FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a ramp, a handle for a ramp, a kit of parts and a method of manufacturing a ramp having such a handle.BACKGROUND
[0002] It is known to use ramps to facilitate access (e.g. for people in wheelchairs, people with mobility impairments, or people pushing pushchairs / prams) to areas obstructed by one or more obstacles. For example, it is known to use bridge ramps positioned over obstacles (e.g. door thresholds) to bridge the obstacle, where the two ground levels either side of the obstacle may be the same or different from one another. It is also known to use ramps to facilitate access (e.g. for people in wheelchairs, and / or for people with goods on trolleys) into the back of vehicles.
[0003] Some ramps include a handle, allowing a user to carry such ramps. This handle can be provided in the form of one or more apertures formed in a panel of the ramp. However, because ramp panels are often formed of metal (or other similar materials), such apertures can result in sharp edges that can provide discomfort to a user when carrying the ramp.
[0004] Moreover, outer edges of such ramp panels can cause damage (through abrading or scratching) to an obstacle, such as a doorway, when the ramp is positioned thereon.
[0005] The present disclosure has been realised in light of the above considerations.SUMMARY
[0006] In a first aspect, there is provided a ramp (e.g. a bridge ramp). The ramp may comprise a ramp panel having an edge. The ramp may further comprise handle. The handle may be located adjacent to the edge of the ramp panel. The handle may comprise a grip portion configured to be gripped by a user in use. The handle may comprise a protection portion positioned around at least a portion of the edge of the ramp panel (e.g. so as to be arranged to provide a barrier between the edge end the surrounding environment).
[0007] By providing a handle comprising both a grip portion and a protection portion positioned around an edge of the ramp panel, the handle can provide both protection to the hands of a user when they are carrying the ramp and to surroundings of the ramp when it is installed. This improves user safety and user experience with a single component (i.e. which simplifies assembly of the ramp).

The handle 100, 200 comprises two body portions 111, 112 that form the major surfaces of the handle 100, 200. The first body portion 111 and the second body portion 112 are symmetrical about a central plane containing the longitudinal axis L of the handle 100, 200 and the transverse axis T of the handle 100, 200. In other words, the first and second body portions 111, 112 have substantially the same size and shape and are positioned opposite to each other either side of the central plane.
[0059] The handle 100, 200 also comprises grip portion 120 that is configured to be gripped by the user in use. In other words, a user of the handle 100, 200 would grip (i.e. hold) the grip portion 120, for example with one or more fingers or with their hand. The handle 100, 200 comprises two grip portions 121, 122, in the form of a skirt between the body portions 111, 112 including a rounded transition surface adjacent to each body portion 111, 112. However, any number and configuration of grip portions 120 may be provided. The grip portions 121, 122 are configured to extend along the entirety of the perimeter of respective ramp apertures i.e. the perimeter of the ramp apertures will, when the handle 100, 200 is installed in the ramp, abut the grip portions 121, 122. This ensures that the portion of the ramp that could come into contact with the user's hands or fingers when the user is carrying the ramp is covered by the grip portions 121, 122 of the handle 100, 200.
[0060] The handle 100 further comprises a protection portion 130. In the illustrated embodiments, one protection portion 130 is provided. However, any number of protection portions 130 may be provided. The protection portion 130 is configured to be positioned around at least a portion of an edge of the ramp panel. In other words, when the handle 100, 200 is installed in a ramp, the protection portion 130 is configured to be positioned around at least a portion of an external edge of the ramp. The protection portion 130 comprises an edge surface 131 and an object engagement surface 132. The entirety of the edge surface 131 is configured to engage (e.g. abut) the edge of the ramp. In other words, the edge surface 131 is configured to abut an external edge of the ramp such that the object engagement surface 132 becomes the external surface of the portion of the external edge of the ramp around which the protection portion 130 is positioned. In other embodiments, at least a portion of the edge surface is configured to be arranged in proximity to, but not in engagement with, the edge of the ramp panel. In this manner, a portion of the edge of the ramp panel is obscured by the protection portion 130 but is not in direct contact with the protection portion 130. This can ensue prevention of damage to the surroundings of the ramp caused by the edge of the ramp panel, but without causing friction between the ramp panel and the handle along the portion of the edge of the ramp panel.

1. A ramp comprising: a ramp panel having an edge; and a handle located adjacent to the edge of the ramp panel, the handle comprising: a grip portion configured to be gripped by a user in use; and a protection portion positioned around at least a portion of the edge of the ramp.
2. The ramp of claim 1, wherein the handle comprises a handle aperture and the grip portion defines at least a portion of the handle aperture.
3. The ramp of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the ramp comprises a ramp aperture formed in the ramp panel and the grip portion extends along at least a portion of a perimeter of the ramp aperture.
4. The ramp of claim 3, wherein the grip portion extends along an entirety of the perimeter of the ramp aperture.
5. The ramp of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the protection portion comprises: an edge surface facing the edge of the ramp panel; and an object engagement surface opposed to the edge surface.
