Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a window or door frame assembly comprising a window or door frame formed from several profile sections of a window or door profile, with a main hollow chamber for receiving a reinforcing profile, wherein at least one support web is arranged in the main hollow chamber for supporting the reinforcing profile; and a reinforcing profile, constructed from several legs and received in the main hollow chamber, which is designed as a profile produced from a strip-shaped metal sheet by a bending process and is supported against the support web in the main hollow chamber. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for attaching a component to such a window or door frame assembly.

[0002] Such window or door frame assemblies and reinforcement elements for them are widely known in the prior art, for example from DE 20 2020 107 294 U1.

[0003] Reinforcing profiles, usually made of metal, are used in windows and doors made of hollow plastic profiles. These profiles are inserted into a hollow chamber located as centrally as possible within the profile to improve the structural properties of the windows or doors constructed from these profiles. To minimize the amount of material required for the reinforcing profile, it can be held in place within the hollow chamber by support webs. These support webs are ribs of the profile that point into the interior of a hollow chamber; they are not hollow chamber walls separating one hollow chamber from another. Such reinforcing profiles are typically produced by a bending process, especially by roll forming of a suitable sheet of metal. This process results in rounded corners on the resulting reinforcing profile. If a tensile load acts on the reinforcement profile, such as occurs when a fitting is attached to the window or door frame assembly via a screw through the reinforcement profile, the reinforcement profile can twist within the hollow chamber. This can cause pre-drilled dowel holes in the profile and the reinforcement profile to become misaligned due to the twisting, rendering them unusable for securing the reinforcement profile within the hollow chamber.

[0004] Against this background, the object of the present invention is to provide a window or door frame assembly that at least partially overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art. In particular, it is intended to prevent the reinforcing profile inserted into a hollow chamber from twisting within the hollow chamber when subjected to a tensile load.

[0005] According to the present invention, these and other problems are solved by a window or door frame assembly with the features of claim 1 or by a method with the features of claim 5. Preferred embodiments of the present invention are described in the dependent claims.

[0006] According to the present invention, it has been found that twisting of the reinforcement profile under tensile stress can be prevented by ensuring that a corner of the reinforcement profile where it abuts a support web is not rounded. If the corner is formed without rounding, the reinforcement profile rests directly against the support web in this area when a tensile stress occurs. Twisting, which would be encouraged by rounding the corner, is effectively prevented. According to the present invention, this is achieved by shaping the reinforcement profile, which is produced from a suitable sheet metal by means of a bending process, in particular roll forming, such that an unprocessed longitudinal edge of the original sheet metal is not present in at least one corner area of the reinforcement profile. One leg of the reinforcement profile ends straight in this corner area, meaning it is not bent around the corner. Therefore, there is no radius in this corner area; the leg of the reinforcement profile simply terminates straight. If an external component, such as a fitting, is attached to the outside of such a window or door frame assembly in such a way that a tensile stress acts on the reinforcement profile, twisting of the reinforcement profile within the hollow chamber is prevented.

[0007] Accordingly, the present invention comprises a window or door frame assembly, a window or door frame formed from several profile sections of a window or door profile with a main hollow chamber for receiving a reinforcing profile, wherein at least one support web for supporting the reinforcing profile is arranged in the main hollow chamber; and a reinforcing profile, constructed from several legs and received in the main hollow chamber, which is designed as a profile produced from a sheet metal by a bending process and is supported against the support web in the main hollow chamber, wherein the window or door frame assembly is further characterized according to the invention in that the reinforcing profile has a corner region in cross-section in which at least one longitudinal edge of the sheet metal from which the reinforcing profile is formed is exposed to the outside of the reinforcing profile, in particular not folded over.so that this corner area is not rounded, and this corner area of the reinforcing profile is supported against a support web. Furthermore, the present invention comprises a method for attaching a component to a window or door frame assembly, which includes a window or door frame formed from several profile sections of a window or door profile with a main hollow chamber for receiving a reinforcing profile, wherein at least one support web for supporting the reinforcing profile is arranged in the main hollow chamber; and a reinforcing profile received in the main hollow chamber, which is designed as a profile made from several legs and produced by a bending process from a strip-shaped metal sheet, and is supported against the support web in the main hollow chamber, the reinforcing profile having a corner area in cross-section in which at least one longitudinal edge of the metal sheet formed from the reinforcing profile is arranged.so that this corner area is not rounded, and this corner area of the reinforcing profile is supported against a support web, the method comprising the following steps of providing a window or door frame in the main cavity of which the reinforcing profile is received in at least one profile section; and of attaching the component to the window or door frame assembly by passing a fastener at least through an outer wall of the profile section and driving it into the reinforcing profile, such that the fastener pulls the reinforcing profile against the support web.

[0008] The reinforcing profile of the frame assembly according to the invention is produced from a strip-shaped metal sheet, in particular a strip-shaped steel sheet, by a bending process. A preferred bending process is roll forming or cold rolling of the reinforcing profiles. This is a continuous bending process in which strip material from sheet metal is gradually formed by a number of pairs of rollers to the desired final cross-section of the reinforcing profile.

[0009] With regard to the window or door frame assembly according to the invention, it may be preferred if both longitudinal edges of the metal sheet from which the reinforcement profile is formed are arranged in the non-rounded corner area of the reinforcement profile. In this way, the reinforcement profile used according to the invention can be easily manufactured as a closed profile.

[0010] It may also be preferable if the reinforcing profile is pulled against the support web by a fastener used to attach a component to the window or door frame assembly. By driving the fastener through at least one profile wall into a leg of the reinforcing profile, the reinforcing profile is pulled against the support web and rests precisely against it. Twisting of the reinforcing profile within the hollow chamber is prevented.

[0011] Additionally or alternatively, it can be helpful if the reinforcement profile has a substantially rectangular cross-section with three rounded corner areas. Such reinforcement profiles are particularly lightweight and require minimal tooling thanks to the bending process.

[0012] Preferably, the frame profiles of the window or door frame assembly according to the invention are sash frame profiles or frame profiles for windows or doors. In particular, they are each a hollow chamber profile comprising several hollow chambers, especially a plastic hollow chamber profile comprising several hollow chambers.

[0013] The window or door frame assembly according to the invention, as well as individual parts thereof, can also be manufactured line by line or layer by layer using a line-by-line or layer-by-layer manufacturing process (e.g., 3D printing). The profile of the window or door frame assembly is preferably produced by extrusion and cut to length into mullions, which are mitered and welded or joined together. The reinforcing profile of the frame assembly according to the invention is preferably produced by a bending process from a strip of metal, in particular a strip of steel, with roll forming or cold rolling of the reinforcing profiles being preferred.

[0014] Preferred embodiments of the present invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 a cross-sectional view of a window or door frame assembly with attached fitting element according to the state of the art; and Fig. 2 a cross-sectional view of a window or door frame assembly with a fitting element attached thereto according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0015] In Fig. 1 A window or door frame assembly 1 according to the prior art is shown in cross-sectional view using the example of a frame made of profile sections 2 of a plastic hollow chamber profile. The plastic hollow chamber profile is made of polyvinyl chloride. Centrally, the profile comprises a main hollow chamber 3 into which a reinforcing profile 4 is inserted. In the illustrated embodiment, the reinforcing profile 4 is a rectangular profile in which all four corners are rounded. The reinforcing profile 4 is produced by a bending process from a strip of metal, in particular a strip of steel, such that the former longitudinal edges of the steel converge in one leg of the reinforcing profile 4. Fig. 1 in the left leg of the reinforcement profile 4). In this way, the reinforcement profile 4 is designed as a closed rectangular profile with four rounded corners.

[0016] If a component 9, for example a fitting element or the like, is now attached to such a frame assembly 1, a fastening element 9, which is located in the Fig. 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the fastening screw is driven through the walls of profile section 2 into the reinforcing profile 4. This results in a tensile load being exerted on the reinforcing profile 4. As shown in Fig. 1 As can be seen in the upper right, the reinforcement profile does not lie flush against the support web 5. Rather, due to the rounded corners, the reinforcement profile twists within the main hollow chamber 3. This can cause the dowel holes previously drilled into profile section 2 and the reinforcement profile 4 to be offset from each other due to the twisting, and thus render them unusable for fastening the reinforcement profile within the hollow chamber.

[0017] In contrast, in Fig. 2 An embodiment of the window or door frame assembly 1 according to the invention, with a fitting element 10 attached thereto, is shown in a cross-sectional view. The frame is designed as a frame profile consisting of sections 2 of a hollow plastic profile. The profile is made of a thermoplastic polymer material, preferably polyvinyl chloride (PVC), in particular rigid PVC (PVC-U) or glass fiber reinforced PVC, to which additives such as stabilizers, plasticizers, pigments, and the like are added. It is composed of a plurality of hollow chambers, each of which is surrounded by webs of the profile 2. Centrally, the profile again comprises a main hollow chamber 3 in which a reinforcing profile 4, designed as a steel reinforcement, is received.

[0018] According to the present invention, the reinforcing profile 4 is not rounded in the corner region 11. In the corner region 11, a longitudinal edge 12 of the metal sheet from which the reinforcing profile 4 is formed is exposed on the outside of the reinforcing profile 4; the original metal sheet is not folded over in this corner region 11, i.e., one leg of the reinforcing profile ends straight in this corner region, i.e., it is not bent around the corner. Therefore, no radius is present in the reinforcing profile 3 in this corner region 11. If a component 10, for example a fitting element, is now attached to the outside of such a window or door frame assembly 1 according to the invention in such a way that a tensile stress acts on the reinforcing profile, twisting of the reinforcing profile in the hollow chamber is prevented.

[0019] If a component 9, for example a fitting element or the like, is to be attached to such a frame assembly 1, a fastening element 9, which is located in the Fig. 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the fastening screw is driven through the walls of profile section 2 into the reinforcing profile 4. This results in a tensile load being exerted on the reinforcing profile 4. As shown in Fig. 2 As can be seen in the upper right, the reinforcing element 3 is pulled against the support web 10 in the corner area 11 and rests directly against the support web 5. The reinforcing profile 4 cannot rotate within the hollow chamber 3. The relative positions of the dowel holes previously made in the profile section 2 and the reinforcing profile 4 remain unchanged, so that they can be used to fasten the reinforcing profile 4 within the hollow chamber 3.

[0020] The present invention has been explained in detail by way of example with reference to the embodiment shown in the figures. It is understood that the present invention is not limited to this embodiment, but that the scope of the present invention is defined in the claims.
