AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing distance measuring technologies using optical fibers lack the accuracy and simplicity needed for constructing detailed three-dimensional maps, particularly for applications like tracking and walking robots.

Method used

The method employs optical fibers integrated into robots to emit and receive distance measurement light, calculating distances based on the time difference between emission and reception, allowing for precise three-dimensional mapping.

Benefits of technology

This approach enhances measurement accuracy, enables the construction of detailed three-dimensional spaces, and facilitates the creation of digital maps that can be shared over the internet.

Abstract

To solve the problem of the difference between the time of light flying in space and the time transmitted in an optical fiber and the interference of metering photometry in the optical fiber.SOLUTION: In an optical method of distance measurement, a position where distance measurement light for receiving distance measurement is emitted is moved to a position where the distance measurement light is measured using an optical fiber and emitted from a tip of the optical fiber. The distance measurement light emitted at a measurement point is received at a measurement base point, or the distance measurement light emitted at the measurement base point is received at the measurement point, and a distance reached by the distance measurement light is calculated using the difference between a light emission time and a light reception time. The time of light travelling in a space is calculated by subtracting the time passed through the optical fiber from the arrival time. Alternatively, reflected light from the tip of the optical fiber to be measured or light incident from the tip of the optical fiber of emitted light is measured, and the distance of the optical fiber is subtracted to calculate a distance travelling in the space of the distance measurement light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14
