be idle for a sensing interval of 25 μs;

[0056] 2) Type 2B LBT is performed where time duration that are sensed to be idle before transmissions is deterministic. The channel needs to be idle equal to or longer than a sensing interval of 16 μs but less than 25 μs; and

[0057] 3) Type 2C LBT is performed where a UE does not sense the channel before transmission. Time gap to the previous transmission is less than 16 μs. A duration of the corresponding transmission is at most 584 μs.

[0058] The responding UE may be the responding UE 110-2 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The shared COT information may be the shared COT information 106 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The initialing UE may be the initialing UE 110-1 as described associated with other figures throughout the description.

[0059] Fig. 6 is a process flow diagram illustrating a process 600 for a responding UE to perform various listen before talk (LBT) procedures based on channel access priority class for a shared COT transmission in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. If the initialing UE is selected as the destination UE as shown by block 610, and the COT is shared by the responding UE, alternative to restricting SL LCP and MAC PDU multiplexing as described associated with Fig. 5, in some other aspects, different types of listen before talk (LBT) procedures or other sensing procedures are performed before transmitting in a COT duration of the COT. For example, as shown by block 620, Type 1 listen before talk (LBT) may be performed, if a CAPC value of a TB is greater than a CAPC-COT. As shown by block 630, Type 2 (Type 2A / 2B / 2C) listen before talk (LBT) may be performed, if a CAPC value of a TB is smaller than or equal to the CAPC-COT. Type 2 LBT is described above associated with Fig. 5. Type 1 LBT is performed where the responding UE determines an initial counter N which is randomly selected between 0 andCWp, where CWp is a contention window, andCWmin, p≤CWp≤CWmax, p. In some aspects, CWmin, p and CWmax, p are subject to CAPC. N can be decreased when channel is sensed to be idle for a certain period of time. Transmission can only  take place when N reaches 0. In some aspects, the process 600 applies to the case where the shared COT information indicating the CAPC-COT is transmitted to the responding UE after MAC PDU for the initialing UE has been generated. In that case, the MAC PDU cannot exclude the transmission of the responding UE with a CAPC value greater than the CAPC-COT. If the generated TB with CAPC value is greater than the CAPC-COT, Type 1 LBT is performed before the TB is transmitted. Otherwise, if the generated TB with CAPC value is smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT, Type 2 LBT is performed before the TB is transmitted..

[0060] Fig. 7 is a schematic diagram illustrating a process 700 for signaling between two UEs to perform sidelink communication over unlicensed bands including a COT inquiry procedure in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. If the initialing UE is selected as the destination UE, and the COT is shared by the responding UE, alternative to restricting SL LCP and SDU multiplexing as described associated with Fig. 5 and performing different types of LBT procedures as described associated with Fig. 6, in some further aspects, an additional handshake procedure can be introduced between the initialing UE and the responding UE. The initialing UE sends an inquiry message to the responding UE and only transmits shared COT information if receiving a positive response of the inquiry message from the responding UE.

[0061] At act 710, an inquiry message is received from the initialing UE. The inquiry message includes a CAPC-COT. In some further embodiments, the inquiry message may further include a COT duration of the COT. In some aspects, the inquiry message is unicast to the responding UE. In some alternative aspects, the inquiry message is groupcast to a plurality of candidate UEs. In some aspects, the inquiry message is transmitted via SCI. In other aspects, the inquiry message is transmitted via SL MAC CE.

[0062] At act 720, a response message is transmitted from the responding UE and / or another candidate UE to the initialing UE, if sidelink data for the initialing UE has higher or equal priority than the CAPC-COT. For example, the response message is sent if a MAC SDU or a MAC-CE for the initialing UE has a CAPC value smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT. The response message may be unicast to the initialing UE. In some aspects, the response message is transmitted via SCI. In other aspects, the response message is transmitted via SL MAC CE.

[0063] At act 210, if the response message is received, the initialing UE transmits shared COT information. The shared COT information may be transmitted from the initialing UE to only UEs with available data in logical channel whose CAPC value is smaller or equal to the CAPC-COT. The shared COT information may be transmitted within an SCI.

[0064] At act 220, a destination UE is selected based on the shared COT information. The SCI including the shared COT information may be decoded and sent from a physical layer to a  MAC layer, and the destination UE is selected by assessing availability and priority of MAC-CEs and / or logic channels for the initialing UE and / or other candidate UEs.

[0065] At act 230, MAC PDUs are generated.

[0066] At act 240, a resource is selected for shared COT transmission to the initialing UE. More details of resource selection examples will be discussed below associated with Fig. 8.

[0067] At act 250, the responding UE transmits sidelink data to the initialing UE over the shared COT.

[0068] Fig. 8 is a schematic diagram 800 illustrating resource selection for a shared COT transmission in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. As described above associated with the third indicator 1.3 of Fig. 1 and the block 240 of Fig. 2, after the destination UE is selected, a resource selection procedure is performed by a responding UE. In some aspects, if an initialing UE is selected as the destination and a COT is shared, the resource selection procedure is performed based on a COT duration of the COT. The COT duration may be included in shared COT information transmitted from the initialing UE. The responding UE may be the responding UE 110-2 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The initialing UE may be the initialing UE 110-1 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The shared COT information may be the shared COT information 106 as described associated with other figures throughout the description.

[0069] The resource selection for SL on unlicensed band may be a mode 2 procedure where an autonomous resource selection by a UE is performed based on a sensing procedure. The sensing takes place in a pre-configured resource pool. UEs can select resources for transmission and re-transmission if the resources are not in use by other UEs with higher priority traffic. A UE may occupy resources for an appropriate amount of time until a re-selection event is triggered. Figure 8 shows a sensing window 801, a selection window 802, and a trigger time n for resource allocation. There are two processing times (Tproc0 and Tproc1) before and after the trigger time n which refer to the required time in the physical and MAC layers for processing an inter-layer information exchange. In the mode 2 of resource allocation, the UE performs continuous sensing and when a resource selection event is triggered at the trigger time n (e.g. arrival of a transport block) in the UE, it considers its recent sensing results within the sensing window 801 (e.g., between 1100 ms and 100 ms) prior to the trigger time n for resource selection. The sensing results at the further bound n-T0 (e.g., 1100 ms) of the sensing window 801 are beneficial to identify the reserved resources by other UEs for periodic traffic, and the sensing results at the closer bound n-Tproc, 0 (e.g., 100 ms) of the sensing window 801 are particularly useful for non-periodic traffic. The selection of resources by a UE for its (re-) transmission is based on the sensing results and on the selection window 802. The selection window 802 is between n+ Tproc1 and n+T1. The maximum selection window 802 is bounded to the remaining packet delay budget (PDB) 803 of the TB.

[0070] In some aspects, the maximum selection window 802 is also bounded to a remaining COT duration 804 after transmission of the initialing UE. Thus, in some aspects, the selection window 802 is determined as a minimum of the PDB 803 and the remaining COT duration 804. As such, the resource selection window 802 is limited by a COT duration 804, such that the SL transmission for the initialing UE can be completed during the remaining COT duration 804.

[0071] SL measurements, such as SL-RSRP of either PSCCH or PSSCH, are performed to facilitate selecting appropriate resources and avoiding interference to any existing communication. For example, the UE excludes the resources where the measured RSRP is higher than a threshold and considers them as occupied if the traffic priority in the measured resources is higher than its traffic priority. Otherwise, the UE may select the occupied resources if it has higher priority traffic. In this way, higher priority traffic can occupy resources even if they have been already reserved by other UEs.

[0072] As part of a legacy selection, after the exclusion of reserved resources from the selection window, a UE selects resources randomly from the best set of the remaining resources, i.e. 20%of the best resources with a measured RSRP less than the (pre) configured threshold and based on the traffic priority. If the remaining resources after the exclusion procedure are less than 20%of the all resources in the selection window, then the UE relaxes the RSRP threshold (by 3dB) until it has at least 20% (or 35, 50%based on traffic priority) of all resources in the selection window for resource allocation. The final selection of resources is done in the MAC layer of a UE receiving a set of unoccupied resources from the physical layer. The selection of resources in the MAC is based on a random procedure. The selected resources are not periodic and a UE may reserve up to three resources adding an indication in SCI.

[0073] In some aspects, compared to random resource selection, earlier candidate resources in time domain are selected after a first COT transmission from the initialing UE, in order for timely sharing of the COT. In some aspects, the resource is selected from the earliest available identified candidate resources in time domain within the selection window 802. For example, R1, R2, R3 are the earliest available resources that may be selected over R4 and other available resources. In some aspects, the resource is randomly selected in frequency domain. For example, a resource may be selected randomly among R1, R2, and R3.

[0074] Shortly before the start of a transmission on a selected resource, a UE may re-evaluate its selection for late SCI receptions, after the sensing window 801, to be sure that the selected resource is still suitable for its transmission.

[0075] Fig. 9 is a schematic diagram illustrating timers for a SL Discontinuous Reception  Mode (DRX) accommodating a shared COT transmission in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. In some aspects, if an initialing UE is selected as the destination UE, and a COT is shared by a responding UE, an active duration of a sidelink DRX is extended to the end 904 of a COT duration of a COT. A DRXOn timer 901 (e.g., sl-drx-onDuration) may define a time length of a DRX On duration. Shared COT information may be received at T1 on SCI during the DRX On duration. In some aspects, a COT extension timer 902 (e.g., sl-drx-COTextension) is set to extend the active duration of the sidelink DRX to cover the COT duration. The COT extension timer 902 may start when receiving A / N feedback for a COT transmission from the initialing UE at T2, which may also referred to as a 1st COT transmission. The COT extension timer may stop at the end of COT duration. When this timer is on, the responding UE remains in 'ON state'which may extend an ON period into the period which may be an 'OFF'period otherwise. A DRX inactivity timer 903 is also defined to extend UE ON period into the period which may be 'OFF'period otherwise. In some aspects, the DRX inactivity timer 903 (e.g., sl-drx-Inactivity) may define a time length the responding UE should remain 'ON' after the reception of the SCI including the shared COT information, such that there is sufficient time to make decisions for regarding shared COT transmission. The DRX inactivity timer 903 may start when receiving the SCI including the shared COT information. The DRX inactivity timer 903 may be configured long enough to cover the receiving of the A / N feedback for the COT transmission from the initialing UE at T2.

[0076] The responding UE may be the responding UE 110-2 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The initialing UE may be the initialing UE 110-1 as described associated with other figures throughout the description. The shared COT information may be the shared COT information 106 as described associated with other figures throughout the description.

[0077] Figure 10 is a diagram of an example of components of a device 1000 according to one or more implementations described herein. The device 1000 or its components can also be or be included in a UE such as the initialing UE 110-1 as described throughout this disclosure. The device 1000 may be configured to initiate a COT and transmit a shared COT information to a responding device. The shared COT information includes priority information of the COT. The device 1000 then receives sidelink data in a COT duration of the COT from a responding device based on the priority information.

[0078] The device 1000 or its components can be or be included in a UE such as the responding UE 110-2 as described throughout this disclosure. The device 100 may be configured to prioritize an initialing device when selecting a destination device, based on a shared COT information received from the initialing device. In some aspects, priority of logic channels and / or  MAC-CEs for the initialing device is assessed and compared with CAPC-COT. CAPC values for other candidate devices may also be considered when selecting the destination device.

[0143] As used herein, the term “or” is intended to mean an inclusive “or” rather than an exclusive “or” . That is, unless specified otherwise, or clear from context, “X employs A or B” is intended to mean any of the natural inclusive permutations. That is, if X employs A; X employs B; or X employs both A and B, then “X employs A or B” is satisfied under any of the foregoing instances. In addition, the articles “a” and “an” as used in this application and the appended claims should generally be construed to mean “one or more” unless specified otherwise or clear from context to be directed to a singular form. Furthermore, to the extent that the terms “including” , “includes” , “having” , “has” , “with” , or variants thereof are used in either the detailed description and the claims, such terms are intended to be inclusive in a manner similar to the term “comprising. ” Additionally, in situations wherein one or more numbered items are discussed (e.g., a “first X” , a “second X” , etc. ) , in general the one or more numbered items can be distinct, or they can be the same, although in some situations the context may indicate that they are distinct or that they are the same.

[0144] It is well understood that the use of personally identifiable information should follow privacy policies and practices that are generally recognized as meeting or exceeding industry or governmental requirements for maintaining the privacy of users. In particular, personally identifiable information data should be managed and handled so as to minimize risks of unintentional or unauthorized access or use, and the nature of authorized use should be clearly indicated to users.
