AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing tires face a trade-off between improved braking performance on wet roads and steering stability on dry roads, as increasing the cross-sectional area of chamfered portions in the tread to enhance wet performance reduces block rigidity and deteriorates steering stability.

Method used

A tire design with a tread portion featuring circumferential and widthwise grooves, land portions with chamfered ends recessed towards the tire's circumferential center, and specific contour lengths and angles to maintain rigidity while increasing groove cross-sectional area.

Benefits of technology

The design enhances steering stability on dry roads by maintaining land portion rigidity and improves braking performance on wet roads through increased drainage, without excessive rigidity reduction.

Abstract

To provide a tire making it possible to improve the steering stability behavior on a dry road surface and also improve the braking performance on a wet road surface.SOLUTION: A tire has in its tread plural circumferential direction grooves which extend in a tire circumferential direction, plural width direction grooves which extend in a tire width direction, and plural lands 20 segmented by the circumferential direction grooves and width direction grooves. An end of the land 20 at least on one side in the tire width direction has a chamfered part 21. The chamfered part 21 is dented in the middle in the tire width direction. The dent gets gradually shallower toward an end 21e in the tire circumferential direction of the chamfered part 21. A contour length measured along a contour line in the tire width direction of the chamfered part 21 becomes minimum at the end 21e in the tire circumferential direction of the chamfered part 21.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
